The biggest take away from Rebirth selling so poorly is it being part 2. If you didn’t play part 1 you’re not picking up part 2. If you didn’t like part 1 you’re not picking up part 2. Do you own a PS5 for a part 1 that came out on PS4? There’s too many way people can get filtered out in a trilogy.
When part 3 comes out I wouldn’t be surprised if sales explode. Plus getting all 3 parts in one box is what anyone who wants this physically is waiting for.
Not for the likely $240 they will try to sell the complete set for lmao. Price is also a filter and no one game is worth that.
Why would sales for part 3 explode after all u just said?
@@holy9781 He is counting on the people who are holding out for the complete trilogy suddenly buying it for full price... but the reality is if they can hold out for YEARS for the complete set they can hold out for more years for a major sale. Those people will not spend more than $70 for all 3.
He also forgot that most people are smart enough to NOT play FF any more. Let's be real.
I'm one of those people. I don't even have a Playstation. I'm hoping for part 3 they also release a special box set featuring all three games. And... maybe I'll finally bite the bullet and get a whole Playstation just for that. Hopefully I'll be through my Switch backlog by then. lol
$29.99, none of that sixty-dollar multi-player only bullshit
*proceeds to be sixty-dollar multi-player only bullshit
@@pizzaw0lf489 No it definitely launched for 30$, but the marketing was so bad tons of people didn't even know it was out. I remember I actually wanted to play the demo but missed the timeline and by the time I remember the game was scheduled to be taken down lol
If games were 30$ I'd be buying games alot more often. Paying $70 for half baked garbage doesn't feel great
The unfortunate reality of publicly traded companies is that number must always go up the circumstances causing it to not go up don't matter. Imo gaming companies should avoid becoming publicly traded.
And the entire industry being "mainstream" suffers for it
Aye, they become beholden to shareholders rather than the fans. Also allows for outside influence, i.e. Tencent-Blackrock-Vanguard.
agreed, tho that'd run into the problem of funding for hi-dev-cost games like big open world games.
becoming publicly traded is the first step in the enshittening
It starts as an easy way to acquire funding to keep going, then once the shareholders take root, its an inevitable drop in quality and creativity for regular releases. im ok with the downfall of most of these companies going the way of the dodo
When is the last time SQUENIX said sales are up to expectations ? Did they ever said it ? LOL
When they had to stop selling final fantasy 14 because too many people where buying it and they could not handle that many people getting in
The one I really remember is auto path traveler one. They were surprised at that game sold over a million copies in less than a week. It was even a little bit more surprising because that game was an exclusive for the switch back then.
How dare you! They were happy once in the 80's and twice in the 90's.
Ikr? Ungrateful f^*%s
SMRPG.
There are three main reasons why FF VII REBIRTH underperformed compared to REMAKE:
1. PS5 install base is smaller than PS4 was when REMAKE launched.
2. Since it is the second part in a trilogy, purchases by newcomers are lower because it is inherently less aproachable. REMAKE is basically required reading material.
3. Fans that were burned by REMAKE's direction and realized after playing that they didn't like what Square Enix was doing.
The PS5 base is smaller yet games are selling record numbers on PlayStation 5. Make it make sense.
1) Say “install base” , “install size” had me thinking you meant the size of the games themselves in gigabytes 😂
@@RubyRose23328 What other games are selling on the platform is not really relevant in this case.
@@pilau1749 you're right. My bad 😅
Yes for 2 and 3 but 1 I dont think it really changes much with a larger install base.
The potential audience is really the people who bought the remake
FF16 sold 3mil in a week
FF7 Remake sold 3 mil in 3 days with over double the userbase
Spiderman 2 sold 5mil in 10 days and a few months ago, 10mil copies
FF7 just doesnt have the hype to be an exclusive as it used to
FF7 Rebirth being a direct sequel subtly gives off the signal you'd have to play FF7 Remake to know what's happening. This is why direct sequels are rarely made
It's even worse than that. You need to play FF7 Remake, but also a lot of the material in both depends on you already knowing what happened in the original, so you've got at least two games (one of which is quite old and hasn't aged well, unless you're wearing nostalgia goggles) as homework, plus some extra credit spinoffs if you care to actually understand Zack.
Loved FF7 Rebirth and it's my Game of The Year, but the disappointing sales certainly aren't surprising to me. Like you pointed out, the FF Series has been struggling sales wise, plus I feel like sequels always sell worse than the first entry, look at Tears of The Kingdom selling worse than BOTW while having a much larger install size.
I actually liked Remake better, but thats because Midgar is such an amazing setting. Rebirth was great, but the world felt kinda empty to me. So much of each area was completely skippable, even doing the notice board quests. I would have liked the story to kinda take you through most of the map and allow you to stumble across things because they're interesting.
Tests is almost at parity work Botw and it's icky been out a year. That's not worse, that's a better selling game, tears will sell more than botw did in the same amount of time.
