No it’s not spot on Neville is like Scholes & Ferdinand they toll the anti-ManUtd & anti-Mourinho line now they pay them plus their ego was hurt when Giggs an inexperienced manager didn’t get the job so they have been on a mission since then to get Mourinho the sack
But them players Neville Scholes Ferdinand even Giggs where would they be if the club didn’t give Ferguson time & sacked him before the 92/93
Neville & Scholes god bows where they would be Giggs would be getting relegated with Man City Ferdinand playing 2ndDivason with Leeds
So it shows what 1 manager could do with time & patents & wise up

Woodward should have given him every player he wanted to challenge City.
If he gets sacked, United are in big trouble because it seems no matter what happens they wont fully back the manager.

A squad that shouldn't have? Pogba, Alexis, Matic, Lukaku, Bailly, Lindelof, Mkhitaryan, Ibra, Dalot, Fred isn't enough backing? £400m+ investment?
Not to mention De Gea who is arguably the best keeper in the world too. He isn't getting enough from the squad, simple as that, he's fallen out with so many players (Pogba, Martial, Shaw etc) Mourinho doesn't have to play Young/Smalling that's his decision.

    • @Omnipotentmonkey
      @Omnipotentmonkey Před 5 lety +51

Mourinho isn't being 'forced' to play Smalling, he's often choosing Smalling because the two centre-backs he chose himself and bought for 70m, (Lindelof and Bailly) are utterly failing, alongside Sanchez, Mkhitaryan and occasionally Pogba,
Mourinho has been backed, since he arrived, Man United have a net spend of -£314m. not too far off Man City's -£405M, more than double that of Chelsea(-£151m), Arsenal (-£149m) and Liverpool (-£139m) and more than SEVEN TIMES that of Tottenham's (-£44m)
He's definitely been backed, He can indirectly attest to this himself. as he implied that Liverpool were spending in vast enough quantities to support 'buying the title' while referring to Liverpool's spending in pre-season, the amount spent was 163m, by Mourinho's indirect admission we can say this is enough to be considered proper title backing... it's also 3m LESS than Mourinho spent to finish 6TH in 2016-17...

E .S the thing is Man Utd. needed to spend that much money whether it was spent by Mourinho or someone else doesn’t matter. The players they had before Mourinho were all deadwood. Only good transfer they had before Mourinho was Martial. Now think about that. For example, Pep has spent similar money on City’s squad, but look at the players that were there before he arrived. Kompany, Otamendi, Aguero, Fernandinho, KDB, Sterling. WTH did Mourinho have to work with when he got there besides two young talents in Rashford and Martial? Only world class player at Utd was De Gea, and he’s the goalie

saying about centre backs, I do not accept that as excuse to lose away to Brighton. If you're talking about a high profile game (semi final of champions league) it's fine margins and you can say that. But when you have Bailly, Lindelof, Jones or Smalling they are good enough for games like that,Brighton could not go out and buy Bailly with there budget . Mourinho should be getting the best out of his players and all of them have gone backwards.

Its no surprise the board are hesitant to back him when he can't even get the best out of his current squad which has had so much investement and is full of very good players.

Mourinho has bought four 23 year old players, one 18 year old and two 29 year olds in Sanchez and Matic... I'd argue ge wants to build a long term team. But long-term teams like United need to win asap so I guess it's fair for Mourinho to want experience in his back line, because precisely what's happening now wouldn't happen if he had the players he's wanted! Ffs can people stop forgetting what a huge backbone Guardiola had at City when he arrived... Aside from Sané all his best player were already the best players previously Silva, Aguero, De Bruyne... And he still spent 500M.
Mourinho had a rotting defence in smalling and rojo, had no striker, had no title winners aside from De Gea, he had no midfield! So of course he should have spent more than Guardiola, much more! Ed Woodward and the Glazers are ruining the club but still expect the team to thrive??? But I still think Mourinho shouldn't be rulled out like these two are doing. With this team he finished in 2nd and got to the fa cup final and now he's added Fred who will help a lot, Pereira and Dalot who in my opinion, from what I've seen, is incredibly talented. United are still very much contenders!!

Well said but we didn’t deserve to finish 2nd last year nor get to that cup final, the problem is the other teams around the top 6 have all strengthened substantially. We bought 2 players. (Not counting lee grant because he seriously shouldn’t even be at United) we will be lucky if we get past a quarterfinal of any cup competition and if we get into the top 5. I’m preparing for a dreadful season. We all should. Even last season when we were 4-0 FC we didn’t look convincing our squad is simply not good enough no matter who is managing them.

