Ironic that many are fascinated by Hawaii and its culture, traveling thousands of miles and fork over thousands of dollars to visit for a few days, or spending their life's savings to live there. Yet some, even local residents and leaders, can be so disrespectful to what the Hawaiians hold most dear. Most of Hawaii's tourists come from Japan and China and I'm pretty sure any of them would be offended if several giant telescopes were to be erected on Mount Fuji in Japan or on the five Great Mountains of China.

The Hawaiians were never , "weak" never have been and never will be. They were 90% literate when America was 70%, when they took over Hawaii, so think about that fact. The U.S. and foreign missionaries that owned the large plantations in Hawaii, took over the government and created a law that only those owning large acres of land could vote in Hawaii. Most Hawaiians, besides the Royal family, were subsistence farmers and owned less than one acre of land, so they could no longer even vote, in their own country.
Got that? Truth. Then the U.S. military moved in with 16 inch guns and a battleship and 100K marines, kept the last King, Queen, and Princess, under house arrest until they all died. The Queen stood down, as she only had 40K royal Hawaiian guards, against 100K U.S. marines, and she also did not want the Hawaiian people slaughtered. So that is the truth about how Hawaii became a territory and a State. Got it?
They did it for Aloha, and to preserve life, not because they were "weak" nor "uneducated", okay? Unite peacefully and stay in aloha, and a Hawaiian nation, with peaceful protests like this one , shall turn into independence for Hawaii, one day soon. Hawaiians are doomed to repeat history if they forget what that actual history really was. I am 1/8 Hawaiian and I know my nation's history, and my great great grandparents, and great grandmother, and Nana, were never ignorant, nor cowards. They were Kahuna. Aloha. Here endeth the lesson.

Why is Mauna Kea sacred to Hawaiians? Because the Kahanu would travel to the summit and brave the cold to study the sky and wonder and try to understand about our place in the universe. Hawaiians were very good astronomers, which allowed the Hawaiians to travel the vast Pacific with astonishing accuracy long before Europeans even dared sail out of sight of land. That's why when the 30 meter telescope was first proposed, the Hawaiian Voyaging Society supported it.
Another thing is, the wish of the Ali'i was to make Hawaii another educational destiny like Oxford or New England Ivy league schools. That's why Lahainaluna High School was the first public high school West of the Rockies in the current U.S. That's why they sent their keiki to far flung corners of the world to obtain world class education. I've read that Queen Liliokalani was Oxford educated and could even speak French fluenty. The Ali'i did this to inspire the Hawaiian people to desire and thrive for education so the Hawaiians themselves would be the professors and educators in. what they envisioned as the Oxford of the Pacific.
It is ironic to me that so many Hawaiians are now rejecting something that would put Hawaii on the map as the number 1 astronomical destination in the world.. And what could be more inspiring to Hawaiian children then making Hawaii a cornerstone of seeking the greatest question since mankind looked up in the sky and wondered, "Why are we here?" .

After learning more about this, do they really have to place the 30 meter telescope in the middle of what is known as the ring of shrines? They should at least attempt to find another alternative or explain why it has to be in that area. Or shut down some of the older telescopes and build it there. I still believe the telescope is pono with what the Hawaiians have been doing for perhaps thousands of years and why the that mountain is sacred to Hawaiians. Mainly, its the best place in the world to view the universe.

They have all been praying to Yahuah, Yah, and Yehusha, his son, for thousands of years. Hawaiian bible is also been there long before any settlers came to Hawaii, after Jesus rose from the dead, HE visited all the Native peoples. Aloha.

The only way is to acknowledge the illegal occupation, reinstate the Hawaiian Government, redo all the contracts connected to Maunakea, along with a bunch of other things, and then allow the Hawaiian Government to choose.
It's a long one, but that's what we're looking for. Any other way is against the Hawaiian people.

So, youd willingly take away the honor and prestige that Hawaii has held claim to, for hundreds of years...as leaders and stewards of astronomy, science, medicine, and true power? You're ok with humans not knowing how the universe was created, or to be able to spot, plot, and categorize the litany of asteroids that could wipe us out at any moment? You must have stopped your education around high school, I'd wager.
