Side note bro - Plants don’t lack Iron, they have plenty of Non Heme iron in most foods. So a well planned plant based diet will avoid any deficiency, but you’re right about the need to supplement B12, however a large portion of the population has a B12 deficiency, it’s definitely not an exclusive lack just in vegan diets :)

Yeah, it also helps to consume plant foods rich in iron. Blackstrap molasses is cheap and easy to obtain at most supermarkets. Also, lentils and dark leafy greens are great sources of non-heme iron. Consuming foods rich in vitamin C at the same time increases the absorption of iron from plants.

The author does not seem to have heard of pandemics (check info on industrial animal farming), didn't consider all the studies linking the top world non-contagious diseases to meat and dairy (diabetes, heart attack, etc), and didn't count all the ecological balance of the planet that, in the end, affects humans back.

That’s why we mix in vitamin C rich foods. The oxalates can be an issue with sick people, so eat the beans. The vitamin D3 you get by supplementing in winter, if you live in germany for example. And in the summer you go outside with only shorts on, like for swimming. Omega 3s you may also supplement with algae oil. Or get it from flaxseeds. Keep an eye on a good ratio of omega 3 to 6

only downside to using flaxseed instead of fish oil is with certain conditions its not very easy for the body to convert the ALA to DHA and EPA as it is using fish oil instead. It’s not the end all, but it does have very obvious benefits.

Good vid, but as others mentioned, you would not develop iron deficiency so soon :) It takes time to develope deficiencies, like B12. The B12 storage usually lasts for 3 months before deficiencies happen. I've been a vegetarian for almost 14 years now (eating mostly plantbased), and only took B12 on and off during the first 10 years without problems (was also raw till 4 for 2 years while also being a blood donor, and the 2 weeks past giving blood was the only time I took iron supplements, however I did have iron deficiency when I grew up on a high meat diet). I take 2 bloodtests every year just to check my health. The last 3 years I've started competing in swimming, which means up to 9 work outs a week, and even though my vitamin levels were in the normal range they got a bit lower from all the hard work outs, so now I take B12, D3, kreatine and a multivitamin pill 3-4 times a week. On raw till 4 I also lifted (and did a weightlift competition) with no extra supplement (only the irregular B12 pill), and no protein powder (got between 0,4 - 0,6g pr kg protein each day) and got stronger than ever before. I didn't need lots of protein, I just had to do 8 hours of lifting a week :P (I lifted 105 kg deadlift after 7 months of lifting. I am female who never lifted before, started on 40 kg)
BUT for people who want to change diet, vegan, vegetarian, keto ++ I reccommend taking blood tests just to check that you're not lacking any vitamins. (4 people in my family ages 20 to 78 have B12 deficiencies, and they eat everything, so a general check up can be smart). Also, if you want to go vegan, probably 99% need to take B12 supplement of enhanced foods. If you want to change diet in general it can be smart to join facebook groups with that diet so you can ask for health advice. As for myself, I did a LOT of reading on vitamins and proteins when going vegetarian and took blood tests. Later I've also taken a masters degree in biochem, with mastercourses in protein biochemistry. :) (I am Norwegian so if there's any typos, please forgive me, since this is my second language).

Brilliant, entertaining stuff as always but...
It is not really true that plants lack iron (there is enough iron in plants to get by as an endurance athlete).
It is also not true that you can suddenly develop a B12 deficiency in a few days.
It is also something of a truism to say that an diet can lead to a deficiency - a balanced diet will not lead to a deficiency. It's like saying that weightlifting can lead to relatively puny legs (if you don't do balanced workouts).
Saying "it is natural" isn't the same as saying it is desirable or healthy.
Kudos for raising the ethical and environmental issues at the end.
And +1 to the beer mile suggestion ;-)

i liked the video generally, but i must say being plant based my self for 3 years now i constantly add legumes and seeds in my diet like lentils and beans and then it doesn't lack any iron at all. And sure having no restrictions may seem so pleasant for your self but the biggest factor i look at is that my personal taste pleasure and comfort ain't worth as much as life of an animal that wants to live and experience life just as we do and our pets like cats and dogs do. So props to you for choosing the right words "plant based" not "vegan". it doesn't create the confusion like other ppl when they talk about plant based diet and they mix it up with veganism for some reason. Also the more time passes the more plant based foods you discover and discover how to cook better , the taste becomes complete and you no longer miss meat in your diet.

Maybe you could have got some tips from experienced plant based eaters because I think the idea that plant based food has to taste blant is not really true. For example on my christmas we made vegan and non vegan food options but most people ended up eating the plant based options because they were more diverse and just tasted good even for regular meat eaters :).

