  • Here are five things that will make your brew day a bit easier. They aren't the top five things you need by any means, but one or two of these ideas should help you out on your brew day!

    There is even a y adapter on the sink at OBB, and we have a large stack of the small containers 10 and 20 L (but probably dollar store ones) and are used for everything - grain, water adds, hops etc.

    I swear you were about to throw a VW Beetle in that cement mixer pan but it got edited out. Cheers James 🍻

    Pretty new to home brew started June 2021, do malt kits, and swear Spiedel fermenters. Well designed, easy to use clean, very durable. Definitely my best purchase.

      Nice, I might try one some day. I've been doing a bit bigger batches and they seem reasonable for the size. Cheers!

    I didn't even know those cement mixing trays were a thing. I'm totally going to pick up a couple. I've struggled with how to catch drops and dribbles when disconnecting lines from my pump and those will work great.
    My most helpful item on brew day is my refractometer. It allows me to check gravity without needing to wait for a large sample to cool down to test with my hydrometer.

      I just bought a cement mixing tub yesterday for mixing cement. Now I have to go back and get another one for my brewery! Great tip!

    Hey party time, thanks for the video, I'm going to get myself a couple of those cement mixing tray thingies on the back of it. Also, what grains do you bulk store? I have a pale ale malt, pilsner malt, vienna, munich and caramalt. Thinking of maybe a light crystal as well. I like to brew all styles, different things all the time.

    • @PartyTimeBrewing
      @PartyTimeBrewing  Před rokem

      Awesome! The cement things are great. I do mostly pilsner, pale and Maris otter. I've made the mistake of buying a 55lb bag of biscuit which will take too long to get rid of and a Vienna, which I've had for a year with no use but should hopefully try soon. Light crystal would be great for a smaller bin. It's great to have a lot but some stuff gets neglected... Cheers!

  • @wadeprue
    @wadeprue Před rokem

    Great video! I've been looking at buying a mill as my next bit of kit. Location specific question, but where are you buying bulk grain in NS? Noble/BrewHQ does not do full bags and getting them from the bigger Canadian homebrew spots would be spendy on the shipping side.

    • @PartyTimeBrewing
      @PartyTimeBrewing  Před rokem

      Brew/Noble do bulk bags, but the shipping I'm assuming is too high for 55lb bags. I bought a 55lb bag of pale there yesterday for $63. Also, if you're in the Halifax area look into the brewnosers.org homebrew club, you'll get a discount at noble/brewhq for joining and they do bulk buys a few times a year for some pretty good deals. Cheers!

    I have a question when I go to the boil phase should I boil pot top off or on. ??
    I’ve always boiled on but I have heard that off flavours are released during this phase

    • @PartyTimeBrewing
      @PartyTimeBrewing  Před rokem +1

      I'd leave it off. Top off was a bit more important with more unmodified malts from back in the day, so you might be ok with it on, but your safest bet is to leave the top off to decrease the chance of DMS (dimethyl sulfide) which supposedly tastes like cabbage. There may be more reasons, but that's the main reason I do it.

    My favorite purchase was my brew paddle, so I could rub my bottom. (The bottom of my kettle is, of course, what I meant..maybe. 🤣)

    • @PartyTimeBrewing
      @PartyTimeBrewing  Před rokem

      Nice, I'm assuming a wooden one? I'm using stainless, easy to use, but definitely a bit cautious on scraping the bottom. Cheers!

    • @BitterRealityBrewing
      @BitterRealityBrewing Před rokem

      @@PartyTimeBrewing Yes, Wood with cool hops cut into the paddle. I got it off of Etsy years ago, but the seller stopped. I was promoting another seller not long ago as he had really nice paddles, but I still prefer mine a great deal. It has slightly changed colors over the year but not by much. I might need to do a couple hundred dark brews to help darken it a bit more.