@@nightshadesaladI mean, it kind of did that. The point is that for side stuff you travel the world and find interesting stuff, and story is set around specific locations IN the world (mythril mines, Junon, Gold saucer, etc)
From other sources they sold 3 million collectors edition.. but obviously it would sell way less physical copies than remake.... physical copies sales have plummeted in the last 4 years.. and non of these trackers track digital sales 🤷♂️
I mean, Breath of the Wild has sold over 31 million units since its release back in 2017, but according to Nintendo Tears of the Kingdom has sold over 20 million copies in less than a year. Yes, TokT hasn't surpassed BotW, but I wouldn't say it's selling worse, especially if the game will keep selling in the years that come.
Speaking of Zelda and Final Fantasy, while not in the same game genre, many people postioned Final Fantasy against The Legend of Zelda since they were the most prestigious killer-apps for Sony and Nintendo respectively, but Final Fantasy used to sell more than Zelda up until the release of Breath of the Wild. Is there a way Square-Enix can make a Final Fantasy game that manages to sell over 20 million copies in less than a year in a single console?
People need to realize 2020 COVID time was a very unique time for the world.
Comparing ANY stats to that time vs now will have very different results. Be it with game sales, sports, gas usage, movies, TV shows, streaming, etc.
No one should expect those kinds of statistics again, until another pandemic happens after a long period of the world being "normal".
No, company will realize it until they have no employees left, or have entered bankruptcy.
Here's a thought, Square: If you guys want higher sales, don't make Final Fantasy be exclusive to Playstation. We are not in the PS1 era anymore and by the time they release on PC, the hype is already long gone.
Yeah exclusives suck lol
@@jameswalterthethirdwould you rather a monopoly?
@@lemonlime8949What are you talking about?
Exclusivity has nothing to do with why its failing. FF7 R isnt FF7 thats why its failing. If consoles didnt exist most of the games you love wouldnt exist. Exclusives is what makes consoles possible.
@@lemonlime8949 what monopoly?
I want Rebirth to sell exceptionally well, but I'm not surprised that it's selling far less than Remake. Remake's release was a perfect storm. People stuck at home to play the game, and fans were waiting many years to experience it. A huge chunk of old fans were turned off when the story deviations were discovered so have not returned for Rebirth, and although I think Remake is a fantastic place for newcomers, the main marketing focus has been directed at fans of the original. Fingers crossed Rebirth gets a bump in sales
I think another problem with Rebirth is it's advertised as Part 2 of a trilogy.
So a lot of people will want to beat Remake before getting Rebirth.
And others might want to wait for the entire trilogy to be out before beginning.
Exactly since they announced they're making a trilogy out of FF7 I made the decision to wait for all 3 games to come out
Yup for the most part I'm waiting until the final remaster of all three on PS6.
@@DeathcoreManiac I cannot get behind this train of thought. It's going to be a daunting 200+ hr Trilogy. I'd much rather play each part as they come out so I don't get burnt out.
@tloz171nfs If they were comming out every 1-2 years sure. But at 6+ years between each installment I'm going to forget a lot of stuff inbetween each part. If I need to replay the games anyway to remember what happened I may as well wait for them to be all out first
@@tloz171nfs I mean every time a sequel to a game I loved comes out I just feel the need to replay the previous installments before playing the new one because I usually can barely remember what happened in prior games lol, also 200 hours isn't a big deal if the game(s) is/are good
My main reason for not buying Rebirth is that I don't have time to play it. I bought remake for half off, and I still haven't gotten around to playing it.
Remember when Squeenix used to be Square Soft and mattered a lot more?
Pepperidge Farms Remembers...
The earliest days of S-E were golden. But that era is over. There's still some recent gold/silver quality games that have come out in the last 6 years... But they are the exception not the rule.
For example: Dragon Quest XI, may be the final gold quality DQ, as the complete change in tone to appeal to western audiences doesn't bode well for the future. The DQ team used to be allowed to just do their own thing, but there are other problems.
Highway Star remake, we'll be in a multiverse.
Remake & Rebirth are straight up SquareSOFT games, not Square Enix games.
@@TrevorNickellthis... it feels as if they're back. Some of the devs technically even are, despite their advanced age.
@@Mac_Omegaly I'm in fear of the next Dragon Quest as well. If they do what I think, it will be horrifying and depressing, the reaction FFVII would have gotten if it wasn't milked to death over a decade.
I think a pc port would give Final Fantasy a decent bump in sales. But I also believe that this is just a natural consequence of sequels. You're naturally going to see drop off in interest as the series goes on. Especially for single narratives spanning multiple games (and console generations).
Not always, but if the story isn't good, it won't. This one wasn't , so it sold less. There is a reason beyond sequels not doing as well, when a number have. You have to look at a general audience sales from those invested, too. A lot will jump in just because a new IP, not because they care about what the game is about.
With Stellar Blade coming out on the 26th, I love how a studio like Shift Up is using what they learned from other action games as the years went by. A solid party system, balanced difficulty, and INSANELY good music?! Yes please!
You talk as if Stellar Blade is some new phenomenal gaming experience.
While I agree it is insanely intuitive, what I have experienced so far in Stellar Blade is what I have already played and immensely enjoyed with Lies of P.
