  • Judges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) have delivered an interim ruling in South Africa's genocide case against Israel, ordering Israel to prevent genocidal acts in Gaza.
Following the ruling, South African president Cyril Ramaphosa welcomed the court's decision and urged for an end to the conflict through a two-state solution.
PM Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would "continue to defend ourselves and our citizens while adhering to international law".
Under the court's decision, Israel must report to the court within a month on what it's doing to uphold the order.
A verdict on South Africa's allegation of genocide is not expected for years; Israel strongly denies the accusation, calling it "baseless"

That's not what the court said. By a 15 to 2 vote, it says Israel has one month to prevent ALL genocidal acts and punish the perpetrators. Then, submit a report to the court. It said Israel's efforts to dismiss the case are not valid and then allowed the genocide case to move forward. It was an overwhelming verdit by the human race.

Self defence is the right of every country. The claim of self defence by Israel should not be at the expense of innocent Palestinians. The death toll in Gaza, the wanton destruction of civilians facilities- homes, schools, hospitals and frustrating the supply of food and medicine to Gaza war victims remain morally unacceptable.
While the world is waiting eagerly for the outcome of the judgement, there are already those who believe the outcome will be tilted towards the political interest of the front line countries.
This is going to be a landmark judgement for the ICJ to prove its impartiality and integrity or loss global confidence on principles and morality.

I disagree with the commentator, the court never asserted the right of self-defense, since Israel in Gaza and the West bank is an occupation force. Israel can retaliate to armed resistance whether you agree with the latter or not, but not in self-defense. Neither did the court call for a ceasefire, since the conflict is between Israel and an armed group rather than the Palestinian authority with both Israeli civilians and to a much larger extent Palestinian civilians are caught in the middle.

large international organization, the United Nations can face criticisms of bias based on various factors, including geopolitical interests, influence from powerful member states, and differing interpretations of conflicts. However, it's important to note that the UN also plays a crucial role in promoting diplomacy, peacekeeping, and humanitarian efforts worldwide. Assessing its actions requires considering multiple perspectives and recognizing the complexity of global issues. While the ICJ strives to maintain objectivity and impartiality, it is not immune to criticism, and some argue that political factors can impact its decisions. Nevertheless, the court remains an important forum for the peaceful resolution of legal disputes between nations, contributing to the international rule of law.

UN is facing allegations of having employees that participated in the Oct 7th attack, it's already had to terminate a few a few months ago for their affiliations to the terror attack.
None of this really means a lot though, it's just a dog and pony show. In 2022, they ruled that Russia needed to stop its aggression in Ukraine and that clearly did not change Putin's course. It's all just for show.

As an Ethiopian 🇪🇹 I look at Middle Eastern people who has systematically oppressed women, Black/Africans, Jews and the LGBTQ community, categorically reject both democracy and peace deals, and been responsible for virtually all terrorism in the world. Moreover, several of the worlds richest nations is in the region, still not a single one is willing to help their own people. Yet, somehow, they are never at fault but always the victims. Now, make it make sense. As such, I don't feel the slightest bit of empathy for them because whatever they are going through, they have no one but themselves to blame.

If that's the case then why was the case not thrown out as requested by the Israeli legal team?
Do you even understand the merits of this case? The court was not tasked with proving whether Isreal is committing genocide or not, that is something the court will determine in the years to come as this case progresses. What the court had to determine was if there was a risk or plausible genocide and if so, issue provisional measures to end it. And that is exactly what the Court has done. Did you actually listen to the entire verdict? Israel was ordered to stop the incitement of genocide by its leaders, it was ordered not to kill any Palestinian or cause any physical harm or mental or emotional harm of Palestinians. It was also ordered ensure with immediate effect to ensure humanitarian aid, food water, and medical supplies to the Palestinians. Now the question is, how does Israel achieve all of the above without a ceasefire?? Isreal will have to ceasefire in order to comply to the provisions issued by this court to Israel. The court essentially ordered them to ceasefire.

Israel has the obligation towards International Humanitarian Law's values like Cautionary, humanitarian access, and so fort; Hamas is a grave violater of the IHL and must be dealt with appropriately, and Palestinian civilians are obliged to avoid involving themselves in the war or aid the terrorists- otherwise their civilian status will be in question.

Dude, listen to South Africa's presentation and also to the full ruling of the court from today. This is not self defense, Hamas is not guilty of destroying and damaging 70% of the houses in Gaza, nor are they guilty that fucking FOUR OUT OF FIVE PEOPLE in the whole world that face extreme hunger (famine level - IPC 5) live in Gaza. Of course Israel has the right to go after the murderers that committed Oct7, but in no way do they get a carte blanche to commit genocide, which they are clearly doing, by number of killed civilians (nearing 30k in 3 months, compared to 10k in Ukraine over two years), by the number of killed journalists (88 and counting compared to about 70 in Ukraine, or 63 in Vietnam), by blocking aid, by destroying civilian infrastructure like hospitals, universities, government buildings (on camera, mind you). The list goes on and on and on. So please go fuck yourself and get informed.

It's disheartening to see countries like South Africa laying blame on Israel for defending its people against acts of terror. Success for nations should be built on understanding and dialogue rather than myopic accusations. While advocating for peace and condemning violence, it's essential to recognize Israel's right to defend its citizens in the face of such threats. The situation's complexity demands a nuanced approach, focusing on diplomatic solutions for a lasting resolution.
