There is nothing better than the Golden Age of Hollywood movies can't make them like this anymore ❤❤
Amen
It seems to have a very good balance throughout.
They could if they chose to.
I love these movies. I wish they made more. I never tire of them.
For sure - I wish there were 100's of these, lol - just so good!
They did radio episodes also that are good.
Watson’s attempt to assist in the investigation only to receive a dressing down was truly comedic.
I know this is almost 100 years old but I am always fascinated by old cinema. Thank you for posting!
Not quite 100, my mother will be 100 on april 24, she was born in 1923, not 1946.
@@marypaquette8705 it's the 1900's it's close enough
The perfect movie for a rainy Saturday afternoon
In fact the reason I’m watching right now is because it is raining! And I completely agree, I’ll watch a classic black and white film over a new release every time! I have no idea why I enjoy an old movie more when it’s raining but I do, and always have…snowing heavily improves old films as well but for some reason rain is better!
Loved Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes and also later on, Jeremy Brett, both such great actors. Some may not know, Jeremy Brett was in the fabulous movie, "My Fair Lady", sang the famous song "On the street where you live". Hat's off to Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett, both great Sherlock Holmes ....
Wish the movies were broadcast some time on antenna TV channels
Great classic ❤you never see again. Till this day I still watch Sherlock Holmes. Thanks
I love the way Holmes deals with the obnoxious old Karen by deliberately showing her the dead son on the floor and then apologising for letting her see him. Cracks me up every time. Well played Sir ! 😅
Greatly appreciate your uploading Sherlock Holmes, one of my fave fictional Detectives. William Powell and Myrna Loy from The Thin Man movies are my number one fave.
I love watching these guys solve mysteries
This is my favorite of the Basil Rathbone, Shelock Holmes films. 👍
As much as we all, enjoy these movies, keep in mind that after he made them Basil Rathbone was convinced that he was wasting his time, until a stranger in a chance, encounter assured him that he provided an incredible service during the war, making these movies, because it was one of the few things that kept people, sane as the bombs were falling, and the young lads were dying
The 40s movies were the BEST!! Love Rathbone and Bruce!!
Still fabulous after all these years!
The best of the best. Love these Sherlock Holmes movies. ❤️ 😊
They were a perfect mix of drama and play. They were professional, kind and lethal in the face of danger. I learned the value of constant suspicion as a child from watching these great movies.👀 It gave me an edge against my sisters clever reasonings. That's when I began to win in the chores division!!😃🤯🤓🇺🇸
Linda, is that you?! lol
😂😂😂❤❤
Anywhere you find Dennis Hoey, ( inspector) you'll have a good time.!! You know him by his voice and demeanor. Neat man.!!👀😃🇺🇸
Agreed, I have to say I enjoy the Sherlock Holmes films the best when he is in them. It completes the trio, he comes across as such a likable guy.🇬🇧
I miss black and white movies, horror, mysteries, ...brings back childhood memories
Thanks for the movie, Retro! 😊❤
My favourite Sherlock Holmes and Watson actors ❤❤
I just love Sherlock Holmes.
Me too
The ultimate (and 4me at least) the only SH....😊
Agree, he is the best!!❤😊
Ditto!
I’d have loved to live during this time so simple, I know what I’m saying and would do it in a heartbeat.
Love this era in england, even the criminals are polite.
Would have loved to travel on a train like that 😊
Murders, fistfights call me a snowflake but i would give a miss to that train 🤥
13:10 I love his subtle way of smoking lastrade
if they had a detective like him no one would get away with nothing / clever man ,.
Basil Rathbone is the Holmes I have in mind when I read a story of SH.
All year around it is fantastic film to me, thank you for posing it .
Wow, all about the diamond and not one question about her sons death.😮
i would have said drats to that diamond at that point :(
The frames that show that steam engine going really fast made me laugh! Those steam engines were not THAT fast! Lol!
what ever was up will remain up. 90 years is but a flash. still vital and rejuvenating as if it was produced yesterday, (and it was, no doubt)
Thank you for posting this movie one of the many great Sherlock Holmes story's .
Basil and Nigel, the best Sherlock and Watson ever. Well..... that's my view of course
Indubitably my dear Eugene! :0)
I really like the way you phrased your comment. I love them also.
Good film. When Holmes was pushed off the train. Yikes!
Watch Holmes's hands as he and Watson admire the stone when first shown it on the train.
I almost passed on watching this. I'm glad I changed my mind since it turned out to be one I hadn't seen before. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I always enjoy watching Sherlock Holmes because it makes me think and try to figure out whodunit.
Great watch while I’m isolating ❤
What's the time on your watch?
Too blooming true!
Wow, Watson is toddering around like a drunkard. Never knew that's how they portrayed him in these films.
Thank you 🤩🤩💖
I laughed at the end fight scene...All those men, including cops and no one thought of switching the lights on, with the switch behind them. Dr Watson had to run from farther away to do it...😂
Yes, lots of suspension of disbelief here...
