- People who love cars are always fighting as to which state is the best. Is it Califonia for the roads? Texas for the speed? Florida for the...florida man? Well California just lifted a ban on cruising and it may be the best thing that ever happened, but the history of the ban itself are some of the scariest things I learned about and after a bit, i'm worried a similar law is coming to curb the growing street takeover problem. Only issue is, it's probably going to hurt anyone who loves cars. What're your thoughts? let me know below and thanks for watching!

Hey Alex
I am from Australia and trust me when I saw you guys are in the dark ages right now.
This happened to us hardcore in the early 2000s through to the late 2010s.
Our import scene was huge, and affordable. They were the go to for fast and fun cars. But with that came the idiots who did take overs and shit down industrial estates illegally etc. the big one though......roll racing on the highway. Huge huge speeds above 200kmh on public roads. Basically a big group of cars would block the highway across all 4 lanes and slow right down. The 2 cars racing would then have a mile or more race maxing out their highly modded cars. I unwittingly attended a few before I realised this was gunna end badly for everyone involved.
After about 2 years of this being a major issue the government and police got completely fed up. They bought in these laws called the "hoon" laws and they still use them today to harass us.
It hasn't happened much but a few people who totally deserved it had their cars impounded and crushed due to a laundry list of violations.
This then created a bias toward imports and big v8s. I owned a r34 gtt back then and I'm talking bi weekly I was pulled over for w license check and a defect check of my car.
Defect stations started popping up like mad at every event organised or not. People started to not attend. It got so so bad the scene almost died completely. I went from weekly events to maybe one a month. To one every 6 months and every time the cops would shut it down.
It was a really dark time for Australia and the car scene has never recovered.
So be wary guys, those bunch of idiots that are doing take overs and stuff will ruin the whole scene for you. Trust a 40 year old gear head when I say....once cops get that mission in their head......it's game over for all this stuff.
Take it from a car guy vet that went through a government overstepping. They don't care about your feelings, they just wanna stop the stupidity and the good car people get dragged in with that net.
I'm warning you guys, we saw it as a novelty too a small side of the community we all hated......but it caused a massive shift in the way the government and police say it. Few people hurt or killed and bam....it was over.
And I'm being honest when I saw the scene has never recovered. It use to be huge and Australia does have a big community still but nothing like it use to be. I miss those days when the cops were nice, would attend the Events and admire the cars and just make sure no one did anything dumb.....they would talk to you and be interested in your car. Now it's pop the bonnet for an inspection no admiration what so ever.
At least our scene down here does seem to be healing. Like ive been seeing more people around my age (early 20s) show up at track days in little Hyundai's and honda's. Granted im not the type to go to meets/car shows very much.
@@GTSW1FT yeah it has recovered somewhat but to a shell of what it use to be. Auto salon was one of the largest trade/car shows in the world bar sema and it died in Australia due to these laws and abuse of them.
The events now exit and entry are filmed always, no crazy behaviour even just revving your engine is seen as hoon behaviour.
It very much dumbed down the shows and the events.
And don't get me started on the heap of race tracks that have been shut down due to noise complaints of residents that moved next to a race track and then complained. Some of the best tracks in Australia are now gone or a shell of what they use to be. With noise restrictions to a point any aftermarket exhaust breaks that limit. So only stock cars allowed at some tracks now.
It's a real shame that a bunch of idiots ruined it all for the whole community. I don't attend events these days because 15 mins in cops arrive. Issue tickets still. Even if the cars are parked.
So it has never recovered....and never will unless the police and government step back some on the stupid laws.
This is a wild read, thank you for sharing. I didn't know much about the AUS history in terms of stuff like this but now I feel like I have to dive into the history to learn more because it sounds absolutely diabolical. Usually, car enthusiasts never win, and it looks like we're much closer to that stateside than any of us think..
@@AlexMartini. My pleasure Alex. Adam lz has experienced this in a big way. He came down under a few years back and saw the underground scene and filmed a bunch of it. Dude slammed his chaser into a tree while he was there.
