- We're helping people build their car on martiniworks.com/ so if you need wheels, tires, suspension, performance parts, or just plain help, you know where to go. We're not doing this for a check, we're doing it because it's fun.
Over the past year I have had the awesome experience of owning a brand new 2023 Nissan Z Performance. We drove it, modified it, and took it across the country for track days and car shows. I talked about why I loved the twin turbo setup and the new feeling with the BC coilovers; so why am I selling it? Good question...let's talk about it.
I could seriously go for some subs & follow right about meow, so see the links below:

Because you paid 70k for a car that needed 30k in upgrades to keep up with a 63k Supra, that can't keep up with a 65k M2, which is more boring to drive then a 50k Mustang, while thinking, "I could have had a Z51 Corvette."
This is like poetry, lmao!!! 🤣😆
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
30K in upgrades??? That would easily build a 1200HP Z.
Engine is the same as a Q60 (you know a car you can get for like $20k 😂) no reason to get 400z especially at its high af price
Glass transmission is honestly the one truly irredeemable part. What’s the point in mods when all you accomplish is grenading the trans
Remember guys, don’t modify the bank’s car
Yo, Collector's Car Feed enjoyer here!
@@baoquoc3710💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
I think were all realizing that most new cars are just to expensive to modify and too much of a hassle to work on yourself and old cars are just more fun
Because old are cheap and new are expensive. Bro you said it your self 😐
@@sdhl9936yes, that’s essentially what he was saying
ND Miata enters the chat
@@screamingstrings76 the nd has existed since 2016, that is 8 years, the z has been around since 2022, thats 2 years. Big difference
As an Evo X owner I wasn’t impressed from the jump on this Z.. The Supra will end up holding its value and looks and feels better behind the wheel. Not to mention Mods are friendlier than they are to put on than the Z
I think it’s very telling that the very first compliment he gave the Z was its infotainment system.
And the second compliment was that it’s great on long highway drives.
Exactly!! Those 2 things are for grocery getters not a performance vehicle 😭‼️
Of course he mentioned the infotainment system first.. isn't that what all young guys care about? I wish there was a delete option for infotainment systems...JUST GET IN AND DRIVE THE DANG THING!!!
He sold it because he couldnt afford it, not because its bad lol. Watch the video before saying something stupid.
5:05 seems like he sold it so he could do other activities & employ his friends… did you watch the video?
@@Adizzle235Exactly, he couldn’t afford it. He could either afford the car or hanging out with his friends. He chose the friends over the car aka, he couldn’t afford the car. OP is right.
@@alexmendez3681 he couldn’t afford to do what he wants with his company & keep the car.
But he can afford the car itself.
its mediocre at best
@@Adizzle235He could afford the car yes but he couldn’t afford to keep it. Just because you have the money to purchase a car doesn’t mean you have the money to maintain it over the long run. It’s the same reason why people complain about expensive maintainence on european vehicles. Because most of them are middle-class who buy expensive cars.
Guys if your dream is a Z work for it don’t change your word cuz of CZcamsrs words, remember the car is NEW, parts will be cheaper by time, if you don’t like to modify your car just wait this is the FIRST YEAR so probably later this car will be better.
Yuh that’s it 😃👍
They have to build and sell them first.
@@icannon6611 seriously, no one else is having as big of a problem cranking out their performance cars. there's probably more FL5 Type-R's on the road. and then dealers are trying to mark them up? gross.
@@dasmg I've actually seen a decent number in my area, but they're 10-20k above msrp, it feels like they don't want them to sell
This. When the 350z and 370z came out, parts weren't cheap either.
Thats not the entire issue. Inflation continues to skyrocket. The average car enthusiast of the 90s and early 2000s doesnt fucking exist anymore. Cars are literally for rich people at this point ina tax bracket thats different from most of us. We now have focus more on groceries, rent, house payments etc because everything else has skyrocketed. At the end of the day we have get our priorities straight. The days of middle/low income car enthusiast is over.
the Z is a super niche car in my opinion, you either adore it... or dont really care for it
I feel like a ton of us dig it, just not at $60k...