*Resolution is not what is available on other channels*
Some elementary mistakes that Conan Doyle (or Sherlock Holmes) would never have made. If you had wanted to take a train from London to Edinburgh you would have gone up the East Coast Main Line from King's Cross with the LNER and not from Euston up the West Coast Main Line via Rugby with the LMS. The mistake could, however, have been made by somebody living in a country other than the UK and not doing his homework properly. And that locomotive. Its number was definitely not an LMS (or even an LNER) number. No main line steam locomotive in the UK had a number beginning 01.
Nice detective work there, u get a thumbs up from me.
As soon as i saw the Mock and Son owner pushing his assistant around i knew we were in for some quality sherlock comedy.
Well of course, I knew all along that Watson's military pal was Moran! :0)
I watched these as a kid, but watching them now. My God, the acting from the incidental cast is truly awful, but the whole thing is glorious.
These Two actors were magic on the silver screen..... Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce.... I know many facts that led to them doing so few Sherlock Holmes episodes.... Firstly Nigel Bruce died from a heart attack and Basil didn't want to continue without him.... Secondly Basil felt as though He was type cast and would never be able to work in Hollywood with such a prior persona.....
I would thumbs these movies up because they are good stories, but anyone that read the books would know that Watson wasn't an old fart idiot.
True brino, I believe it was Watson who taught Holmes about deductive reasoning. Holmes visited a class Watson gave on medical clues to illness after people passed. He was fascinated and then used this angle to better fight crimes!!!👍😉
Notice how all the children are working 😮
I like black and white movies. I had a😅😅 friend who said how could I watch them 🤣😭🤣😭🤣
My.husband.and.children too ! So annoying
The narrator in the opening sure sounds like Boris karloff
Good old Watson
Lo siento mucho pero, necesito la Traducción Español 😢
nice
i have to say it, what an beautiful woman is in this movie !!! ... and it is the good looking woman with the veil, she looks really nice !!!
Jeremy Brett as Sherlock was nice.
Renee Godfrey.
9:13 Holmes exchanged the Diamond and put it in his pocket.
This is more slick than I realized.
[More slick of Holmes]
[No spoilers here]
Because, even after you've watched it, it might not dawn on you there was more slick-ness goin' on on Holmes' part.
[Hint for after you've watched it:
The diamond Holmes had was wrapped in a soft (maybe blk velvet) cloth when he revealed it at the end -- so, you *still have to watch it* and enjoy]
Enjoy, lol.
👍😂😎☕️☕️
[[Edit/P.S. Anyone who's seen it -- ask questions and discuss below lol: ]]
Porqué pasan los capitulo s en Inglés sin subtitulos en Español?.
Best Sherlock him and Robert downy Jr and my guy from doctor strange actor
Who is Mary Forbes, duane Alfred thomas America
Lady Carstairs!
Subtitrare și în limba română se poate face, vă rog? Mulțumesc!
Even if he hadn't been guarding the 🔹 diamond I'd have bumped him off so as not to listen to him talk with that adnoidal voice with the constant sniffling that sounds like he has a perpetual case of Post-nazel drip! 😁😄😅😉
Gosh, the woman playing Miss Vedder was an atrocious actress! What was that accent she was slipping and out of supposed to be?!
7:14 Dr Watson and his friend almost missed the train because they were reminiscing"..but they’re both traveling on the same train. So the obvious question is, why didn’t they just wait until they got on the train then start reminiscing ? Now they have a long journey together with nothing to reminisce about ! I’m beginning to think the only reason Sherlock Holmes looks so smart is because by comparison Dr. Watson is so dumb!
do yourselves a favor and search this title on youtube again. there are MUCH clearer and sharper and less disappointing copies of all 14 of the SH titles, just spend the extra minute looking.
Prevod
11:46 why didnt he use that iphone and text his friends for help?
And Watson is a complete loon
Movies today are either too loud or profane they must think they can't make a movie without the swearing it's stupid
Watson trying to play Detective . And shows his stupit brain power.
terrible print/transfer-unwatchable
Nothing like Sherlock Holmes he's the best drama Detective
Poor quality recording
Too bad about the sound. And it was only recorded last week 😂
If you want to watch a model train choo-chooing along, here's the ticket. A silly, stupid hour's film.
A charmlessly dull response.
@@snorthsnorth6480 For a stupid film.
You are funny, I mean really funny. I love trains so I find this entertaining.
@seethevolcane. We’re you forced to watch the film, why didn’t you click to watch your usual rubbish. These films were top class and, helped the Londoners to survive the Second World War by taking their minds off the blitz. Not very bright are you.
Did it take your mind off the Ritz?@@peterlindop4491
I watched all the Rathbone Sherlocks when I was in grade school. My favorite Saturday afternoons when it was raining. Most stories were altered quite a bit when put on screen but still entertaining nonetheless.
I could never understand the mindset of a criminal that found stealing a big diamond or Sapphire or any polished rock for that matter a worthwhile endeavor. The near insane madness of the jewel thief to murder to gain acquisition of a mineral. I guess I never saw the value in stones that had a history of depravity in their ownership. You can keep it!
I'd rather have something created by a person to marvel at.
Watson at his worst portrayal.
Just dumb
