What an amazing inspirational woman. Thank you for having her tell her story.
She certainly is @marysuevoth2004
Thanks for posting the interview Mike. I had the good fortune of seeing Elspeth at a book signing, fabulous lady.
Glad you enjoyed it - Elspeth's an inspiration for sure
Hi Mike, What a great guest you had in Elspeth Beard, i love her approach to life and a very talented and down to earth person, the Quiet Achiever. We can certainly learn a lot from your interview with Elspeth Beard thats for sure. Loved that quote you said, the best journeys in life always begin in SCARYLAND, so true. Great interview Mike and great questions you asked her, Thanks for sharing her life's journey with us viewers. 😃
Glad you enjoyed it @seaeagles6025. There's another conversation about her photography coming up in a couple of weeks... 👍
@@MikeBrowne Thanks Mike looking forward to it. 🙂
So enjoyed this conversation with Elspeth. What an incredible lady and journey. I'm going to check out her book. It sounds like it will be a great read. Look forward to part 2. Thanks Mike.
Thanks @susanfirth2279. It's a great read...
Definitely an inspiration to be found here! Thank you for sharing her story.
My pleasure - she's great isn't she.
Just finished the book, absolutely brilliant and so inspiring. Lovely to watch this interview and follow up on what happened next
A great read ey? That's great to hear - thank you!
Thoroughly enjoyed this conversation you had with Elspeth. I really enjoyed listening to her book, as an audio book- what an incredible adventurer! Can't wait for part 2, to see the photos :-)
Glad you enjoyed it @maudmcclean6882
Fantastic interview Mike. Definitely buying the book. What a wonderful, inspiring lady. 😊😊😊😊
💯
That’s not a BBQ story, this a BBQ story . . . Reckon there’s quite a few stories in Elspeth’s life would easily hold the floor of conversation around a BBQ gathering. What an incredible woman. Ducking off into the introverted back ground, there’s a few people there.
Great video!
I’ve got both her books and I highly recomend them. Elspeth is a great inspiration.
Totally agree! 💯
What an amazing privilege to meet this wonderfull and legendary motorcycle girl!
💯
Fantastic Mike, what a wonderfully interesting person. Loved it, have to get the book now. Thank you. x Its given me the inspiration to make my next life step, I know what I'm doing and where I'm going but its a bit scary. This has made me feel more confident. It is the right step for me, I know that but its still daunting and lots of sacrifices having to be made. xx
@lisasimpson9343 That's wonderful. All the best journeys begin in sacryland. And when you go for it you can always look yourself in the eye and know you tried. Whilst 99% of the planet remain stuck in fear ... 🌟☘️
always the people you meet that you remember.
Very very true :-)
Elspeth's book is a great read - brilliant and enthralling storytelling...
Yes it is isn't - she's a really inspiring woman.
Mike ~ Thoroughly enjoyed the interview. Just finished "Lone Rider" the other night and needed to know where/how she was today. Inspired by her, I'm researching the IoM Classic TT/Manx GP in August. I'm planning on flying into London, borrowing a mate's classic bike (he offered) and riding a bit until taking the Liverpool ferry to Douglas and staying there for the week of qualifying, races, pubs, people and whatever awaits me. Toddler stuff compared to Elspeth's intrepid journey, but then I'm in my 7th decade! Bring on the "scary!"
Sounds amazing, what an adventure - age has nothing to do with an adventurous nature 😎
Laddies like these are the true heroes. She reminds me of another 'adventure ' Helen Lloyd who did similar but on a cycle.
👍 💯
Just finished reading the book here in the frozen north of Ontario Canada February 2024. A very well written and engaging book! What a journey!
Wonderful! Isn't just...
What a fascinating lady, getting out of your comfort zone and doing something extraordinary reminds me of a quite from David Bowie. "Go a little out of your depth, and when you don't feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you're just about in the right place to do something exciting.” great interview, Mike.
💯
That was wonderful
Glad you enjoyed it @heatherrose9559. Elspeth's great and always worth listening to. 2nd video with her will be out on a couple of weeks...
