I’ve been listening to the LP albums & CDs of Supertramp since the mid 1970s, and I can safely attest to their music as being a pure and rare gem in the music industry. Thank you for sharing with us this masterpiece.
It's an embarrassment that this group is not in the Rock Hall. Crime of the Century is out of this world...
Still considered a ground breaking audiophile LP to this day.
Don't worry too much about the RRHOF. The place is basically Jann Wenner's ego trip. He refused to allow any kind of prog rock in for a very long time. I don't think he's still associated with it, so they have to catch up with all the groups he refused to consider.
It is the crime of TWO centuries that Supertramp are not in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Stupid, why them do not stay in Rock roll of fame ?
A travesty
Supertramp was probably one of the most underrated rock bands ever....
God I can’t believe this album is almost 50 yrs old what a masterpiece !
Thank you for reminding me how old I am! Lol. I would not have it any other way. Cheer's!
can't believe i'm sixty 😂
Yup.
Ooof we got OLD 😂
45 and grew up on this music.
Played this song for my girlfriend when she was 18 as she was going through a rough time, the words just resonated to her current state of mind, she was blown away by the song and it still one of her favourite bands, we married 2 years later and still going strong for past 44 years.
Love it!!!
Bravo ❤
Me too, great to open up feeling you thought you never had.😊😊
Great story. Nice to know this song impacted others the way it did me. Started to think maybe there was something wrong with me after almost 50 years😊
Great romance!
The one thing about Supertramp is they had a sound all their own, you could never confuse them with anyone else. I remember this album like it was yesterday, I loved the cover art and used to look at every detail of it while listening to the album. What a great time to be alive.
Son bandas que se esxtingueron no hay mas..un fenomeno..
You are spot on. Nuff said.
Sitting in front of the stereo on the carpet in your parents living room, being careful not to knock over your can of 7-UP. "I ALREADY DID TURN IT DOWN, MOM!!" sheesh...
Your bloody well right😊
This album was not only great music, it was coherent lyrics with incredible social commentary. I think it was their best work.
One of the most unique sounding bands ever
yeah ! every one of them was a master on his instrument ! (Hodgson with both guitar ans piano) and John Helliwell to me was a killer on sax !!
No band compared to them back then.. I mean during the 70's.. I 'm fan of the Sones, Genesis, Fleetwood mac and others but Supertramp were the Best !!
Agree
Agreed. Very operatic in style.
You are bloody well right!
Essa banda era estilo Toto. Não tinha apenas 1 vocalista na banda, alguns se revezavam
The 70's had so many fantastic bands.
There was so much emotion in the songs back then. And the songs would slowly build like waves on the beach
It's the last time mainstream artists were able to express themselves freely. Corporate put an end to that in the 80s.
its the single greatest decade of American music.
Listen to Leprous.@@nordicfrost
That glorious era when many bands were able to create unbeatable classics.
Paris is one of the best live albums ever - fabulous band!
Absolute MASTERPIECE, the drivel they churn out today In today's music is nothing short of criminal compared to what was made all those years ago in the 70,s It was very special
Both Rick and Roger crafted their songs so beautifully and the arrangement gave Bob and Doug room to drive them in the rhythm section and John to embellish with backing vocals and stunning sax solos.
Complete agree, the music today is just👹👹👹
Amen.
I went to see them several years ago at The Royal Albert Hall they were brilliant they all played different instruments and vocals. To days so called groups can hardly string 2 words together let alone write and sing songs.
No light-show, no theatrics, just musical excellence.
I guess we sometimes forget just how good Supertramp was! This will remind you!!
Well said!!
I never will, their music heard weekly in my collection. Just wish I could have seen them more times live.
Very underestimate group seen them at the Royal Albert Hall, several years ago. Absolutely brilliant😊😊
Well, some of you may have forgotton... 😜
Probably, the most underrated band ever.
Do you live in Canada?
They were very popular here.
hahahahaha underrated okay
In 1978, Crime of the Century was ranked 108th in The World Critic Lists, which recognised the 200 greatest albums of all time as voted for by notable rock critics and DJs.[
Omg that “word” again…😛
Where do you come up with your belief that the band is underrated?
The first four Supertramp albums are just phenomenal
Depends on what you define as the first 4. This was from the 3rd album of course.
@@DonMacGillivraythey’re probably going off of Spotify which doesn’t include the first 2 albums
@@spruce8611those first albums were interesting
@DonMacGillivray I'm guessing that he is probably referring to this as their first album, which for many people it was. Their first two albums didn't really dent the charts.
Agree 100%
This is pure gold, by a criminally underrated band.
Fun to see Roger and Rick sitting next to each other.
Why ?
Fun to find out that the bassist in this band and the PGA President in Happy Gilmore had the same name: Doug Thompson.
There will never be an era of rock as great as the 70s
State of the Nation is the State of the Art -bill nelson 79
Started in the 60’s, then 🚀!!
