  • Holy smokes this one hooked into my soul. It's honestly not often I get so intrigued by a band on the first song that I immediately need to see what else they do... but I did here. The classical vibes are something I'll always get behind... and the metal... well, I mean. Yes. There are a lot of elements to this song that quenched that melodic death metal thirst I get.

Thank you champ! I truly love Bridear. These ladies cover the gamut from true metal to more hooky pop rock and definite progressive rock tendencies. Keep climbing down the Bridear rabbit hole. You will not be disappointed. Check out light in the dark from them

Finally we get BRIDEAR from you (those of us not on Patreon), they were at one time one of my favorite bands from Japan, sadly their newer sound, after Misa and Mitsuru left, just isn't my thing with this song being the exception. I would love for you to get to my favorite song from them. Tina would you be so kind as to put Remedy on the list, please?

Agree Baryte is one of my favorites still the album is smoking. I especially like Light in the Dark and Scream. Also Kai on drums is missed. Nothing against the new musicians as they can play but the lighter sound is not my thing.

  • @salsaucedo

The original members are Haru Bassist and Kimi the singer the other three joined around 2018 or so before it was Mitsuru and Misa on guitars whom I think we're a lot better as well as Kia the drummer they go back as far as 2011 and released their debut album in 2013. Check out the song Thread of the Light (2013) czcams.com/video/enbjKqMOTe4/video.html
When this song came out for the very first time it did not go well for the band because it was way too poppy and that is why they did the revised version of it so much better, influences and vibes to me are borrowed notes, borrowed riffs, borrowed techniques, borrowed sounds, everyone does it and that is what makes rock/metal music so amazing out of one borrowed riff and 6-minute song can be created, the pilot, the climax, and the conclusion that leaves you wanting more

I don't think I recall this from your old channel--is it a new reaction? Anyway, here is some background:
One of the second wave of all-female heavy-metal bands, founded in 2011. They go hard and heavy, and epitomize the technical side of Japanese rock bands. Here is the original lineup:
    Kimi-Vocals
    Haru-Bass, growls
    Misa-Guitars, growls
    Mitsuru-Guitars (pink flying V)
    Kai-Drums
In 2019, Kai left to start a family, Misa left to pursue her own musical vision, Mitsuru soon followed, and they had to bebuild. Amazingly, they did so without any loss in quality, finding Misaki and Ayumi on Guitar, and Natsumi, formerly of Telecide, to take over on drums (after a brief trial with another drummer).
    New Lineup:
    Kimi-vocals
    Haru-bass, growls/metal vocals
    Misaki-Guitar, audience left
    Ayumi-Guitar, audience right
    Natsumi-Drums
They have been experimenting with a variety of styles, dabbing in progressive and pop, but they still come back to their metal roots. In “Brave New World Revisited” (czcams.com/video/_6-OXcyMkYI/video.html) I think they’ve got a masterpiece. It’s also a tour-de-force for their brilliant young guitarist Ayumi. If this is their direction, they are going to re-emerge into the top tier of Japanese bands. I saw them live in London just after this lineup came together, and they were explosive, playing mostly stuff from the original lineup.

Good info, thanks! I don't think I've heard anything from this band aside from this video, but they seem pretty good. I'm not really a fan of symphonic metal. I prefer the old school thrashy ones like the one from 8 years ago that Champ brought up (think Lovebites MDO and Break the Wall). Got any recs for those kind of songs from Bridear? Thanks 😄

I recommend Hakoniwa which really demonstrates just how diverse & wide a lens Bridear can go. It"s off their 2016 Baryte album. Some of the lyrics translated goes something like this.
"My affection is deeper than my despair. I can't arrive at the answer, I confined my eternal feelings in my mind, Your tenderness brings pain to me.""Ideal is just an illusion. It turns into the ash before long.
Can I call it happiness?I don't want to think about that. Only one truth exists, enemy is myself." Yikes lol. 🙀💕 Song is deep and definitely worth checking out! 🤘🎸🔥

Agreed. For me the best song from their past period by far. More recently Bloody Bride, Ignite and Ghoul are different but quite close to their ancient style.
And their latest album "Aegis of Athena" is really good.

  • @PaulEngineer

Tanks Champ. For me this was one of the songs of the year when it came out - it had everything I needed in a song, and a few things I didn't know I needed until it hit me.

  • @thomasrotweiler
    @thomasrotweiler Před 2 lety +1

For me the song of 2021. Can be found on their latest album "Aegis of Athena". The new line-up is developing its own identity, they don't stick to metal but move in other directions as well. Makes for a more interesting listening experience when you listen to the album. I know some people prefer the heavier more metal stuff but my musical background is more pop / prog / punk /rock and they play those pretty well, as well as metal.

  • @not-so-great-oldone9780

Haru (bassist) is a great growler, plus she’s like 5’ tall, some commenters have called her the “demon doll”, check out “bathtub “, it’s her and one of the guitarists playing in a bathtub

As I'm sure you know by now, they’re scheduled to release their new album “Born Again” on June 28 (I've heard it and it's a banger.) They have gone through some changes but have always kept their hard, heavy, technical sound. They just posted a video single from the album: “Still Burning” czcams.com/video/v7UOTBAtJh0/video.html Looks like you are late to the party!

Bridear is pretty great! For me, the new album is where they really became one of my favorite groups. My favorite songs sadly don't have MVs. Ray of Chaos is an awesome groovy rock song with a fantastic riff and Side of a Bullet is a bit more of a progressive jam similar to this song. For older stuff, Light in the Dark, Ignite, and Ghoul are my favorites. Another more recent one, Bloody Bride is also really good. They are starting to get close to the Top 3 of my favorite Japanese girl bands. But since Band Maid and Nemophila are like 2 of my favorite bands period, that's pretty high praise from me.

    • @brunolheritier8829

Agreed. There are a lot of really good tracks on their latest album "Aegis of Athena". "Side of a Bullet" is one of them, truly an EPIC piece of music. For me too, Bridear also became one of my favorite bands all around with Nemophila, Gacharic Spin and more recently Hagane, especially because of their talent in songwriting (music composition and arrangement).

"Thread of light" is their best song. it is a real hidden gem. It is simple song, in a way, but it just sounds better every time you play it. In my books one of the best metal songs ever made, and I have listened metal since 80's... Hear it every day from my playlist..

Very underated j-female metal band. Not many reaction on this band. People should react more this band, too much band maid, nemophila & lovebites( not saying they are bad...) There's alot more bands in japan rock/metal deserve attention as well.
