  • Judgement day at the International Court of Justice. The court has ruled the people of Gaza must be protected from genocidal acts carried out by Israel.
Richard Gizbert is joined by producer Tariq Nafi to discuss the impact this ruling could have on how the media discuss the war in Gaza.
Part 2: Mohammed el-Kurd on Palestinian resistance
Writer and journalist Mohammed el-Kurd in a video essay on Palestinian resistance and the Western media’s warped coverage of Palestine.
    Contributor:
Mohammed el-Kurd - Writer and journalist
Part 3: India: Temple opening or election campaign kickoff?
A long-anticipated - and deeply contentious - consecration of a Hindu temple in India this past week featured Prime Minister Narendra Modi front and centre.
The country's mainstream media enthusiastically played along, giving Modi valuable airtime in what is an election year.

A year ago if someone mentioned Jewish people or Israel I would immediately associate it with the atrocities of the holocaust. Now when I hear the name “Israel” I associate it with the atrocities it has committed against the Palestinians. What a difference a year makes.

This has been going on for a long time. Genocide has been committed for years, but like yourself, I think many have woken up to the atrocities committed upon Palestinians. I’m in Australia, the home of Murdoch/Sky News. Rupert Murdoch brainwashed this country a long time ago; hence, our refusal to give Aboriginal Australians a ‘’Voice’’. Our govt is still committing genocide here. It’s best to stick to independent media because mainstream media only sees $$$.

His clear, simple and concise speech of his home, his life, and that of others in Palestine...speaking truthfully and softly yet not dulling the words he uses...he changed my way of seeing things and led me to do more research. I know I'm not the only one he reached.

    • @planetfocus911
      @planetfocus911 Před 3 měsíci

Some would call apartheid in SAfrica, an almost desperate attempt of selfpreservation by, the then and still now, minority group of white South Africans, yet still condemn the system. I have heard people of all races say, were Nelson Mandela alive today, he would not vote for the ANC. The minority white sector (7.3% of society) is being excluded, discriminated against in many sectors of public life - a reverse kind of apartheid - not condusive to a healthy society. Eg: BEE: Black economic powerment.
South Africans suffer under the rule of the democratically elected African National Congress (ANC) with corruption and double standards being the norm. The people have for decades been subjected to empty promises and repetetive idealistic rhetoric, using the narrative of past endurance under the apartheid system as a means of cohesion and to influence the voting population.
The expected upliftment through business opportunities only resulted in benefiting a selected minority. Black economic enpowerment (BEE) is a system whereby black business is favoured by the state, in that tenders for state owned enterprises are granted to black - owned co's, excluding other races in South African society - exercising a control not on par with democratic law.

Mr. El-Kurd provides an astute critical discussion and warning regarding Zionism. I would add that Israeli Zionism has occurred as a result of a group of people who traded their Jewish faith for idol worship of a political state. Tragically, this idol worship has robed followers of their morality and connection to their fellow humans.
Coupled with arrogance and the belief that you are the chosen, this false worship has engendered invincibility and fuelled racism. The narrative of “a right to self defence” “at all costs”, is not only legally incorrect and incoherent/logically flawed, it is morally reprehensible and lethal.
Complicity takes many forms. We all have a responsibility to recognize and fight against flawed ideologies, racism, and lethal political systems that threaten and destroy our fellow humans.

The ICJ ruling doesn’t mean much for Israel, which was was entirely predictable.
The call to prevent indiscriminate killings of a group of people is nothing new, as it is already enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Geneva Conventions and the Genocide Convention. The current ICJ’s provisional measures regarding the genocide of Palestinians are couched in such loose and generic terms that they lend themselves to interpretation one way or the other. The court's failure to define the Israeli-Palestinian conflict within its historical context (occupation), and conflating the Hamas hostage situation with the human rights violations by the IDF, ensures that the court's advices will be dead in the water and easily rebuked.
The ICJ's politely asks Israel to "refrain from acts under the Genocide Convention," without implying that it was doing anything criminal up to that point. Quite stupidly, and inappropriately, it inserts an order for Hamas to release the hostages (some of whom are IDF personnel), as if to allow the defendant to use Hamas as its pretext to defy the orders, which is exactly what Israel and Western media pundits have done and will continue to do.
Hence, the court's rulings constitute a sort of poison pill that can be used by both sides to claim victory, whilst nothing gets done to stop the situation on the ground.

The litany of crimes and atrocities committed by Western powers, particularly the United States, unveils a stark and unsettling reality that challenges the very essence of the label "civilized society." The repeated transgressions, spanning from colonial brutality to modern interventions, strip away the veneer of moral superiority.
The United States, stands tainted by a legacy of genocide, slavery, and aggressive foreign policies. The invasion of Iraq on false pretenses, the destabilization of Libya and Syria, and unwavering support for Israel amid allegations of genocide in Palestine showcase a flagrant disregard for international norms and human rights.
The claim to moral authority crumbles when faced with the undeniable evidence of a nation that has repeatedly violated the principles it professes to champion. The U.S.'s continued presence in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and its control over the global financial system through dollar hegemony are relics of a bygone era that demand reevaluation.
In the quest for global justice and accountability, the international community must question the legitimacy of a nation that has lost its moral compass. Removing the United States from the UNSC and dismantling the dollar hegemony would be a crucial step toward recalibrating power dynamics in a way that reflects the diversity and aspirations of the global community.
It is time to challenge the notion of exceptionalism and demand accountability for the actions that have left scars on the collective human experience. The world must assert its commitment to a more equitable and just future, where nations are held accountable for their deeds, and power is distributed in a manner that ensures the voice of every nation is heard, not just those who have historically dominated the stage.

The ICJ ruling falls short on declaring a Humanitarian Ceasefire after nearly FOUR months of horrific, relentless, indiscriminate 'AI' bombings of lives and livelihoods in Gaza. By contrast, it took the ICJ less than one month to order the Russian Federation to suspend military operations in Ukraine upon invasion.
Judgement day, this ruling certainly isn't. ICJ's wishy-washy measures might pass the Security Council, but will sadly & surely fuel more IDF atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza & the Westbank.

If that's the strongest from the ICJ in condemning Israel then I have lost confidence them. Do they see what the rest of us see? . What a shame and hypocrisy.

Exactly, and the current temporary verdict will essentially come down to a ceasefire. Israel will ignore it, but allies will be reevaluating how much they still want to be associated with Israel. It will have a positive effect! Even though it will not be enough, but at least it's something. We should keep boycotting, soon enough Israel will no longer be able to support its economy