I love the look, hate the price. I'd take a cloth interior, roll up windows, and g37 infotainment system for 25k if it had the new Z body lol
@@menace2society00 well you'd be an outliar lol, BUT in a couple years i can see some mid milage of the sport trim with the cloth interior for 30's so
I've loved every past generation of Z for looks & performance. This generation? Looks YES Performance? Ehhh? Price? Hahaha ha, you gotta be kidding me!
Just sold my Elantra N, got in and out of it for about $2500. 2 years and 22k miles. Great car but like you, I didnt want the car payment anymore, and it was expensive to do fun things with the car.
Picked up a 2019 Fiesta ST for $11k and im loving it so far. I think I may just prefer hatches honestly, but it has everything i need and its very angry car. It a companies my NB Miata very well
So you should have bought a veloster N
Love hatchbacks. Sadly the only proper hatchbacks that I can think of that can be bought new are Golf and MINI. Wish Honda will bring back a proper looking hb.
Damn a veloster n may have been the better car for you
@@TheSrgblade had one before as well. Fiesta St is cheaper
Post how much you lost on it
i love these videos, but after a while the film camera transition with the whoosh noise takes me out completely. (your editor used it 22 times in 7 minutes) i know this is a car channel and not one that makes movies, but the best editing is the kind that is unnoticed. hope this helps, love ur cars
I caught that too. Probably the first time i've actively noticed it and I agree - I kept getting pulled out of the video because of it.
It's almost comical, like there's an inside joke or side bet on how many times they can use that effect without getting caught
@@edrosales1520Excuse me, are you saying meow?
Kubric Lynch Tarentino - old film study is greatly needed for this generation that edits like they did an 8 ball and meth.

Remember when 220 hp in your 3000 gt was the first time you thought you felt real power and the first time you accidentally dropped the clutch you just kept it pinned because you knew you could stock and a lil rundown with a smile
He did the class move. Buy a car new while it’s still relatively rare and above retail, then as prices are dropping (but you can still profit) and you have your fun you sell it.
Appreciate the transparency and think you guys did what was best for MW.
you sold it because you bought it for clout and content and the vids werent doing good we get it. its not an interesting car i still havent even seen one in person

I totally understand why you sold it. The expenses are too much nowadays.
I, too, enjoy older cars. Cars that you rarely see and are often overlooked. I get a lot of joy breathing new life into them, too. Not the same excitement from a new car.
Thanks for the video! Looking forward to new videos! Have fun and please don't lose this authenticity. 🙏
Love you guys. Keeping grinding forward Bois.
There are some comments saying Because you can't mod new cars. The thing is you can buy a new car that has 400 HP and race suspension from the factory. It doesn't even need modifying. Buying a 90s car, repairing and giving the mods to get the same level of performance would cost you more than the new car.
Facts. I'm modifying an old datsun right now. I'm at the point where I'm like.. damn.. I could have had a GR86 instead, and it would be a whole lot safer, easier and more reliable. You're right, new cars really don't need any mods. $4k+hours on a brand new car because you don't like how it sounds? 3k because you want cute wheels? First world problems if I ever heard them. He didn't even wear out the stock rubber before changing them.
Alex, been following you since the Fitment days. I like that you are into weird cars. I had a Toyota Corona EXiV JTCC version 3SGE with recaro confettis from the factory. One thing about owning weird cars is that no on knows or cares about them and then parts become just a nightmare to find. $250+ for used window regulators that constantly break. I like your content and wish you the best. I hope you get some weird cars
My first car was a 95 Subaru SVX that I bought for 3300 bucks. Always wondered how I got it so cheap until ai cracked the rear quarter panel and it took me 5 months on ebay to find a replacement and it ended up being $400 lol
The 370Z is basically a tourer (GT) car, the new Z being the same chassis with a different drive train and body kit makes sense it would still feel like a tourer.
It is completely stupid to buy a 2023 sports car just to sell it in 2024.
Absolutely. Don't forget irreversibly modifying the exhaust as well. 🤡
Bro I’ve been wondering why your not on fitment industries videos anymore I’m so glad I found this
The prices you mention are the same for all new sports cars. And the mods you did are done on all of the current platforms. In short modding new cars are expensive.