Lies of P also boasts an unreal soundtrack and incredible Souls like precision gameplay. Stellar Blade isn’t reinventing the wheel, mate.

@@NeloBladeOfRanni I don't just mean having a great story/lore, I mean a profound story that makes you think philosophically about the world, about life...
Oh no the game on the console with the smaller install base didn’t sell as well as the game that launched on a console with 100+ million units!
I will say though, as much as I’ve enjoyed the new final fantasies, I think the series has an issue with pulling in newer fans. Other JRPG franchises consistently get waves of new players with new entries, but I don’t think FF is due to its lack of identity. Anything can be final fantasy. The series needs to choose how it wants to evolve and stay the course, or else we’ll reach a point where you can just slap the name final fantasy on anything
I agree they're especially haveing a hard time reaching younger gamers. I've never heard a younger zoomer or gen alpha kid talk about final fantasy as anything other than a game their older sibling or parents play. It hasn't grabbed their imaginations the way 7 and 10 did for us back in the late 90s early 00s what jrpgs have been doing that are Persona, Xenoblade and Fire Emblem and that's what soon people are going to think of when they hear the words JRPG
@@demi-fiendoftime3825 that would be a terrible world
FF14 is the glowing exception in that that game is definitely in the "zeitgeist" and very popular even among young players. The thought was to put the guy in charge of that, in charge of the next game, and get the zeitgeist on a traditional offline mainline game. But then for shits and giggles they throw Devil May Cry onto it because yeah that's what current gamers want?
FF15 was quite a bit more popular in the zeitgeist than FF16. It was less polished but it was also open-world and had a new and unique combat system.
@@demi-fiendoftime3825 I guess that fits me to. I have played several final fantasy games and enjoyed some of them well enough, and enjoyed remake. But it's just not a beloved franchise to me that I have to go all out to play the games(probably because I didn't grow up with a PlayStation 1 when final fantasy was this huge deal). And just like you said I am a much bigger fan of the other ip's you mentioned.
@@demi-fiendoftime3825 Final Fantasy has never really had the same magic since Hironobu Sakaguchi left right after FF10. No knock against FFXIV as an MMO, and I don't mind FF15 or 16, but it's really been obvious that they don't have the same creative vision or a coherent "feel" for the franchise anymore.
So, while it is a generational thing, it's not really the younger generation's fault. Sure, the graphics have gotten better and there's voice acting now, but if your earliest recollection of these games is the FFXIII trilogy, why in the world would you prefer them over Persona 5?
the 3th entry is gonna sell even less, the original game was around 40 hrs to finish, now you need to play over 200 hrs for the full history thats is not even the same as the original is getting tiring not all the people have this much time to finis 1 game
Your numbers are a little inflated. Both games story wise are 40 hours with just focusing on the story. Remake has about the same number of hours for bonus content, but Rebirth has at least 5x the extra content outside the story. So if you are just concerned with the story, you'd hit 120 hours and across 3 games, that's still good value not counting the extra content.
Anyone else dock their systems so much they sometimes forget they can undock them?
I've had my Switch for about 5 years now and it has never been turned on even once when undocked. Lol
Just the other day I laughed a little at myself because I wanted to check something and thought "Wish I could do that without going to the trouble of turning on the TV and waiting for the system to boot up"
Then I remembered I could *pick the Switch up* and it "boots up" almost instantly. The lagginess of "smart" TVs and the boot time of the PS4 really scarred me.
I got my system docked for a year and it killed the dock.
Mine probably been undocked less than 10 times
I think people are overlooking the fact that FF7 Rebirth isnt cross generational and that alone majorly impacts potential sales. FF7 Remake released to a much larger install base to sell to
I feel like with the FF7 Remake, they should have just picked ONE (not BOTH) of the following directions:
- Making FF7 into a trilogy.
- Making FF7 into a weird, pseudo-meta multiverse narrative.
Between these two, I think most people would have been happier with just the trilogy direction. Both these directions are a big leap to take, and I think it's showing to be mistake that they chose to follow both these directions, at least money-wise. We'll have to wait for the dust to clear after FF7 Part 3 comes out on PC I guess.
It wouldn’t be underselling if square Enix didn’t split the game into 3 goddamn parts, in order to get into rebirth you gotta play the first part but people were not feeling the first part direction wise so there’s that, I wonder what the numbers will be when the last part comes out.
I'd rather have 3 great games the 1 game anyday.
What people weren't feeling the direction? Looks like the game was very well received. No one I know has said anything bad about it.
You can complain about rebirth not selling enough, but at the end of the day the game is incredible. I’d much rather a completely amazing game release and go under the radar and not sell enough, than a garbage game release and sell a bunch ie starcraft.
Not if you want them to keep making them
New fans don't have nostalgia for FF7 and old fans don't have the same time to game that they used to. I think it's as simple as that.
I'm still holding hope for a port or remaster of pokemon Colosseum and xd gale of darkness
I enjoyed those games. Unlike most Pokemon games those actually had some challenge to it. Of course part of that was just because of the actual small number of Pokemon you could actually catch. I think it was around 50 in both games.
hahaha, funny good joke.