Then after he had returned to the states all the local news here in Queensland at least vilified him to a huge degree he has yet to come back. They called him the instigator of it all. The media here really hammer the scene too. They just pick the worst of the wrost car idiots and do stories on them over and over again. A current affair a really shit news program are notorious for it and one of the reasons they bought in these crazy laws. The media only ever focused on the bad....never the charity cruises or track days, the countless car guys that give their time up to sick kids in hospital for rides in their cars and to bring joy to someone's life. Nope it's all negitive here media wise.
Worth a look dude....might be worth a story on ya channel. As a bit of a precaution to your country.
@@UltraMagnis Yeah, places like Phillip Island used to be great. But the noise restrictions have choaked them, to the point that it's pointless to ever run there. Kinda makes me glad that the bend motorsport park exists and then theirs mallala raceway is the life line for the town really. Just wish their was some more tracks in sa.
But I feel that south Australia is a bit more relaxed with cars than most other states, too the point that some cars that are on the road are straight up dangerous and held together with rust. But this had allowed me to get stuff registered really easily.
Philly irks me specifically, they're trying to pass an "anti drifting bill" and they've been referring to it as "drifting behavior". Now there's a solid legitimate drifting scene here in the tristate, Club Loose, Evergreen, Wall Speedway ect, and we host Formula Drift in NJ, what I'm worried is going to happen is the general public and lawmakers are going to start pointing fingers and accusing them of promoting it or being "breeding grounds"
It's so stupid bro, keep fighting the good fight
i mean its philly you all get no sympathy for anything, ya'll riot over losing a stupid fucking football game
Can we have one politician who’s into cars
@@61936 No. Let's just raise gas prices like crazy and promote Lithium Ion deposits, what could go wrong?
Am I the only one that doesn't do cruises? Like sure if one of my friends and I are going somewhere we will roll together. But I just think cruises are a bad idea. If your cruising with a group that you don't know, all it takes is one person doing something stupid and because you are associated with that group you are also gonna risk getting caught up with whatever the consequences are for that. Just not worth it. I'll do a cars and coffee or daytime meet, but I have always just avoided the cruises.
7:36 PRELUDEEE
MY GUY
Let's be honest, takeovers ruined everything
It's because most cruises don't exactly do the speed limit. I rarely see one where Most people do. I'm usually One of the slowest in a cruise. Because my job depends on having a clean driving record And I have more to think about than my own selfish desires.
You’re the one that gets picked off
@@WarriorOfEden3033 You're not last your second or third to last. And you usually don't get noticed to the front or the back gets picked on.
Same, but that's why I have 2 velcro plates on my trackday bike. 1300 CC hell nah am I gonna go a reasonable speed when I can hit 300 in a dime and out pase the most powerful hypercars to exist
@@hyenahallstrom7034 That's why I don't own a bike when I did own one I found it way too easy to be doing well over triple digits.
@@TwoDollarGararge definitely the back gets picked on the front typically sets the pace & should be a slower car/ driver
They already do here in SoCal. Popular canyon runs on ACH, Azusa, GMR etc. are generally hot with cops nowadays.
End of Toge and “private roads”?
yo i love this kind of deep dive, great work!
This is EXACTLY what happened in the Dells for Automotion (at least the last one I went to back in 2018). Lake Dalton PD literally waited for cars with distinguishing features to drive past more than3 times in a 2 or 3 (I can't remember which) period and would then pull them over and cite them for cruising and whatever other things they could find. Made going up in my buddies rental car spec chevy malubu all the rage cause no one looked twice at the thing.
Bristol in Santa Ana orange county from 1998 through 2004 was a block party!!! Geez I'm 43 now and that was a party lol (cruising Bristol was so fun I had a 2001 Acura cl at the time slammed cut springs about 3 .5 in dropped on niche F-16 at the time 5k jl audio system bumping it in Bristol getting all the ladys haha
Fighting the good fight, thank you for putting this out there. I think its news that car enthusiasts need to hear.