@@MikeBrowne just bought her book. Looking forward to reading it
Just finished her book. It was amazing. Highly recommend. Looking forward to part 2
Read her book a few years back and enjoyed it.
She is an inspiration isn't she...
Great Mike. Looking forward to this. Her book "Lone Rider" is one brilliant travel book. Thanks
🙏👍
Great video and Elspeth is a wonderful woman (and friend) but she is one of the first, not the first. It emerged in 2021 that a lady called Mary Sievier had done the journey from 1967-1976 on a BSA Bantam. Search 'Mary Motorcycle' to find out more.
Elspeth and Mary met for lunch and got on very well. Sadly Mary died at the end of 2023 but a podcast and film remain, and her Bantam is in the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu.
This takes nothing away from Elspeth's fabulous journey or her wonderful book, and as Mary always said, there might be someone who did it even earlier who we don't know about yet.
Lone Rider is a fabulous read
Wow I didn't know that. Been looking at Mary Motorcycle and will follow up. Are you by any chance Steph Jeavons or connected to her @sauljeavons9934 ...??
@@MikeBrowne No, Saul is from a different Jeavons clan altogether, no relation; but he and Steph do know each other. She launched her RTW book, Home By Seven, at the 2020 Overland Event which Saul is involved with.
Great conversation. You appeared to me as very skillful interviewer! Thank you for all teaching and inspirational content that you make.
Thank you @cossack-ukki Glad you enjoyed it! There's a second conversation scheduled in a couple weeks where she talks about photography and how she made every frame count because there was so little film available in many countries. Make sure you're signed up to my newsletter so you don't miss it at link below... MB

Most enjoyable interview, fascinating person, great inspiration. Definitely getting the book😊😊
That's great to hear! 📚
Great interview. Inspirational person. 🙏🏽
Isn't she just - thank you.
Great video Thank you.
You're very welcome
Very enjoyable Mike.
🙏😊
I remember seeing Elspeth on Grand Designs and thinking she left her client in the lurch for a biking holiday?! This conversation has completely turned me around. There’s more to us than we initially see or expect.
@mqab "There’s more to us than we initially see or expect" - always...
That's pretty funny.... Thanks for posting!
The irony is that the RTW trip she did in 2002, when the Grand Designs episode was filmed, wasn't even on a bike - she was the back-up driver in a series of trucks, for 22 motorcyclists. And it couldn't have been further from being a holiday!
That was enjoyable. Interesting person
🙏😊
not what i was expecting - you got a future as a talkshow host if you ever give up the photograpgy. but.....very inspiring and a great motivational interview.
Thank you!!
A great interview with a great lady.
Thank you - we both apprieciate you comment 🙏😊
@@MikeBrowne I’ve ordered the books.
The paper back is a great read and the photo book arrived today (my birthday...great present to my self) and is a fantastic visual record and accompaniment to the paperback with a lot more besides.
I'm a grown man and I wish I was as calm and cool as she is.
For sure... me too!!!
Shes as cool as ice too !!
Isn't she just.
My fear to do a trip like that, or even 1/10 of hers for that matter, is that I somehow would have enough of it at any given time, and not be able to get home right away... May seem strange but that´s what´s holding me back I think.
We all have times when we want to go back, but feelings of fulfillment / accomplishment come when we push through them and keep going to the end...
Why is the tower grounds looking unkept?
The 'grounds' as you call them, are only the size of a garden, but Elspeth is the only person who maintains it and she's happy to let her garden grow for several months of the year because she has better things to do than mow her lawn every weekend!
Brilliant Mike - you make a wonderful interviewer someone should take note and give you a regular TV show - but you're probably too good ----sigh -----
Hah! That would be nice wouldn't it!
Gosh that was bloody good!
Ha, don't sound so surprised! But thank you 🙏🙏🙏
Great interview, thanks, finished her book last year, brilliant, some people dont realise the challenges she faced, but it was a different world .