I'm waiting for a remake of Crystal and Emerald. Remember they already made the assets for the remakes of Gold/Silver and Sapphire/Ruby
Its the same characters, same sprites, some new stuff but 95% of both games are already done. Even the text can be copy pasted from the previous games. Its not like the games are voice acted
@@imo098765 Gamefreak would likely not be interested in delivering fantastic games from the past. As they are only interested in money and bringing high end remakes into the market would by comparison shame their last three games, with their nasty expensive DLC.

As for the sales thats really sad to hear knowing how big rebirth is compared to remake but not releasing it for PC and Xbox I do believe it impacts the sales greatly.
Remake isn't on Xbox and PC release was a year later.

Shame on rebirth sales if true. Rebirth is probably one of the best games I’ve played. They improved all the components of remake that carry over, the scale is wild, and the story continuation plus VA work is incredible.
Iron Man will only interest me if it actually releases as a single-player game.

There's not a lot of good companies out there, or at least once big enough to make AAA games.
to me a factor why the next FF7 remake game is not doing so well also coincides with the fact that a lot of people are struggling especially in America a $70 game has become a bigger investment, especially with rent prices and grocery prices that are continuing to skyrocket people are having to decide between eating and paying a bill a tertiary expenditure like gaming isn't factoring in as much as it did pre-pandemic or during

Square Enix: *surprised Pikachu face*
It is weird that SE hasn’t given an official sales number for FF7 Rebirth. SE was quick to give a “This game sold this much this quickly!” post for 16 the week after it released, but it’s over a month out from Rebirth’s release and they haven’t said anything? That, to me, is the bigger hint that sales are not to expectation.
I think many people see the title “Rebirth” and think it’s just another term for “Remake”.
Ngl the titles are kinda wack. I don’t know if part 2 would be better but I’m still called FF7 Rebirth FF7 Remake part 2 to my friends who aren’t fans of the game.
I said people would see the Final Fantasy VII remake as the quest for more money and people now don’t want to be a part of that.
There's just no way you can have Square Enix AAA graphics and expect a Squaresoft story in one package. People can say that Remake didnt offer a lot of value compared to the original, but they just want another full game and that's fine. I think they missed the point of Remake. The point of Remake was to tell a fuller story that the original simply couldn't, and Remake may not have fully succeeded with that, but it did succeed.
I just think its silly that people want less. That they'd settle for a 1997 experience that wouldn't have much to offer other than a safe trip they've already been through before. I wouldn't mind paying more for a trip down memory lane if the lane has more to offer before the end.
No wonder they are under-performing on sales, the era of exclusives driving console sales is over.
Except that it's not, according to NIntendo, which is the company that's in the lead.
@@G360LIVE Nintendo is the only company that keeps getting away with everything, cuz Nintendo.
Right now for example, Sony makes a State of Play, they announce who knows how many games, turn's out 75% of those game are in fact multiplatform, and the 25% left are temporal exclusives, why the hell would i buy a PS5 if literally all the games i'm interested in the sony ecosystem are in fact PS4 exclusives like Bloodborne or Gravity Rush? I already have a PC for everything else, if i have to wait so be it.
And nintendo is honestly getting in the same sack as sony, at this point i don't give a fuck about them, i refuse to support a company that simply undermines user experience time and time again, i will simply pirate and emulate every single exclusive i'm interested and that's it, i payed for my Nintendo Switch, it broke down after 2 years, turns out the repair is as expensive as buying a new one, and i don't even get to keep my data which is installed on a completely independent module from the main board, it's beyond retarded.
I can't wait for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth to be exclusive to PS5 for a year, then on that one year mark they release a sizable DLC for it so that stays exclusive for another six months, then they release it on the Epic Games Store and that stays exclusive for another year, then it releases on Steam six months later, and then I wait another year until I can pick it up for around $50 or less! So exciting!
4 years to pick up a game on a reasonable platform at a reasonable price. Thank you exclusivity.
Oh gosh, please not another Epic Store exclusive.
Square is so simple if they get disappointed in sales just don’t lock the game day one on Playstation, make it available in every possible platform day one, PC, Xbox, Cloud and even Nintendo. Releasing the game on PC but a year after is just dumb because you kill the potential buyers on day one and the inertia of hype, so after a year 80% moved on and now are waiting for a new game or are not interested anymore. Not saying exclusives shouldn’t exist but not every game is strong enough to be an exclusive and sell like crazy, like Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and Animal Crossing does.
The thing with ff7 rebirth is I'm pretty sure remake shows that their gonna change the story up quite a bit and the fact it's not really a retelling of the story but more a type of sequel, Which what most ff7 fans didn't want. With all that my guess is that their not jumping at the heel to buy and play the game when it launche, also it being an exclusive is also a factor. But mostly is the people who would/will play it are more than happy to wait for it to come to other platforms and for it to go on sale.
Re: FF7 rebirth sales - FF7 Remake had a PS4 release. What was the PS4 install base compared to PS5 current install base?
