How to Add Temperature Control to Your Fermenter | Chilling Coil Install on a Grainfather SF70

- Here's an easy way to add some temperature control to your fermenter. How to install the KegLand Temp Twister chilling coil in anything. Well specifically the Grainfather SF-70 fermenter. This install can be applied to buckets, all-rounders, other fancy stainless fermenters or really anything. This video shows how to drill a hole in a stainless steel kettle to install the chilling coil which uses Duotight fittings.

I'm not saying you're my favorite brewtuber, but if I've got choices of new videos to view and you're in the mix, I'm starting with yours. Keep it up my friend.
Thanks man! Guess I have to keep it up! Hopefully new vid tomorrow but I tend to never be on time. Cheers!
Great vid! I’m going to do this mod on my bucket buddy lid, I already modded my lid to add a 1.5 TC for pressure transfers.
That is definitely a great mod to do. I haven't done it yet, but I may add one to my 120L Speidel fermenter. Cheers!
Great minds think alike! I added the same heat exchanger to my fermenters. Great overview!
Nice! I just added one to a bucket tonight. So easy to do. Cheers!
Great Job !! and nice explanation on how to connect the chiller in the correct way, Cheers 🍻🍻
Yep, all it takes is getting it wrong once and you figure it out... Cheers!
That’s a great video. I really admire your approach to doing this and also showing the real challenges. Worse case $69.99 and start over. I was looking at the 70L fermenter but decided on a 50L conical brew keg and a big ass used fridge.
Nice. The 70L fermenters went on for 400 here, so it seemed like a good deal. You can never go wrong with a big ass fridge! Cheers!
Super chill
For sure!
I need that hat!!!
Just fly up here and I'll hook ya up! I need an Elementary T as well! Cheers!
I'm seriously considering doing the same with an Anvil Bucket Fermenter.
It makes sense. I think it would work a lot better than the small chill tube they sell to fit through the top. Cheers!
Do it! I just did it to mine. I haven't tested it yet, but I am excited for it. It looks like it will do a much better job at cooling than the small one made for it. Plus it frees up the center hole so you can use a tri clamp for pressure transfers and o2 free dry hopping!
I still need to invest in these duotight boys
They are great stuff! Cheers!
Nice set up! What was the rest of the set up for the temp probe and what did you use for the temp controller? Also did you use just plan water? I have an all rounder also, set up with the temp coil and thermo-well, I use a anvil temp controller and small pond pump in much the same way that you have set up, but I am thinking its time to make a few changes.
I used an inkbird for the temp probe. The fermenter already had a thermowell. For the chilling, I picked up a used glycol chiller a while back, so not so much diy on that one. I'd like to do a side by side sometime and compare using ice water vs glycol. Cheers!
@@PartyTimeBrewing Nice! I have no experience with glycol so I should maybe look in to it a little more. Also maybe look in to that fermenter. I looked at the links in the video but didn't see one for the pump and fittings.
more hose the better in my opinion
It might be short, but at least it's thin.
Hi, do you find there's too much beer waste on the sf70 Chonical below the racking arm. Did you extend ? What's your take on this issue ?
I haven't noticed too much waste, but I haven't really been dumping trub and yeast at all. I'll pay a bit closer attention next time and hopefully get back to ya. Cheers!
How do you get on cleaning and sanitizing the temp twister?
So far I've just set up my cf70 for clean in place with a spray ball. So just leave it in and it will clean that way with a blast of PBW and a good rinse. For my all rounder, I've just rinsed it pretty much, but if it gets good and sketchy looking I'd just soak it in a bucket of hot PBW or oxiclean. Cheers!
Man, what an amateur! Hooking up the feed line to the vertical pipe and not the coil!? I thought I tasted a non-homogenous chill in that blonde!
It ruined the whole batch!