Really?? Pep had an aging backline with the likes of zabaletta, clichy, sagna, and koralov. The only worthy mention is Kompany who was injury prone at that time. KDB was not even at the level he is now. No one was talking about him as much as he is now under Pep. Pep got the very best out of him. So your excuse for Mourinho is completely rubbish. He is using obsolete tactics that no longer work.

Seems to me everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and slating Mourinho as if he hasn't delivered anything to manutd over his 2 seasons . Let's look at what he's had to work with and how he's brought them on and how he's used them .
the season before last he determined late on that his best chance of getting into the champions league was the Europa league . A cup competition . He finished 5th in the league but what did he do in the Europa league . He won it and got into the champions league . How many managers could use their players well enough to actually succeed in that ?
Last season his team didn't finish 10th or 9th or 5th . They finished second . They finished above arsenal Chelsea Liverpool and Tottenham , Mourinho finished above the champions league finalists of Klopp , the lauded team of pochettino , the league winner conte of the previous season , and wenger .
Now go back to his time in spain . are real madrid challenging Barcelona without him there ? DID real Madrid challenge Barcelona when they had Guardiola there with Mourinho as their manager ?
So why is everyone acting as if Mourinho is failing ? Because you're getting annoyed with his moaning ? Well , he's used to having the players he wants WHEN he wants them but still look at what the players he has there have done . Europa league , fa cup , 2nd place in the league in two seasons . But remember also you're all shouting about how good his players are that were there when he started the job . Rashford , Martial , Smalling , Jones , Lingard , everyone is saying how can he leave them out in any game . No one was saying that when Mourinho joined the club , so is he actually improving players ? Of course he is . Is he delivering results ? The evidence says yes .
Now let's be a little more pragmatic . Would smalling and Jones getting into Tottenham , Chelsea , or liverpools teams ? Yet for Mourinho they've performed . Seems to me that says his coaching and his tactics have made them look better and play better . You say he doesn't play the Manchester united way . What is the Manchester united way > What has it been since ferguson left ?So it wasn't the man td way , really , was it , it was the ferguson way , and let's be honest now , in terms of players and managers and financial backing , a few teams have caught manu up now . When ferguson was manager no other team got the players man wanted . Manu financially were head and shoulders above everyone else . When ferguson left , Chelsea mancity had the resources they had for player recruitment and wage bills , Tottenham arsenal and Liverpool were catching them , the synamic was changing from a top 1 or 2 teams to a top 6 teams .
So , is Mourinho the failure people are claiming ? No , guys , he isn't . He HAS delivered on the pitch and let's be honest apart from a Cpl of players he's had to build up his younger players rather than bring In all the players he wants .
Just saying , folks , don't slate the manager without good reason and right now you don't have good reason . As for this season , we're two games in . Judge him at the end of the season , not after two games , and realise and be honest about what he has to work with and what he's fighting against .

No they had a team level on points with city on goal difference, the next season after his recruitment they were 6 points off city then last season 19 points off city
It was his two centre halfs played, we signed most expensive player in world we give Sanchez a blank cheque in wages, he has not delivered
Rashford martial and Shaw's potential has gone backwards, the man who moans about his squad sold likes of de bruyne, Salah and Lukaku
He's not getting the best of the players he has simple

Are you sure ? WHERE were manutd when Mourinho took over ? How many of that team were players that would get into the other teams of the top six ? Be honest man . And be honest about this , too . You say manutd have backed him financially . Look at not just last year and the year before , look at the last five years . Over the last five years how many of the players that mancity Chelsea and Liverpool wanted have they got ? So what did Mourinho start with ? And how much backing did he really get ? Did he get his TEAM or only the odd player to SLIGHTLY change the balance of the team ? And again , what has he done with that ? He finished ahead of Klopp poch conte and wenger last season , and only behind pep who had every player he wanted . Honesty man .