Would like too see Bethesda port more titles too the Switch including Fallout 4 if possible
I think the Rebirth situation is due in part of it being a middle installment in 3-part trilogy. We've already seen what REMAKE was doing, and most didn't care for it. REBIRTH suffers from being more of the same and they packed in a little too much.
We just wanted a faithful remake of FF7 but we're getting stretched out meandering and some changes to the core story which are concerning to say the least.
Where in the hell did Square say FF9 was going to be remade? 10:49 There's been fan content and that's it.
Square-Enix hasn't said anything about a Final Fantasy IX Remake, but I think some leakers found information about a potential remake on a Nvidia data leak from a few years ago

Nintendo seemingly does this effortlessly on Switch, I do hope that the audience moves to switch 2 successfully, because that is a platform that should be able to get any 3rd party on it, including GTA6
As someone from Gen Z, I have never heard anyone from my generation speak about Final Fantasy other than me, and only FF7. Some people don't really understand that you don't need to play all the numbered entries for the new one, and with a title that sounds story based, I get the confusion. Maybe they can get more collaborations with western developers? Japan has probably got it covered
The problem is that the number in the title is a franchise trademark at this point. It's a sort of badge of honor and you lose a lot of the prestige if you toss that out. It's sort of the same problem with Harley-Davidson. The actual identity and prestige of your brand is tied to your legacy customers that actually directly steps in the way of attracting new ones.
Personally haven’t met a gen z that was into final fantasy. It’s usually Pokémon or persona if they play RPG’s at all. That generation seems to be into battle royale, multiplayer, mobas, and building type games.
Not just Gen Z, I'm a older millenial and some friends from my same age gruop haven't played a Final Fantasy game, despite having PlayStations. One of my friends even asked me all of the games are connected, due to the numerals, and I had to explain him that every game has its own story and that each of them take place in a separate continuity.
To be fair, there's also the issue that we're from Latin America, and the Final Fantasy series has never been very popular, since the games were never translated until recently, so people don't have the same nostalgia as people from the U.S. and Europe have.
Square-Enix has tried to expand to the Latinamerican market though, FFXVI was the first game in the series dubbed into Neutral Spanish, whith a voice cast composed of very talented Mexican VAs, but the game didn't make that big of an impact. FFVII Remake/Rebirth weren't dubbed if anyone asks
@@pablocasas5906 That's really cool. Respect to the FF16 team for dubbing it in something besides just English/Japanese.
@@metaldiceman yeah, I think XVI is also the first Final Fantasy to be dubbed into Italian. It also has German and French dubs, but I think VII Remake were dubbed into those languages first. I'm actually kind of surprised that Square-Enix decided to dub XVI into Latin American Spanish, since the FF series has never been that popular here, but in Spain it is much more popular, you'd think they'd dubbed it into European Spanish, especially since the game was recorded in British English. But I suppose that S-E thought the Latin American market had more potential
I think Rebirth is absolutely fantastic! Super great combat mechanics, story changes that are intriguing, and lots to do. I am very much enjoying my time with it.
I love how my break at work falls in line with me catching this show in the first 5 mins almost everyday 😂
Other than the fact more people have ps4 than ps5. I believe people bought FF7 remake thinking it was the whole game. Then realized it was the first disc. Same people were not fooled twice.
Not even the first disc. Combination of Remake+Rebirth is the first disc.
🙄The fact that they turned midgar from ~8 hours to 40+ is awesome. So much more character development and world building. Playing through Remake was like actually experiencing what 8 year old me remembers the original being.
@@nightshadesalad Glad that you enjoyed the game. I skipped out on it but for the most part it’s cool to like what you like.
@@nightshadesaladI too am being sent back to my childhood with the new story. I don't feel like they're padding out to bloat the games, it genuinely feels like they are building out the world. Although I didn't like remake, rebirth has been absolutely fantastic to watch a playthrough of.
as a long-time FF fan, I'm glad they expanded on Midgar like that though. It's the ultimate fanservice, and it's done well.
FF7 Rebirth has become one of my all-time favourite games
One of the coolest features of Smash 4 for the 3DS in my opinion was the ability to use it as a controller for Smash WiiU. I was hoping for a similar feature to come to the switch that would allow you to utilize the screen for dual screen games some how, but it never happened. Hopefully the new switch will have something like this where we could connect the old switch as a second screen. Maybe then we will finally get DS -3DS ports?
That’d be nice.
I picked up New Vegas cause I never played it before. I am loving it on my steam deck. Plays great and I see why people say it is so good.
How doss it run? Any weird issues or controller incompatibilities?
masterpiece of a game if you can get through the jank (or fix it with mods)
If EA is making it, then I have no doubts I'm not buying it. Knowing them, they won't make Ironman, they'll make Ironma'am instead and then be "baffled" why it isn't selling. 🙄
I hope you also report the new sales for Rebirth from Famitsu recently:
Rebirth has the second-highest sales for a physical PS5 game in Japan.
It's beaten DD2. Rise of Ronin. Princess Peach. The combined physical Sales of Unicorn overload.