I hope you keep tabs on the car and consider picking up your z again if the finances permit it cause i think it'll be pretty cool to have that kind of throw back in the future
I test drove a Performance Z and a GR86 the same day. I ended up with the 86, the Z was just all motor and didn't make sense at 52k. I'll check it out again when they refine it.
Automobile manufacturers pay attention, dudes with modified Ferrari’s in their home garage think the payments on new cars are too outrageous to justify. When I was a kid a six figure car was a Ferrari now it’s an f150.
That sales rep is going to be so mad that you sold it lol
Don't hate this decision! Would like to see another import in the fleet! Excited for the upcoming build you guys have been talking about
I didn’t realize the car was gone lol. But completely understandable as to why it’s gone. Looking forward to future growth.
I totally feel your opinion of the car, it seems like a 300ZX time period car... After this one, the good Nissan rennasaince should come. 😁 Nissan need to downsize the new Z to give us the analog car we love. Like the 350Z was on his time. I think that's the Z we love, the raw, driver oriented car.
Yes indeed got 2007 350 pure sports car tight suspension raw no fancy computers . Just a simple sports car. Had a 300z. Love that too wish I keep it. Nissan give us the 350 back more hp and torque and lighter. No fancy components pure raw sports car.
Creator market dumping with inflation at an all-time high bro brooo
It's cool you take our tickets at the opener. Sorry I couldn't make to Martini Works grand opening, father of 3!
Never again will I own a car that’s more than $600/month. The bank says I can “afford” a car that’s $2,200 a month/$120,000. But nooooo thanks. Ima stick with my paid off cars. My 50/50/25 rule of 50% down. 50% financed. 25% saved for repairs/mods/after purchase care.
Thank God, so more gloria content
Own a 1990 z32 NA and love it and was excited about the new Z, but after driving it and comparing it to a C8 Corvette - C8 is now in the garage, bought slightly used (8k miles) but same price point as the Z. And yes, I stilll own the z32.
It’s literally just a more modern 370z but costs WAY more…but damn is it beautiful
Saw my first current Z in the wild only a few weeks ago. Unbelievable that it would take this long for it to happen since I live in a major metropolitan area.
I'm in the SF Bay Area, All kinds of money flowing in this area, and I have yet to see a new Z here either. Honestly I had kinda forgotten about it all together.
@@brandons9138 - yeah me too in SF (proper). This week alone I’ve seen more than a handful of newly delivered GR Corolla with temporary license plates roaming the streets.
I think I've seen 3 but I'm fairly certain it was all the same one.
@@baronvonjo1929What do you mean? You didn't memorize the license plate?
Just kidding.
Didn’t know you sold it 🤷🏻♂️
The Z is a great second or third owner car. It still has double wishbone suspension. Handles tunes pretty well. It would do great with some coilovers and sways.
Not exactly the same car, but I had an old Datsun Z that I adored and then later I bought a 370Z when it was still a late model car.. It never lived up to what I thought it should have been; my old Datsun was more raw and enjoyable in almost every way, unless you just wanted to look at a stats sheet. I felt that you needed to sink quite a bit of money into the 370 with mods to bring it up to where it should have been from the get-go.. but maybe that's the just the way it is with a lot of newer cars that are still trying to appeal to as large of a market-share as they can.
Just get a 350z/370z instead for way cheaper if you still want to do z content. We would all appreciate one of those instead of the new ones and way more content to shoot.
I always found you to be the most likeable guy back in the FI days.. been following you since the start and always thought that the Z was not the right car for you. An amazing car dont get me wrong, but there is something about building a car the way you want versus just buying a new one. Very curious where the channel goes!❤ ❤❤❤
Hey choosing to hire friends than keeping a car shows heart and love towards your friendships, no car is worth more than life long friendships. Cars will come and go, good for u man following all of u from fitment industry days. doing the right thing matters, in this case u did the right thing. ❤
Always wanted a Z. Watched a BMW M2 eat one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I bought a BMW instead 🤷♂️
i like a grand tourer...used to have to drive about an hour twenty minutes to one way to work, so when i built my mach 1 i tuned it more for long runs at high speed , shes quick in town but not fast but on the highway no one is catching me, shes still fun on track but now im kinda torn between keepong her as is or make the foxbody the track toy
Congrats on the sale sir!!! Some matsuri content would be awesome!!!