Plus he will have much better squad and money to actually improve the squad. He needs to leave Spurs an absolute joke of a team who have no ambition at all. This is their only time to genuinely challenge for a title, instead they give the manager no funds, cant even afford grealish. The reason Tottenham are where they are is one reason Pochettino, if he goes they are fucked.

agree about the criticism, but I disagree about backing him financially.
Mourinho's two choice centrebacks, the ones he definitely chose to sign, Lindelof and Bailly were the pair that brought about this conversation.
his other signings, Sanchez, dropped for Brighton because he's been utterly appalling for United thus far, Mkitaryan, didn't get a look in. Pogba? frequently misused and/or scapegoated.
If I was Ed Woodward, looking at this 380m hole in my pocket, and the lack of accomplishment said spending has netted, I would be extremely hesitant to give Mourinho more money. it's doesn't matter what quality of players you've got if they're being completely mismanaged.

    • @Omnipotentmonkey
      @Omnipotentmonkey Před 5 lety

      @Omnipotentmonkey Před 5 lety

Van Dijk's the most expensive defender ever and even he didn't cost that much,
Mourinho's just laying out bad targets, 38m for Bailly, 27 for Mkhitaryan (who he barely used) United are clearly willing to spend the cash, given the 90m acquisition of Pogba and the 75m acquisition of Lukaku, so you're just making excuses.
Mourinho's had more backing than any other club barring City, with the second highest net-spend of any PL club since the Summer 2016 window (when he arrived.)

    • @Omnipotentmonkey
      @Omnipotentmonkey Před 5 lety +1

"if woodward doesn't even put money into this project"
I'm not sure how many times I can reiterate how much higher Man Utd's net spend is then most of their competitors....
IT'S NOT THE QUANTITY OF THE MONEY
      IT'S MOURINHO'S MISUSE OF IT.
he might have more money to spend on his backline if he didn't keep frittering it away on players he doesn't need, Mkhitaryan, who barely got a look in before being sold. he's spent hundreds of millions on centre midfielders alone, (Matic, Pogba, Fred) when he already had depth in that position with Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Herrera, Fellaini) Schweinsteiger! one of the most decorated players in football, and Mourinho barely gave him so much as a chance, before offloading him and bringing in more defensive mids.
Mourinho was singing the praises of Lindelof long before signing him, hailing him as a potential great, in fact it's probably Mourinho's roots with Benfica that opened up the move in the first place.
You're also conveniently forgetting Mourinho's first season, where he spent 166m to finish 6TH. one place BELOW Van Gaal.
your FA Cup win was fortuitous as hell,
and your second place finish last season was extremely flattering,.
there's a key difference in how the 'bigger three' of the big six operate. (that' s Man City, Man Utd and Chelsea)
Guardiola arrived, looked at his squad, identified the weaknesses, (inconsistent keeper, aging fullbacks) and within 14 months on the job, he had addressed all major issues.) offloading players that didn't fit his system (Hart, Iheanacho, Fernando, Sagna, Nasri etc.)
he's made 23 permanent signings, but also offloaded 19 players on permanent deals that either weren't up to snuff, or didn't fit his system. he completely overhauled the line-up to make it what he wanted it to be, and sold players to aid both the transition of ideas and the financial burden making back around 150m on players sold.
Conte arrived, looked at his squad, changed the system, brought in the players specifically to aid that system, (Luiz, Alonso, Kante) and offloaded the players who were of no use to his style, (Oscar. etc.)
Conte made 13 permanent signings and offloaded 14 players, making back around 265m on players sold. his only real hiccup was the Matic sale, which was out of his hands. this wasn't so much of an overhaul as a few key changes, and buying depth replacements for lesser (barring Costa and Matic) departures.
by contrast.. Mourinho came in, spent big, and has continually FAILED to address critical issues, his centre back signings have not worked, he's failed to sign adequate replacements to his aging fullbacks, barring Dalot who've seen neither hide nor hair of yet. he's perpetually failed to find an adequate balanced midfield duo/trio despite throwing nearly 200m at that particular problem. and his team still aren't scoring enough goals due to his impressively negative tactics. in his time at United he's purchased 10 players. fewer than Conte despite having an extra window to buy in. and only 7 players have been permanently sold. bringing back a measly 80m it's not so much an overhaul as a slow waffling nothing.
Sarri has already flipped Chelsea on its head, with them playing noticably differently, all due to one key acquisition (Jorginho) and repurposing of existing players.
and that's Mourinho's problem, Man United lack a system, they lack direction, and they lack a proper philosophy.
while it ended badly, look at Mourinho's return to Chelsea for an example, he made a few key signings and instilled a clear tactical idea with a clear line-up by the start of his second season he had a cohesive team,
      Courtois in goal.
RB Ivanovic, given freedom to overlap as Willian ahead of him prefers to play on the edge of the box.
      CBs Terry , standard stopper
      CBs Cahill, standard
LB Azpilicueta, specifically moved over to the left as he was (and is) Chelsea's best defender, and can essentially cover the flank on his own while Hazard ran riot up ahead.
CDM Matic, destroyer in midfield, win ball, pass to Fabregas or Hazard,
CDM Fabregas Deep lying playmaker, receives ball in deep space, plays long incisive balls or threaded through balls from an advanced position.
CAM Oscar, trequartista, told to dribble at the edge of the box and retain till a pass presents itself
RW Willian, told to track back to aid Ivanovic. with Ivanovic on the overlap he'd tend to cut inside.
ST Costa, rush and harry opposition, win ball or intercept it, play in the wingers.
      LW Hazard, go nuts.
most of these players made 30+ league appearances,
Mourinho had a clear idea of what his best line-up and subsequent tactical system was.
at United? he clearly doesn't have a clue.