The only game that has more monthly sales for PS5 in Japan has been FF16.
We don't get know the digital data yet and it will sell extremely well on PC.
Square also made quite a lot of money from Sony for the timed exclusive, despite the doom Sayers.
Sales may be lower than expected but it's not a big failure as most seem to be hoping. And it's not the end of the franchise by far.
While the Final Fantasy games are amongst the best-selling games for the PS5 in Japan, they still are selling less compared with previous entries in the series. And to be honest, despite the PS5 selling decent numbers in Japan, though selling less than even what the Switch is selling on its seventh year in the market, the PS5 moves very little software compared to previous Sony consoles in Japan did. I know that these days a lot of people switched to buying games digitally, but Japan always favored physical media and we haven't seen any PS5 game that could sell over 500k in its first week.
Ff7 rebirth should be on the pc asap.
“…it being a PlayStation 5 exclusive currently, not really helping things.”
The game could not run on Switch, so that’s one platform out.
Xbox users have been conditioned to not buy games. The only other logical platform Square would have possibly considered to launch would have been PC.
Using your logic, PlayStation players have also been conditioned to not buy games as well.
You ponys and your weird broken logic.
@@RubyRose23328
No. He's talking about Game Pass having games launch day and date on the service. It's like how Netflix trained people to stop buying movies, because it was on Netflix. Same with Game Pass; it trained Xbox gamers to stop buying games, because they're on Game Pass. And the evidence is out there. Game sales on Xbox have tanked compared to years' past. So, it's not broken logic; it's fact.
Would it have helped if Square-Enix developed a sort of downport of Final Fantasy VII Remake/Rebirth for the Switch in the vein of the 3DS version of Dragon Quest XI? I mean when Final Fantasy VII Remake arrived the Switch had already sold over 100 million units and it was on its way to become the best-selling console of all time in Japan. Making a game for the most popular hardware usually results in great game sales
Happy Square was able decide it’s a trilogy, I was afraid to get the remake when they didn’t know how many parts it would be. There’s a lot of examples of multi part games not making sales throughout the series: Xenosaga no one bought part 3, .Hack or .Hack .G .U
Don't have a PS5 to play FF7 Rebirth on (currently waiting for the *PS5 Pro).*
Also, I'm still very pissed that they *locked the "Yuffie DLC" behind the PS5* EVEN THOUGH the base game (FF7 Remake) was already released for the PS4/PS4 Pro. 😤
Yeah that was pretty bullshit. You don't split up a DLC from its main game exclusive across platforms.
Emulation is great for retro games, games that you can't buy anymore, but it's being overextended now. Emulating Switch while it's still current gen and readily available is over the line imo.
THANK YOU!!!!!
Why TF is a bunch of people bringing rgt85 to the comments? WTF happened? Was it in spawncast? Is it even related to this video?
Sean doo doo buttered John's bed , like Amber Heard did Johnny Depp. 😮💩
LawBreakers as a game was actually really fun, and the antigravity movement bits were pretty awesome. The monetization and all that crap destroyed it.
I really wish they just remade the original ff7s story. As much as i think parts of the remake series are kinda cool, the overall story is just worse. Even if i think think the gameplay is a lot of fun, its so hard to recomend these new ones because i feel you really have to play the ps1 game first to really understand whats going on, and most of my friends just dont want to back to play an old clunky rpg
The entire reason for this remake trilogy to exist is so that players _don't_ _have_ _to_ play the original PS1 game. It's to kind of make it obsolete. That's the whole point. If they missed that, they definitely missed the mark.
@metaldiceman I agree. This whole new story completely hinges on the fact that you've played ps1 ff7, and crisis core which is so alienating to people wanting to get into the series.
@@metaldicemanmaybe just release a faithful adaptation then like star ocean 2 did?
@@arkiststark There's a happy middle ground. SO2 is closer to the original. FF7R is very far from the original. Halo Anniversary strikes the right balance. Still plays feels in a way players like and enjoy, but looks absolutely jaw-dropping compared to the original.
Do the complete graphics treatment and slight re-modernizing of the battle system, make it a 60-hour single title, that would've been a banger right there.
@@metaldiceman while o personally tend to the more faithful adaptations, I could get on board with your proposal. But square thought otherwise and I think it will bite them big time.
It's a shame Rebirth isn't selling better. I'm enjoying it way more than the first one, and I liked Remake a lot.
Gio joining nintendo is a very exciting prospect. He's a big reason for a lot of smaller franchises like yakuza being currently successful.
In today's current economy I am not surprised a $70 game on a $500 console that most people don't have, didn't sell well.
Perhaps third party system exclusives need to end.

The Fallout "revival" couldnt make me happier, honesty i'd love to see the old one being remastered on current gen, even if it's only F3 and FNV.
I've been holding on F4 since i got my ps4, very late tbh, but still, i really want to play it but it felt off and i played other things, forgetting about it in the end, but i'm excited to try it again when they release the ps5 update.
Half of the sales. Dang. Seems that SE didn't think the displeasure would hit that hard and their new fanbase would cover it.
