    Great video! Most people that go for original issue sign up for and take a course first just to learn about the application process AFTER the fact. The best advice here is to prepare and submit your application FIRST and then turn your full attention to taking a course. Also experienced conslutants certainly make the application process smoother. Great job USCT!

    Thank you for posting this video! You provided a great roadmap to follow. I have been fumbling around different sites, trying to get a straight answer on what is required in order to obtain a OUPV 6-Pack license. Is there a requirement for a minimum number of days on the water logged as part of the application process? I thought I read somewhere that the Coast Guard expects an applicant to provide record of 365 days on the water. Maybe I misread something?

    Great Video! Quick question, would sea time from different countries be valid for the application? I sailed for many years in Brazil when I was 16 - 20 years old and was wondering if that would count for sea time. Cheers!

      You should be able to use sea service from all over the world. It might make the application a bit more challenging but you can get it! If you want a phenomenal consultant get a hold of Diamond Marine Services. diamondmarineservices.com/web/credentialconsulting/cc-detail

      It is possible that the USCG will put a daytime restriction on your license but it is still possible to get it. I highly recommend using an application consultant to help you through the process and make sure you get the best license for which you qualify.

    I am a Federal Employee. Do I still have to have the background check, I have a CPR/ First Aid Current credentials as required. I don't remember the last time I was selected for the Random Drug test. Can I use these credentials to skip some of these costs?

    • @uscaptainstraining
      @uscaptainstraining  Před rokem +1

      Hi Dwight,
      You would think so but the USCG is very picky when it comes to checking boxes. You need to apply for a TWIC card through TSA.
      As far as CPR & First Aid goes, it must be a USCG approved course. Some are and some are not.

    • @uscaptainstraining
      @uscaptainstraining  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, you can do the course and then the application. You have one year from the date of issuance on the USCG Approved Course Completion Certificate to use it or it expires. For some folks the application is more challenging than the course and they fail to use the Course Completion Certificate within the year.

    Is a Captains license needed for any vessel over 26', or just anything over 26' that is for commercial use?
    I've been out on the great lakes several times in my old 18' Bayliner. But I'm considering doing the Great loop, possibly in a 30'+ catamaran. Would I need the license for that, or just training?

    • @uscaptainstraining
      @uscaptainstraining  Před 2 měsíci +1

      You only need a Captain's License if you take paying passengers. You can take a boat around the Great Loop, no problem.

    Hello. I am from Turkey and currently in the USA. I have unlimited oceangoing watchkeeping officer license but I get this one from Turkish authorities after graduating from maritime faculty in Turkey. I have Portugal and Marshall Islands endorsements also and I worked near 2 years at the sea as a 2nd mate and 3rd mate. Can I have restricted master license here or what will be procedures to get in the USA? Should I be an US citizen?

    I don’t really get why you rounded anything. If anything, you rounded the OUPV differently than the Masters. Basically, there should be an even $200 difference between them. But at some point you rounded the OUPV higher than the Masters. Just don’t round. It isn’t necessary. Also, your pitch for why I should pay $300 additional for a consultant is that I don’t screw up the paperwork? Really? is that it?

      I was on a vessel this weekend speaking to the captain about taking a master class in person, he said most ppl over look it but it's wise to pay the "prep" fee so you don't wait months only to get it returned because it was missing something silly. I'm just starting the process, by no means an expert. But that's what a captain I trust told me.
      I'm sure not everyone needs one, but this instructor is saying the same thing I was told by a pro that had no monetary reason to convince me to

Or did you continue with the video but didn't really pay attention (cause you were lost) and surfed porn on your IPhone while this video played in the background?