70's and 80's were unbelievable and mesmerizing.
You are so right !
One of my fave bands of all time!
As a teenager I felt pretty darn lonely and started playing piano by ear … managed to learn most of their songs after literally hundreds of hours of trial and error (I don’t read music).
Im 60 yrs old (happy with a wonderful life) and get to play/sing often in front of people … it would not have happened without this amazing band to inspire me!!
That’s fantastic to hear my friend. Hearing this after so long makes me want to tune up the fender….Cheers….
The Musicianship and Originality of SuperTramp is Extraordinary! An Underrated Band of the 70's!
Much like Racey and Smokie.
Crazy this was written in 1974. Everything about this song is genius
Absolutely brilliant! My favourite Supertramp song and it sounded just like the record. Just a shame Hodgson and Davies had their differences that could not be overcome.
It sound just like the record because it's a playback of the record with only lead vocals sung live.
Seems like that happens to a lot of great bands that break up. Their best work are the early albums.
É sonho de toda banda. Fazer sucesso, ganhar dinheiro e depois acabar.
@@nicktamer4969 Yeo. The saw is being "played" but no one is there playing it.
playback
These guys were greater than the sum of their parts. This was the real deal; no studio trickery, just pure talent on every front.
Sublime !
Crime of the Century is one of the greatest albums ever.
As a teenager when it came out I must have played it almost daily and it never gets old
I always used this album to test new bits of hifi - it was so well recorded, so clear
Roger Hodgson is an even more amazing singer now. We’ve had the opportunity to see him live and it was beyond amazing. His band is fantastic and as I’ve said, his voice is stronger than ever. He still hits those high notes with gusto and perfect pitch. I hope to see him again.
never ever ages...time makes it more enchanting.......
Phenomenal composers, and lyricists! The seventies music ....Too good too soon!
I loved Bob's drumming on this song, so many changes and he grabs the right space at the right time.
And Doug's awesome bass skills aren't too bad either!
One of the most underrated bands of the era
For me, having listened literally to thousands of popular music tracks in my 60 years here, the lyrics (together with the music) from 4:30 on, is amazingly spiritual and uplifting and emotional at the same time.
The "live" version on 'Paris' is even stronger I think.
Thank you, Supertramp, for these few heavenly minutes!
You're bloody well right...
@@k2k273 ...right, right...... 😇
Yes ! among all I've listened to during my "only"54 years of living, I consider This song, despite a few bunch of their others, as the best they did together, and one of th 10 best songs ever..
because of that perfect alchemy you talk about..
No, this is better.
@@kevinmcfarlane2752 You think.......
I saw them play this in concert. It was epic. Fantastic band. Spectacular, amazing, brilliant.
Five guys on that stage. Five guys made all of that music. Back in the day when I would play this song on my turntable I imagined an orchestra or at least many overdubs, but I now know that five expert musicians and singers did that. Amazing!
So true, I imagined the same thing,
Hide In Your Shell is definitely one of the best Supertramp songs, and this performance, wow.
The term Classic Rock might have been conceived for this song.
Tunes within tunes, emotional pulls that just won’t let you go, it’s just so good.
Thank you for posting.

The whole album is a masterpiece.
Comparto tu apreciación, me pasa lo mismo con la canción Dont leave me Now . Ambas canciones son geniales!
2024, still loving the midnight special
What a band with there own sound
So glad I experienced the 70s 😅😅
Hard to imagine producers, managers, etc. letting a band play a 7-minute, emotionally-fragile song on TV like that today - even if it was on at midnight. The sunshade looks like this was from the Crisis What Crisis promotion even though Hide in Your Shell was from Crime of the Century.
Crisis wasn't out yet -- they may not have even recorded it, as it was released five months after this aired. I love that they played a non-single on NBC of all places.
Uma banda extraordinária, até hoje emociona..
i'm tellin ya seeing Supertramp Live in the 70's was as close to a life changing concert you could get, pure Bravo Performance's. All such talented people.
I was going Signal School at Ft. Gordon Georgia when this came out. Great memories at officers club back then.
They looked wonderful by then!!!!
This song has the most perfect transition from verse to chorus.
I loved Supertramp and am so happy for this clip - can never listen to this song without crying, Never. Crime of the Century was the soundtrack of my teenage years. And yes, crying again. But music used to be soooo very good.
If this song doesn't fill your heart with warmth then go get one. Where does one even begin to write lyrics on a person's sub conscious thoughts. Such a masterpiece. Thank you Roger and Supertramp.
I just happened along this version by accident. I am so glad I did. I was transported back to when this album released. I remember buying a copy and listening to it for hours. Bitter sweet it is. Oh the memories.
It is magic ❤❤❤❤❤
Best Band ever
I was very troubled as a young man and when I discovered Supertramp, I didn't feel so alone. This is the song that got me the most and it gave me great hope my life would turn out better. And it did Thank You Supertramp
Been there.
