The PL has evolved so much that now is on par with every league in this aspect but for the likes of Souness and Neville this is a new accquired language.

And Rashford isnt. Guess why. 1. He is talented but he gets almost 0 support or quality balls 2. He is not that good.
All Fergie would have to do is look at a player for them to come out and score in the 2nd half. How less or how much you say is irrelevant, it comes down to knowing the player and getting the message through. Man Utd just don't have those types of players apart from a few and it's not enough.

Edit: Marcus rashford has played around 11,560 minutes, which is around 140 full 90 minute games in all competitions. In those games he’s contributed about 80 goals and assists. He is still a few years away from his peak. Harry Kane is in his prime, would be fantastic at United if they could sign him IMO.

I think this had more to do with the development of Christiano Ronaldo between 2003 and 2009. Between 2003 and 2006 the contribution of Ronaldo was far less than between 2007 and 2009. Fast forward to now and he’s absolutely spot on. Martial, Mason and rashford front 3, and ighalo as a different kind of option. We definitely need another number 9 as ighalo isn’t a long term thing but the fundamentals are there now with 1 or 2 additions for us to have 2 completely different styles of play with quality players.
On a different note, I love watching these old videos and seeing over time Souness being proven wrong in practically every single debate he’s ever had 😂

@@kanyeste United could easily challenge for the silverware if they bring in a creative mid like Isco or Eriksen or Fernandes because the problem is mostly on the attacking phase as they struggle to score. They shouldn't had sold Lukaku in the first place.

I think he is wrong though. Rashford could be a world class nr 9. It was the same regarding Thierry Henry. Left winger. Needs space to attack with the ball. Wenger put him as the main man infront. Same build. Not the obvious target man. Aguero is another one. Lacazette. I can name plenty of the same type of players. Rashford showed against Liverpool that he actually has the strength, bullying Van Dijk at one time. Ofc he can be a number 9. If he play there regularly he will only become better. Of every player in the United squad, Rashford is the most deadly infront of goal. But ofc, he needs players around him who can deliver. Thats the problem areas of Utd. Not the striker.

If Rashford was to play up front in City, i can guarantee you that he would bag close to 20 goals a season. Jesus is not a better player. He has the quality around him, that creates the chances needed to bag the ammount of goals. Utd simply doesnt.
@@Yourmomazz I think the main point that mourinho has made a few times now, is it depends on the system used with rashford playing up top, rather than rashford not being capable of being a no. 9. Where I disagree with him is the necessity of a pure no.9 for breaking down teams that sit deep. He would rather have a different player to rashford to better suit his ideal approach, rather that change his approach to suit rashford (which i respect). For using rashford as the main striker, ass you say it depends on the players around him, but also how they work together to attack (and defend of course). Essentially, rashford shows his quality when he has more space to attack/run into, but the issue is whether he can use his qualities in a different way against teams that defend deep, whilst still being effective goal-wise.

If Utd is going to continue to play the way they played under Mourinho, where Fellaini, (let that one sink in for a second) was the choice up front at times, then ofc Rashford isnt going to be the correct choice. "Longball Utd" doesnt suit even the most prolific attacker. Be it Aguero, Lacazette, Aubameyang, Suarez etc.
But if Utd developes into a attacking force, then yes, Rashford will fit quite nicely in as a nr 9 imo.

That’s actually a pretty good amount of goals a season. Anything over 30 goals is the sign of a top tier striker, then you have Messi and Ronaldo.
