@@stavmgoo1575 you should listen to it a bit more xd. The Wurlitzer intro is the same as in the album. My guess is that they're playing back almost all instruments minus the vocals and the sax.
The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is just a tourist attraction, it isn’t anything mystical and it doesn’t hold any authority over music. It’s not a crime, nor is it a shame that Super Tramp told their publicist not to bother with donating money to get inducted the R&R Hall of Fame. It’s nothing to worry about at all.
I totally agree. People are too distracted now. How many people will actually put an album on in a dark room with headphones and listen to the whole thing?
@@Eleventhearlofmars so why are they not even in the r'n'r hall of fame? I said they're up there WITH the Beatles, Zeppelin, Floyd. Can you see this scenario in front of you?
@@220773 the r n r hall of fame is not the best way to judge what is good. For instance the likes of NWA and Madonna are in it. Bands like Yes and Rush should have been in decades and decades ago.
I think I was 14 years old when I was turned on to Crime of the Century by my best friends older brother. Went out and bought the album and when I got my driver's license I had to buy the 8-track so I could listen to it in my beater Chevy. What a phenomenal album.
The musicianship in Supertramp was just ahead of time. Especially the keybaords and vocal talent of Rick Davies, check out how he calmly plays that white Wurlitzer electric piano! They don't make it like that anymore...

Always loved that intro. The keys and then the break and it goes into the guitar with the wah-wah, brilliant. More music in the first minute and a half than some complete songs today.
I really used to love it when, on the radio late 1970s (or later), that great intro would come on. I knew the great song was on the air, that intro is all anticipation.
The X-Ray effect goes on far too long (feels like MS figured out how to do it and wanted to show off a bit), but this is still one of the best live performances of this song that I've seen. Arrangements are spot on. Thanks!
Used to have a pair of Radio Shack stereo headphones, with antennae sticking up either side, (kinda alien looking) would go out at lunch and get fiercely high. First hour after lunch was study hall, and I would get LOST in this song!
One full year in high school I had study hall after lunch. At lunch we could walk from school to a few businesses in town. We usually went to the pool hall. Plenty of places to fire up including behind the pool hall. Our time at lunch would occasionally last through two periods depending upon which teacher monitored study hall.😊
Best band of all time, ive heard stuff through all genres and all ages and nothing comes even close to the variety and innovative genius of Supertramps music. Ill always love them and obsess over them, i wish i could attend a concert but alas i was born in the early 2000s so im afraid i cant
So frickin good. I ❤ this channel. One thing though. I’ve noticed that sometimes it seems mixed with the studio version a little. Does anyone else notice this? Like a Frampton Comes Alive situation or something. You can really tell on the second verse of this song.
How in the world did this type of specific progressive rock make it on radio??? Definitely different tastes back then...just so tasty...they were a very unusual band...two distinct frontmen
From what I’m gathering, quite a few performances were backing tracks where the vocals were live, or some performances were completely mimed, however i believe they had more live performances than mimed
Awesome! Definitely my favorite one that Roger doesn't sing. I wonder why they chose to use the album instrumental and verses but went with a live lead vocal on the chorus? I don't think I've ever heard a band do that.
@@beaudure01 Yeah but what I'm talking about is a bit different. Normally, a band will either: Use the original album version completely and mime, use an alternate take and mime, use the instrumental and sing live over it, or on the rare occasion, play and sing live. What Supertramp is doing here on this is they are using the original album version with the original verses but, singing the choruses live. The choruses could be alt takes but i'm pretty sure they are just singing them live. Either way, I've never seen/heard a band do that.

I know about the video effects,, but there is damage at the beginning with the visible scan lines, and glitching around the edges. The visual effects was a common thing back then, not the little white lines that are partially visible. Those appear during some tape being stuck (and he reason for baking the tapes)
Los efectos especiales al inicio de la canción parece un viaje de psicodelia 😂 pero fuera de broma este perfomance me encanta ojalá la pongan en mi funeral o en mi casamiento de lo contrario no me muero ni me caso jajaja
I do believe only Rick's vocal and the ending sax solo is performed live. The rest is the recorded track. The Special had many artists simply sing over the recorded song.
I think that this is some form of a hybrid version of the song, some parts seem different from the studio recording, Rick's vocals are slightly different and John's sax parts are different. This is certainly different from an actual live performance of the song that in my view lost its grit when played live. The version on the Paris album and later recordings fall into that realm. They kept this version shorter and tighter.
INCREDIBLE video/audio production!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Beautiful and artful yet NOT distracting and annoying like 95% of all videos now.. Annnnd.....What a great performance by Supertramp! Even better than the recording.
the colorization effect at the verse was so utterly cheap - but totally blew my mind! We've got 50 years of innovation and there is still no replacement for creativity. Love this band and this song!
Someone found the funky X Ray effect and didn't know when to turn it off. Incredible performance of a monster classic song
They are miming to the studio cut
I don't even have to listen to the studio cut to know this is live I have heard the album version so many times
they did the same thing to the Edgar Winter group
Yes, they are making it all about their caméras and spe il effectue, instead of the true art .. music. And try zooming out à bit

Much as I hate to say i, I think rock has become irrelevant. Oh, it's still out there, but, really hip-hop is the big thing nowadays. Posting 3-21-24.
