  • Adding new soles on some battle scarred boots gives new life to what could have been the end of the road for a lesser made boot. Enjoy this journey of a custom pair of JK Boots from tear-down to ready-to-ship.
    The beauty of a resole is not just in the craftsmanship but also in that it saves time and money because you don't have to throw away an otherwise perfectly good boot. During a resole, we preserve the perfectly broken in leather with its unique natural patina. When we are done, the boots will fit exactly how you remembered, like a glove but with a fresh lease on life.
    At JK Boots, all of our different boot models can be sent in to be resoled through an equally precise process as seen in the video. No boot leaves our shop without being thoroughly inspected and taken care of.

    *The old stitching on the midsole should always be removed. Every cobbler I've watched on CZcams always removes the old thread. Because when you don't, it causes more problems down the road. It leaves a tangled mess. So when you see a local cobbler, it makes it harder for them to remove the old threads with their pliers with twice as many threads in the stitching holes. This information is according to the cobblers I watch on CZcams. Also, by cleaning the old stitches, and having fresh stitches without any old stitches, it makes it a lot easier for the next cobbler to remove the rubber sole and midsole. It's messier stitching on top of old stitches.*

      *Maybe it's because they don't have enough time to remove them, due to having so many orders they have? Just a guess. I know they do sand them down, but it doesn't seem good enough.*

    did you leave the old stiching in the boots?

    • @JinsKookieJams
      @JinsKookieJams Před měsícem +1

      *Yea they did! I remember watching Bedos Leatherworks and Trenton and Heath. Both cobblers said its really important to remove the old threads, so the new threads don't tangle up with the old threads they sew on the new sole. I'm surprised they were able to stitch a new sole on with no issues. I did see they sanded them off though, even though they did have a bit of threads in all of the holes still. I'm guessing they leave the old stitches, maybe due to not having enough time to take them out. Perhaps because they have so many orders to do. But still, it is better to take them out. Because what if they come back for another resole much later down the road, and now there's a build up of twice the amount of threads (the thread newly put in this video, over top of the old thread we see). So I still agree with Bedos and Trenton and Heath about removing the old thread, before continuing the resoling process. That way the soles will be much easier to remove in the future. I see how they struggle to remove the rubber soles and midsoles sometimes in their videos. Now I know why! It's because they don't remove the old threads fully from the holes.*
      *Good eye!*

    What's the cost of buying new boots compared to a restoration?

    • @jkbootsusa
      @jkbootsusa  Před 10 měsíci +1

      That can be hard to determine since most of our boots are offered at different price points. If you are interested in looking at the different styles of boots we offer, head over to JKBoots.com where you will find the best option for your lifestyle and budget. Depending on which model of boot you have, a resole can start at $179, while a full rebuild will start at $329. If you already have boots and would like help in determining what will be best for your boots, email our customer service team at general@jkboots.com to see what we can do!