As a vegetarian of 7 years who grew up in an omnivore family and lives with a vegan roommate, I would say that the diet is an individual decision because each body acts differently. I personally do not take supplements and I had blood tests conforming that I have no deficiencies or health problems related to my diet - quite the opposite actually as I don't get ill more than 3 days per year. Though some bodies have a different metabolism and are more prone to deficiencies and health problems when having a plant-based diet.
So I wouldn't advocate for every person on the planet to become a raw vegan but I advocate to reduce the meat consumption for everyone to one or two days per week. Meat is not healthy in large quantities, and the meat industry is pretty disgusting if you have a look at how slaughterhouses look like and the amount of water and plants necessary to feed all these commonly slaughtered animals. It doesn't change a lot if a few people go raw vegan for life and possibly develop health issues but it makes a difference if everyone is saying NO! to cheap, unhealthy supermarket meat and purchase quality meat for one or day days per week instead.

seeing 192g of protein was kinda wild, I used to eat like that back when I did bodybuilding and slowly now only have roughly 1.6g of protein per kilo of BW as supported by actual nutritional science papers, and that's for doing athlete related things. I'm unsure where this super high protein intake knowledge came from but I do hope in years to come people realise its unnecessary.

6 yr vegan here! legumes, nuts, and seeds are the real key to a successful plant-based diet. of course, fruits and veggies are important, too. but for protein, iron, minerals
 go for legumes.

I am plant based, in that I get at least 90% of my calories from plants. Not planning switched to a vegan diet. Did that for 1œ years and I felt great, but I do like animal products.

That movie had some good points but overall it was mostly agitating that only plant based diet is normal, everything else is inhumane and cynical. It'd only describe things from one perspective, despite of them historically being so much more. Just another episode of vegans shaming the rest of the world.

Hey there, thank you for another enjoyable video! I think its great you tried something new and found what is best for you. Although watching it, I had an internal argument with you in my head, which I will gladly write down in this comment :D
With any decision we make as "consumers" we can't really take the ethical side and the environmental side out of the equation. "Eat everything" is a great principle, as long as that means "eat all nutrients". And that can totally be achieved with plants and only plants, although it might require more effort and planning in the beginning. There is no nutrient in meat and dairy you can't get from plants. Even B12 is added to the feed the animals and thats how you get B12 from meat. It's not like it's naturally occuring in meat. Deficiences occur, when you don't pay attention. BUT I guess this is harder to argue when the ethical and environmental aspect play absolutely no role. If "eat everything" means "don't restrict yourself", I would say from personal experience, it's only restrictive not to eat meat and dairy when you really want to eat it. When you look at the ethical side of it, there is good reason not to want it. Because the "industry" is brutal. My main motivation to be vegan stems from this. Even though meat tastes delicious, and it might be true that it's enjoyable if you are able not to think of the horrors that come with it, just focussing on the taste.... I still think my 10 minutes of pleasure does not justify the death of an animal.
As for "it's natural".... Yes, tens of thousands of years ago, we were reliant on meat. But we do not depend on meat today. If we are privileged enough to live in the global north, then we are living in a complete surplus of food. We have a choice. And because there is no nutrient we can't get from plants, there is actually no real reason to cause that amount of harm by our actions (although I think we can never achieve causing no harm at all in this global system). Just because we did something in our early days as a species, it does not mean it's good or bad today. If you go by that logic, cars are not natural, buildings are not natural, the internet is not natural, and so on. Doesn't mean it's bad. It's just part of how we evolve as a species.
Ahhhh that was fun! Good talk!

"Would it be worth sacrificing some amazing life experiences?" - yeah it would be. By eating the meat you take away the chance for another animal to have "amazing life experiences" so if you had to choose to be cruel but have a "great life" or to not be cruel and could still have a great life (because as you said your cooking skills are not too great so could be that that was why you didnt enjoy it that much): why then be cruel? I find it kinda sad that you didnt cover the ethical point at all. Also some of the information was wrong, for example you cant be B12-deficient after just a few weeks on a plantbased diet - if so, your diet was B12-deficient before as well.

Mate, come on. Humans are animals (believe it or not), we are not a higher state of being SO WHY DO OTHER ANINALS NOT CARE ABOUT OUR FEELINGS. It is part of the food chain, part of life, some animals are going to eat other animals. Naturally we a programmed that our bodies gain nutrients from meat, otherwise we would be munching grass like a cow (beef).

I love your videos but this particular one is a classic example of the whatever feels best for me must be the best way ideology. Many arguments for a plant based diet require considering how eating industrial meat affects the world around us, including environmental impacts, human rights abuses and animal rights. If enjoying how meat tastes or how it makes you feel is the determining factor for continuing that diet you will always miss the bigger picture.