Good choice on selling that off! The 350 and 370's are a better bang for the buck and the mods are so much cheaper too. It feels like pretty much anything at the Z's price point is a better sports car too.
i kept my Type-R over it, and i really wanted the Z. wrong wheel drive and all, the Type-R just feels more fun.
5k turbos on the new z can get it 750 whp with fueling on stock internals. Sounds much better too.
@@2seep Throwing more money at an already way overpriced car just doesn't seem like a great idea to me. I'm glad people are liking the car though and hopefully Nissan will keep making them. Maybe the next version will be one I like more. Until then I've got my 370 and couldn't be happier :)
@@ravendarkcreations5990this is why people should buy the base version. At 42k it’s a good point to start. Especially since everything upgraded in the performance model has much better aftermarket version. Alex also decided to buy the most expensive parts which isn’t necessary.
@@2seep Excellent points for sure! I still don't think I'd go for the new Z with so many other good options on the new or used market for that money though. Definitely personal preference though.
That one weird Nissan sales guy is absolutely gutted this is the last video he gets to see about the Z
Great car but it doesn’t have an aftermarket ecosystem around it yet. Martini crew was just to early
watch the video
The New Z hype died off, lol.
naw its still strong IRL at real car shows, buy what you like and can afford.
Why did you think this was a good idea in the first place? What was the initial plan? What kind of videos were you planning on making exactly with this thing?
You'd love a lotus Elise they are sum special and not so expensive 💯
900 a month as a business expense is cheap as hell. i wish my operating cost outside of my building was only 900 a month lol
Sad to see the Z go but I mostly came to say
Gimme moar E46 content!
The only person you’ll receive backlash from is that car salesman you bought the Z from.
The Nissan Z, at least from what I've seen, had all this hype and after it came out I stopped hearing everyone talk about it. I could be wrong, but it just seemed like it came out, people weren't really impressed, and few people cared about it anymore.
Nissan made the Z car a GT car with a Nissan300zx. This last rendition the Nissan Z is a combination of all models. It only makes sense that the car has grand touring feel to it.
The production numbers for the Z are still quite low. I think they've built less than 3000 of them in 2 years of production. If this continues it will be tough for the prices of aftermarket parts to go down. I don't think Nissan ever intended to build as many of these as they did the prior generations. This is like a limited production send-off to the internal combustion-powered Z car. They intentionally styled it as an amalgamation of all the prior generations. 240z front end, 300zx taillights. There is a lot of Z31 300zx in the side profile, ground effects, and metal/silver swooping line down the side. Obviously it can't get away from the 370z roofline and glass, so the resemblance is unavoidable.
I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy this car as a cost-effective tuning platform. Buy it if you really love Z cars and want to own what will probably become a piece of history. If you're willing to invest a few grand you can make it stupid fast, but there are cheaper, more common platforms for that.
I wish you kept the Z because im a huge fan of it but i also understand it doesnt fit with your current goals. Hope it went to a good owner.
My favorite build was an 05 cobalt Base model 5 speed. I bought an $800 replic Vader kit and wing on some period proper 12 spoke konigs. A two tone rattle can job inside and out. A proper dc car back and intake on the 1.8l NA nugget. The entire build was a joke I named it uncle Ben because it was American Rice. The appreciation from little kids as I drove by was constant.
I don't think that you even owned a cobalt. The base engine of the 05 cobalt was a 2.2L engine. LOL, I didn't even own one.
@@MastersOfMaskmaybe he did, but just isn’t sure what engine he had, it happens to people
Glad you got rid of it. The new Z doesn’t have the history or culture behind it and since it’s unattainable to most of us so we couldn’t care less about it.
Have you guys thought about rehashing and updating some of your old successful videos from fitment industries? Like the Rays history. Might be good to get some of those classic topics under your new umbrella
TWO UPLOADS IN A SINGLE DAYY LES GOOOOOOO!!!! Also do you ever foresee yourself (or MartiniWorks) doing a base model and/or budget build?
This is why we can’t have nice things, people complain cars are underpowered or that they are too expensive, you can not have both
Sad I never got to see it but I'm glad it's a weight off your shoulders
I was watching the Ferrari video as well, what happened? xD
It because the payment Interest rates too high! I love hater’s especially the ones hate on new Z Nissan is real daddy!