I’ve been watching News Wave for a while and have much respect for you dude. You have a full time job, a family, are super jacked, and are still able to put 85+ hours into a game. When do you have time to sleep?
Square Enix is always complaining about sales but they always keep their games exclusive to 1 console at launch, they need to start releasing their games on more platforms.
They have in the past.
FF13, FF15, FFX-X2 HD, FF8 Remaster, and FF12 Zodiac Age all came on Xbox hardware day one.
And they all flopped horribly.
The reality is almost no one who owns Xbox consoles are into jrpgs.
Even back when Xbox actually had exclusive jrpgs like SMT Nine, Eternal Sonata, Blue Dragon, and Lost Odyssey, they all ended up selling like s**t.
Nah fam. PS, PC, and Switch are the only platforms worth the time and effort, and the current Switch is too weak to handle Rebirth.
Sony is helping with production, they are fine with the sales you haven't heard anyone from square complaining
@@mappybc6097 Flopped horribly? Is that what you call FF15 selling 10 MILLION units over the course of its life? FF16 has already petered off *hard* and it will be a far cry to ever reach that number.
And no they did not come on Xbox hardware day one. Dear god, do some research. At the very minimum, FF10/10-2 and FF12 definitely came to Xbox way way later on.
Almost no one on Xbox cares about JRPGs... So ATLUS definitely wouldn't bother continuing to bring new Persona entries over there, again and again, would they?
Oh my god, each time I read a singular new line of text from your comment I find something outlandish. I'm going to stop responding to the new lines 'cause it's getting redundant at this point.
They aren't "always complaining", though.
@metaldiceman I suppose I wasn't clear enough about what I mean by flop. Allow me to rectify that.
You are right. FF15 did sell 10M copies, all told. Do you know what percentage of those sales came from Xbox One, though? Try nine percent. No, it's not a typo. FF15 sold a whopping 900k copies on Xbox.
As for Persona? Well. Persona 5 Royal, the one that got Switch, PC, Xbox One, and Series S/X console ports, had sold 4 million copies last time that Atlus posted sales data.
Want to know how many copies were sold on PS4/5? 2.3 million.
On Switch, it has passed the 1 million mark by an unspecified amount. That leaves 700k copies between PC and Xbox, and I think we can agree that it's not very likely that Xbox has the lead.
Got it now? SE doesn't bother releasing games on Xbox because the revenue doesn't justify the cost of porting on top of paying the 30% fee MS asks to put a game on their consoles.
The problem with FF7 Rebirth, it is mostly for fans of the series. If you are not FF fan, if you don't have nostalgia for original FF7, it looks very uninteresting openworld game with lots of busy work. And Square Enix failed to expand the fanbase over the last 15 years with lackluster games. Instead fansabe shrinked. I'll play it at some point. I am waiting for it to come ps plus. But when I look at the marketing materials, trailers and gameplay all I see disjoined openworld activities and Kingdom Hearts level of story telling. It doesn't make me to say "I must play this like yesterday."
I played it. And as a new comer to ff7 I hated it. Didnt udestand what was going on at the end cause of some multiverse writing garbage. Regret buying it.
@@rogerarayasaborio549 the game was based, did you not play remake? you jumped into the 2nd game without knowing what was going on and you cry? you absolute nonce
If you pre order the twin pack you get remake for free when you pre order rebirth. That is a sweet deal.
Nintendo should make it as easily as possible to port a game to the switch 2. That should be priority number one to compete with pc handhelds.
Gotta love when Square Enix releases a new game exclusively on PS5 and then says its underperforming
Like bruh you made it underperform with your own choices
Its stupid that Square Enix acts like they are owned by Sony
Meanwhile, square Enix is getting destroyed by Nintendo in their home land Japan😂😂
If there isn't some kind of perpetual exclusivity agreement, I could see the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy coming to Nintendo's next system.
That would make too much sense, but S-E thinks Sony money carries a cachet that doesn’t exist in reality.
We still haven't got any solid information how powerful Nintendo's next console will be. If it's at least as powerful as a PS4 Pro I think it could run FFVII Remake, but I don't think it'd be able to run Rebirth and developers at S-E have said that Part 3 will be even more complex since they want players to be able to travel the world using the Highwind. And we also have to take into consideration the game's file sized, both Remake and Rebirth came in two Blu-Ray discs and the Switch's game cards can hold up to 32 GB max, and I don't think any company has released a Switch game in those cards. Unless S-E manages to compress the heck out of the game files or Nintendo's next console' card have at least a Terabyte of space, or at least the consoles has a few terabytes of internal storage, I don't think the FFVII Remake series will arrive on Nintendo consoles, even after the exclusivity deal ends. And in the worse case perhaps S-E will just release a Cloud version, like what they did with the Kingdom Hearts games on Switch
I'm still waiting for Konami to do the remake of Suikoden 1 and 2 for the Switch from a while ago
ETERNAL DARKNESS 2 or Remake on the next Switch would be too good to be true...