You're welcome dude!
what up alex im from quebec canada and im happy that theres not any takeovers around here, well we have enough damn trouble with the cops and car modification has it is lolll just hope it wont come to my part of town hahah like your your videos keep it up
You guys need to come to a good lowrider cruise sometime. There is nothing like it in the world
This stuff reminds of teh events happening in Wisconsin dells with automotion
History repeats itself. Hopefully we break the chain 2024. Shout out to the low riding movement that brought the stancy bois.
They already made a law about meeting in large car groups in Blaine MN
LET'S -F*CKIN'- GO ALEX!
Imagine if gatlinburg o any car shows had laws like the cruising law, car culture would be different
Honestly...with doordash and ubering, how the hell didn't this get turned over earlier? lol, probably the easiest overturn when you think about it.
No discussion about it, fuck takeovers flat and simple
There are states that have stop and frisk laws NY is one of then
Cruising, like a lot of the laws and practices in place today, has its roots in racism. Cruising was primarily done by people into lowriders and the culture associated with it. Who primarily was into Cruising? Black and Brown people. Make a law that de facto targets a specific group and say you're doing it in the interest of public safety, only that law just makes it open season for cops to do stop and frisk and or ticket and cite people for having something too nice. With the rise of takeover crews, we're gonna go back to that period and it'll suck. But it's kind of our fault for not gatekeeping the hobby a bit more and having a "respect all builds" mentality for too long. These people came into the scene with the intention to irritate and piss people off with shitty stance cars and "ain't care" builds. When that stopped pissing people off, street drifting became the name of the game until people didn't get pissed off about that anymore. Now these same people want to show off in intersections and harass people on their drives home every night. We needed to police ourselves better but now someone else is going to do it for us.
🚀🚀
Ah hell yeah, some news! Slow day... Heh
Legal or not wont stop us.
As a pizza boy …. I can cruise my dude
Knowing Cali as it is rn, they gonna make a bs law that states just as u said, now it depends on who’s the right person to implement and refine that law for the cops not to generalize the real enthusiasts and the clout chasers as one in the same
Too late
stop and frisk? they just stopped that shit in ny like 10 years ago XD
It ain’t the bikes.
Takeovers ruined c&c. I’m no longer allowed to bring my scat to the events. Sucks so much people ruined these cars
Yes, because every time. I go to a gas station and see a pop-up car meet and there is more than one Scat pack And the owners are younger then 35 My immediate thought is great. The cops are gonna get called because someone's doing burnouts in the parking lot.
@@TwoDollarGararge I’m 18 but I gotta have a clean driving record for my certification I understand why young people like me drive the cars certain ways but there’s a time and place for everything
@RMoney65 It seems like the vast majority of people don't understand that. I enjoy a good back road myself from time to However, the person in either an E63 or C63 amg that almost ran into me at 5pm with my kid in the back clearly didn't care
Of course Hyundai would be an Amazon product it’s cheap & will break after using it for a few months
This isn't a Left vs Right reply ok.
But don't act as if the police are the bad guy because a lot of people driving these cars are driving them like a complete assho le. If people started to not drive like that it wouldn't be so much of a problem. Coming from myself I normally keep to myself and just drive and enjoy the car but I always have some stupid ignorant kid bothering me on the road. I find it very strange that people in the car Community always talked about Japan this Japan that but they don't want to pick up the Morals from Japan. Bulid a great car, keep others on the road safe, and don't bother others. BUT Japan this JDM 🙄 🤡s

Lets face it its more things that are illegal in california than are not
Its probably illegal to even breathe in california 🤡
Don't take your truck there guy
@@AlexMartini. lol they would take my truck and ban me from ever coming back
Alex: 😭waaaa waaaa takeover bad! *gets pulled over doing 90 in a Ferrari* waaa takeovers 😭
Takeovers are bad and much more reckless and dangerous than speeding....
I found the genius everyone 🤡
@@iCuretheWorld if you're interested in safety and not damaging reputation they are just as bad

Here in Germany you are automatically a top wanted criminal if you modify your car and we don't need takeovers for that.🥲
