    Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"

      I always expected when CBS hired Colbert for the Late Show that it would be the Colbert Report as we know it just now nationally broadcasted.
      A shame CBS is trying to hold on to the tradition of The Late Show which is making Colbert look tame and lame.
      In my opinion there's no sense in holding on to that tradition when that Letterman audience has long since moved on.

      this is actually intellectual property 101. I remember going over this in copyright class almost two decades ago. My teacher was adamant about advising us to never create a character or company with our own name. Rookie error on Colbert's part. Worse yet he should have known better than to give himself that license. Even worse, is that colbert is no rookie and not stupid, so he did this knowing full well it would cause a stink. I bet he even brought it up with the DNC and they probably said something like "we'll handle it"

    • @florakelly170

      Something similar famously happened to Suzanne Somers (Blonde from Three's Company) when she got fired from the show for asking for a raise. Basically, the network (ABC) told her that she couldn't act like a dumb blonde because it made her seem too similar to her Chrissy character from the show. Since Suzanne Somers basically popularized the modern-day dumb blonde character through Chrissy, this was problematic for her career and became a topic of outrage at the time.

      The issue I see with the libertarians is that they want minimal government. You make government to small and you end up with de-regulation and no watchdogs to keep big oil and big banks in check. Their is a reason the GOP wants to deregulate and to remove those groups. It makes their special interest and the billionaires behind them all the more richer, and then we pay for it. Jill Stein would be a good option, but she is only on 23 of the ballots. So Hillary is the only real option vs Trump.

      The problem that exists is the 2 party system, which has most of the US believing there are only 2 "real" parties.
      And what you're saying is a fallacy. Nader voters voiced their true opinion. The people who fucked everyone over were the people who voted Bush just to spite the Democrats, and the people who voted Democrat to spite the GOP.
      The votes they do not win forces them to acknowledge the block of citizens who did not agree with either side, and take them into consideration.

      @BionicKing Před 7 lety

      ***** No, as I've already said, it's thanks to game theory. Do you think the two-party system just came about through sheer coincidence? It's mathematically shown to happen.
      Sure, this is an unpopular election cycle. Lets say the populous is incredible optimistic this year and blatantly ignores game theory. You get about 40% of the vote for a third party (keep in mind, some people actually like Clinton/Trump). All the would-be democrats vote for the green party, and the would-be republicans vote libertarian. Assuming that the democrat/republican split is 50/50 we get:
      30% Democrat, 30% Republican, 20% Green, 20% Libertarian. One of the major parties still wins. And keep in mind, this is with generous parameters.
      If you get 50% of the populous to vote third party, maybe, but even then, if that 50% is slightly democratic leaning, or slightly republican leaning then it guarantees the other party will win.
      No, the better solution would be a constitutional amendment implementing the ranked ballot system. That would actually fix the failure of social engineering that is the current system. But voting for a third party in this election is a stance of principle over practicality.

Reduced tuition, or reduced book costs (mine are outrageous in law school) would be nice, but free to me just sounds like a bunch of people who want to now go to college off my tax money, when I'm the one who worked my ass off to pay for my own education.

      He is great on many issues. But he doesn't support higher taxes on the wealthy. He also won't prioritize green energy, and would apparently prefer we stay dependent on fossil fuels, which will create environmental and foreign political tensions. These are two major issues any candidate needs to address before I would consider them.
      He is also supportive of FreeTrade...harmful to economy. His stance of keeping religion in the public sphere is also annoying to me.

    • @ZT1ST
      @ZT1ST Před 8 lety +5

      Who?
      More seriously - the problem with that is there's nowhere near enough traction within those other parties to not only win certain states, but to get enough votes to become President. Now if this was a congress/senate seat vote, that would mean they'd still would matter at the micro level, and hopefully the macro level, but the President race wouldn't care about them on a macro level.
      So they're worse votes than voting for one of the lesser of two evils - a vote for the other parties is essentially a vote for flipping a coin.

    • @thelinedrive
      @thelinedrive Před 8 lety +8

      People who know about ranking systems for single-winner elections should also know about rating systems, for example Approval and Score. Ranking systems are subject to Arrow's Impossibility Theorem. People who know about IRV (the usual (secret) specification of "Ranked-Choice Voting" buzzword for a single winner) should also know that IRV doesn't meet the balance constraint, and that some other systems do. Failure of balance by First Past the Post (FPtP) seems related to its tendency to split votes. www.equal.vote/theequalvote talks about the balance constraint, but that web site goes on to recommend a specific solution (STAR Voting), which is more complex than Approval and Score, which also meet the constraint. Even some ranking systems may meet it, although they are subject to the Arrow theorem.