It's not the board that's the problem, it's the lack of ambition from the ownership and the "yes" man they hired to run it. The Glazers and Woodward don't care about contending for titles, they care about finishing top 4, going to Champions League and getting out of the group stage. That's a profitable year for them, as long as they aren't breaking the bank every summer on signings.

  • @alexdallow8796

Mourinho has lost it, it's that simple. Asking for signings to replace his OWN signings that didn't work. He's like a child constantly throwing his toys out the pram. All you have to do is compare what Liverpool are doing under Klopp having been there a similar amount of time, spent similar amounts of money yet one team is playing electrifying football and the other is now known as one of the most boring teams in the league, Man City also. Yet Mourinho continues to cry victim saying he's not been backed when he pretty much signed the whole United team he has now. Also, crying about how much other teams spend when in comparison it's very similar and forgetting he was the one who smashed the world record fee for Pogba & paid 70 million for Lukaku- having the knock on effect of inflating the price of every player. Yes, he got them second place and he can keep getting them second place all he wants, playing his dry football but I know they don't have the quality to win the premier league or champions league so let them play. At the end of the day i'd rather watch my team playing like Liverpool and City because 1) it's entertaining & 2) there's more chance of winning something significant playing in that style.

+20 years Ferguson was given time and brought success. Huge shoes to fill since he left.
LVG, Moyes now Mourinho were/are up against it with the pressure to deliver.
Imo, Ferguson's legacy is/has a detrimental effect on past and current managers at united.
A Sports psychologist would probably argue for example..
The united manager whilst in the dug out at old Trafford, across from him in big bold lettering..
The Alex Ferguson Stand. That alone would make any manager feel not worthy , intimidated if you like, just to begin with to add to the pressure.
One can only imagine ALL the Ferguson memorabilia that's in house at old Trafford!
Whatever Big name gets the united job has the worst pressure of all especially if they're a..Poch, ZZ for example.
United should look to the likes of Giggs etc..past players who are informative and where part of that Ferguson legacy. They will produce the results and more importantly, be able to deal with the fergie legacy... and it will take time..just like it did Ferguson!
They say "no one person/player is bigger than the club they represent"
    It seems Ferguson is.
Not on his accomplishments, but on how he is heralded at united!

Real Madrids team didn't need tactics that much, Man managing was required and Zidane was amazing in that. For ex Rafa has gone to Newcastle and has got them to 10th without a lot of money buy employing great tactics etc. Zidane here needs tactics to outsmart Pep,Klopp,Sarri,Etc and he doesn't have the players to do it. Just compare the Real team to Man united and you'll understand what I'm talking about. He had a leader there with Ramos, A Big game player in Ronaldo And had a bench containing kovacic,Bale,Asensio and Lucaz Vasquez who could change game in a second .Lukaku,Pogba,Matic,De Gea and Maybe Bailly are the only ones that may actually get into Real Squad . I'm a united fan who has a season ticket and attends everyday. The first game v Leicester was appalling. First 5 mins was electric but the problem now at United, when something goes against the plan( Leicester holding possession of the ball) the fans look for a scapegoat which makes the atmosphere toxic. Usually that scapegoat is Jose. None of the blame goes to the people who affect it more, the board and the players. I support the players but the board are the real people that piss me off. Just because Manchester United is a brand, it shouldn't mean that the football becomes second priority to the business side. Sacking Jose isn't going to change this. It has to be fixed from up above.

Woodward just aint cutting it football wise but commercially he is fantastic nobody can take that away from him.