A bit of a jump when FF7:Rebirth PC hits? Dude, they are going to see a HUGE jump day one. Its probably the only game Id pay $70 for and Im holding out for it. Im patient enough and have plenty to play till Sony/Square are ready for that banger of a release.
If Square Enix wants games to sell more and get more attention, stop making them exclusive to a single console when the market is shifting more towards PC. Square Enix being mad about this is like someone being mad they got cavities are not brushing their teeth.
Makes sense rebirth is selling worse. They surprised everyone saying that progress wouldn’t carry over from part 1 to part 2. Who tf wants to play an rpg when you lose your progress. And of course they made the story worse. They changed one of the greatest stories in the history of JRPG’s and made it that cloud and friends need to save the multiverse.
Meanwhile real sales data reveals that FF7 Rebirth is dominating physical sales in Japan in it's second month. Surpassing launch games for that month like Princess Peach, Dragon's Dogma 2, and Rise of the Ronin
I'm glad Square isn't making the right amount of money for FF7 and FF16. Release on one platform, make 1 platform money.
i love watching xboners and nintoddlers seething they will not get ff7 lmao
Yep, I've been waiting for a PC release of both those games.
@@Vyse195 No one cares about PC.
I mean, Atlus finally learned that with Persona. It’s anyone’s guess why S-E is so stubborn with FF.

Well Square is milking the hell out of FFVII so there is bound to be fatigue. It also doesn't help that they alienated at least half of its FFVII fan base with the changes they've been making to it.
no they aint? dirge and crisis core which was psp and not many folk played it so they remade it for ps5
oh and a movie and all of those 3 things was made like 15 years ago plus
hardly milking it
@@random_an0n And they are making one game remake into 3 different games that doesn't carry experience and items over from each game. If you're going to change a story to a remake like this you better not mess up, this is lazily done and milking the fanbase.
@@random_an0n I mean, I think Final Fantasy VII gets a disproportionate more emphasis than other FF titles and I can understand why, it was the FF that launched the series into the mainstream, at least in the West, and I think VII is still the best selling game in the series, and while some other games in the series like IV, V, XII, XIII and XV got some spin-offs, sequels and even some anime movies, they haven't got the amount of derivate works compared to FFVII
Private/P2P servers or something similar should be mandatory for an always online game to implement once its official servers are taken offline. We need some sort of failsafe in place for when the inevitable happens.
i have open world experience, i go outside everyday, enter various buildings, interact with people and environments
When it comes to final fantasy all people really want is something to complain about
I don't have a problem with Square expanding on FF7 but I am holding off in playing this game till all 3 are fully made and available to buy. Hopefully an ultimate edition with all 3 games in 1 box.
I didn't pick up ff7 rebirth, due to the fact that I darn near never touch my PS5 anymore after I got a mini pc system...I'm waiting on a multiplat release so I can play it on the go!
You bring it up sometimes, and I’m hopeful for a Windwaker rerelease. Also, with the style of game the most Final Fantasy titles have become, I think it’s time for SE to walk away from exclusivity deals with PlayStation. Xbox players want to experience the FF7 remakes. Opening the option for another console (not PC, but an actual console) opens the potential for additional sales. It’s hard to feel bad for a company who took a paycheck, but didn’t listen to large group of people who would have been happy to be paying customers.
Sad that rebirth is underperforming. It’s really good!
FF7 Remake made me lose interest on the trilogy after that ending;
Would love Elden Ring with a Legend of Zelda themed armor set released on the next Nintendo console 👍
17:32 Are you forgetting that there are GBA games on the Switch? If you play on your TV, you could use the GBA as your controller for a more authentic experience. When I use my Game Boy Player on the GC for GBA games, I always use the GBA as a controller to have the original intended experience when it comes to the controls.
Hopefully ff7 rebirth sales increase as the year goes on. I could see it get a bump at the end of the year with awards hype. It's currently the best reviewed I think and seems guaranteed at least a goty nomination.
Not going to lie, as silly and gimmicky as it may sound, I was honestly hoping Nintendo would have released a GBA shaped controller when they announced the addition of GB, GBC, & GBA games to NSO.
Don't forget NES!
I would be interested in a GBA SP controller, especially if:
•The L and R buttons were dust resistant.
•The home and capture buttons are added on the bottom.
Can you imagine how many more Rebirth videos we would get if sales ever pick up? I never saw the poll, but will answer now.
Never was that into the OG FF7 in the first place, so there was never a rush to buy. Enjoyed the Remake demo, but was never going to pay $200+ to play a remake stretched out to multiple games. Bought Remake during a holiday sale for $15. When I finish Remake, and feel the urge to play Rebirth, I'll use Gamefly. Willing to wait until the last game releases to either buy it as a combo pack or another $15 sale.
I'm a little surprised Rebirth didn't do better. They even had a limited preorder sale where if you bought Rebirth, you'd get Remake completely free, which was a great deal for anyone who didn't own the PS5 version. I'd be all over a PC deal like that when it comes to us PC peasants :)
Casuals probably bought FFVII Remake not knowing it was a series (doesn’t say Part One, anywhere) finished the game, got upset and decided to skip Rebirth.