When the Supra exists, this is nearly an impossible sell. Which is a touch of death for a niche car to begin with.
One of the worst new gen cars to finance lol i knew he was going to sell it the same day he posted that he financed it. All models need to be $40k CDN (Not USD) new or less
There vids of the gr86?
You had the "boy I'd love to have some fun with this but I'm also tens of thousands into this if I crash it" conflict
I think the Z is over priced and when it comes compared with other cars like the Supra and the mustang gt stock from factory, the Z is doing very poorly to keep up with the cars that I just mentioned you have to put like an extra 10 to 15k and that’s bad. For that same money you could have got something better. Just my opinion
Bought a set of wheels for my RSX from fitment industries over a month ago and the car is built but no wheels, i see why the team left. fyi i live close to their warehouse
Alex, imma give you(martini work/werx) a shit with my Audi D3 L. Deleted air ride system already. Got some coilovers on them. I need your help with some nice rotiforms and tires and adapters if needed. Let me know buddy
I didn’t pick up S 2000 T but I picked up an S 2000. My second one I really missed that car.
It's a nice car the price is the killer its like so many other cars in same price bracket are better
just buy old cars that don't take 20k to build, all these projects seem insanely big for the time being, id love to see you guys build a car thats less than 12k to being with
Let me write the honest version of this video.
We paid $65k for what we thought was a sports car, but ended up being a grand tourer at best. We looked at the interior and said, wow, I seen 30k cars with better materials. But we already bought the car and said, let's make money on youtube content. We put in 20k in mods and realized no one was really watching because a Z costing more than 50k TTL included is an exercise in futile delusion. And we think this car may soon depreciate to depressing numbers so we quit while we were ahead. But if we want to keep a relationship with our sponsors? We can't call this Z a POS minus the engine.
At the end, you called it a bright, yellow 370Z! What?? That calls for a correction...😎
Porsche - There is no substitute
Cars are pretty much only for the rich these days. Im really waiting for the breaking point. In a way its greedy automakers. But also the demands of customers and governments and competition keeps adding new things and rasing prices.
But unrelated its buying power is in the gutter. I dont see how its sustainable.
I understand why more and more people are anti car and want alternatives. Even a econmy car payments, insurance, and maintenance is just back breaking.
Older cars are better. I'd take a nismo 350z over a new z, or any new car
@6:10 no car note is a beautiful beautiful thing
Just started the wijeo (shoutout Uncle Roger), but i'm willing to bet that he just realized it was a reskinned q60 red sport with the same old manual from before and was completely underwhelmed, lol..
Edit: I was partially correct.. definitely underwhelmed.. Was expecting something more than what Nissan offered up... but Nissan had to pinch pennies and work with what they had in the parts bin.. Bottom line, the juice (feelings from the car) wasn't worth the squeeze ($900/mo)..
W Monday upload
That was fast
The front bumper looks like they shipped it when the designers were out to lunch.
As a Z fan I like it but I wouldn't get it. It's way too close to to C8 and 718 territory 2 cars that are far superior in every way. The BMW I will never be a fan of just because I despise Toyota for what they did with that car.
Just started this video, I feel like I never see these on the road
Your first Z is way, way better + classy than the 400Z
I don’t think the aftermarket is there, also the price point is ridiculous. The Z line is suppose to be an affordable sports car, if they wanted to make it so expensive should’ve made an infinity variant, also no LSD in the base model for nearly 50k is insane. Should’ve got the gr86 and built it
What’s the story on the 67 Camaro?
I had one and sold it as well, most overhype trash I’ve over driven. It’s reskinned q60 redsport.
Q60 w no backseats
I'd take a q60 red sport any day over this
I was watching that other video
What’s the next build?
I think the new z is a fail. They priced too many fans out of buying the car. I see a SHIT load of the olders Z still ,350/370,. Ihardly see the z on the road.
I think the new Z is a great car, but it doesn't really do much that similar cars in its price bracket are are already doing better. Sometimes cheaper!
buy what you like and not try be like everyone else just an idea, I'm personally sick of seeing 20+ supras at car events but that's just my opinion.