Lived that.
A good life now. Too.
Datz Goot 👍👍
I saw them in concert back in 77 and was blown away.
Me too, at Wembley
Me in ‘78 can still picture them
Me too in Manchester 78 best concert I have ever been to.
Dudes nostrils were spotless 😮😮😮
Truly amazing band. I saw them live in Edmonton in 1979 for their Canadian tour of "Breakfast In America" I've seen lots of live concerts but that one was by far the best.
I caught the same show in Cowtown...instant fan forever.
Still one of my all time favorites Supertramp forever...❤
Great track from a great album still goose bumps
These guys were Super musicians and songwriting absolutely genius..a staple of the 70s
Being 15 when this song was created was a great luck
Oh how I wish I could go back in time and relive this era.
Buenisimo me encanta 💖 👏 ❤❤❤❤🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱
Remember seeing Supertramp in Stoke on Trent around 1975. Brilliant and probably my favourite Supertramp song
I remember buying COTC on a trip to London with a friend when we were 15. 50 years on and still good friends. Brings back great memories.
A masterpiece of a song from one of the greatest bands of the 70/80's. I'm very lucky to have seen them in concert and they were fantastic. Crime Of The Century one of the best albums made.
I used to love this show
One óf my favorite Bands
Such a killer cut
Oh great band
Timeless = Class
A truly beautiful song.... it surely did help some lost and lonely souls who found a new dawn, love and happiness ...
This is definitely one of my favorite songs of Supertramp , it's simply a beautiful one!
the best song ever!
YOU PLAY THOSE TUNES ROGER MY MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I met and talked with Roger before the concert with Ringo Starr and the All Starr band up in Vegas on 9/1/11. Of course I got him to autograph the ticket...which is framed and on my wall.
We saw Roger in 2020 at Mohican Sun, before the pandemic and he was top notch, still as great as ever.
The best song supertramp
*Absolutely epic backing vocals come in at the **5:40** second mark as Roger is belting out the lead vocals.*
*Crime of the Century is a masterpiece.*
Their best among many great songs imho..
Great song, great album. Love Crime Of the Century. The cure for pain was Love ❣️
One of their very best
Live at the Bataclan Paris is a must hear for everyone. Magnificent.
I discovered them when I was 16 back in 1977. They were all I listen to for years. Saw them live once in Rochester Ny 1979.
We had such optimism back then, the soundtrack of my youth make me realise how lucky we were, Todays music is so depressing in many ways, and the blame lays squarely with the music industry itself….
A true super group I still love their sound as much as I did as a young guy in the seventies, simply awesome ❤
Definitely have helped, and are helping! Seems music is all we have now. Love's gone sour, Peace? just a word. Music's a great comforter and healer, and few do it better than...Supertramp! Cool name, huh?😉
Anno 1976 . Amplificatore Marantz , giradischi Thorens td160 , testina Shure m75 , casse acustiche AR 3 e ......SUPERTRAMP.....perfetto!! Indimenticabili e indimenticati.
it brings back good memories. A show i saw with them, Chris De Burgh was the opening act and he was such a smash that the band asked him to join them for a late encore with all the lights on because the crowd refused to leave...memorable in Montreal.
It is a crime of the century Supertramp is not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
a band above most all.
This song and Crime of the century were my favorites when the LP appeared, excellent
Pure, Pure Genius!!!
Love the umbrella on the set. Homage to Crisis album cover.
Yes!
Actually I think the Crisis album cover was a homage to the stage set
Over the years since this album came out, my favourite song has changed numerous times, dreamer, school, crime of the century, etc., but for the last 6-7 years this song has been my favourite.
True that!
Totally agree
Supertramp-Crime O' The Century...One o' the greatest albums 'n best produced albums 'n incredible soundin' albums o' all time. Tell you...got me? I mean it man. Sho''nuff...
These guys need to be in the RRHoF and unite for at least one more tour.
Es mi banda favorita, y eso que a mis 60 años he escuchado mucho...
Tienen algo especial, son super creativos y talentosos. En "'vivo* fueron espectaculares.
For beginning, it's a godsend listening to this song. They have to keep on playing together because Supertramp is wonderful Band. This song is Nice.
The best progressive band ever. Please more of them 😊
Lyrics are genius. Beautiful message
GREAT song Super tramp remind me soo much of my student nursing days. Love it. Happy days and memories. Still play there album's. A student nurse gave me Crime of the century for repairing her hifi speakers.
Supertramp, super group. Should never be underestimated. Saw Roger at the Liverpool Philharmonic about 15 years ago. I would dearly have loved to see all the band in their glory. Absolutely phenomenal.
such rich & full sounding🎉🎤🎤🎤
Una superbanda, como me gustaría verlos ahora en 2024. Que se junten !!!
A rare look at these Masters when they were just starting out.
sensacional Doghie Thompson.Rick Davis.Roger Hodgson.
