    I hadn’t realised the GC2 was quite so ‘dinky’. It would even work in my kitchen set up. Great video.

    Starting out on my home brewing the GRAINFATHER GC2 - Glycol Chiller might be out of my price range. But it’s definitely something I would be expanding on. Also, I like the way you went through connecting this up this will really help people figure out where everything goes. And for me, the best part is that it fits on the 30 little fermenter bucket as I brew small batches. Great video lads.

    Great demonstration video. I am a happy user of the GC4 since it was launched. One of my favorite features is the no-drip connections. I am using it with a GF conical and an F40. Compared to what you have shown in the video (for the Brewtools fermenter) I am using the Brewtools no drip connections. Just a small extra cost for the easier cleaning process and moving the unit around while not connected to the chilling lines. The GF or BT connections could be easily adapted to the New malt Miller SS bucket or a plastic bucket as well. I feel like the barb connections do not offer much flexibility

    Will the GC2 work in a cold environment unlike domestic fridges that need to be in a house and not in a cold garage. Nice to see all the options good informative video.

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před rokem

      All units that refrigerate don't really like the cold too much, that being said we have a few of the team here with GC4's in their garages and they don't seem to have any issues with them. I think it will depend on the extremes you're placing it mostly, a shed in the middle of winter vs a garage thats attached to your house will be very different

  • @CrazyAboutVinylRecords

    Temperature range? I don't recall seeing any discussion of how low this will go...but I may have missed it.

    • @themaltmiller8438

      The GF system will easily go to 5c but we have had some down to 2c, depending on the time of year.

    Makes me want to sell my GC 4. Wonder if it’s as efficient and if the noise is more or less. Also energy consumption??
    If it’s the same cooling and lagering power and less noisy just two ports I switch 😅

    How can I remove the water and glycol mix out of the Fermenter or cooling element without losing some water? Is that possible?

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před rokem +1

      I am not 100% sure what you're referring too but you can drain the Glycol water mix from the chiller, there is a drain port at the back. If you want to drain it from the chiller coil then after it's been disconnected you can turn it upside down to drain. Jacketed FV's like the brewtools one you can drain but uncoupling them from the hoses, although most people would want some form of shut off to prevent this and keep the glycol mix inside for the next brew. The Grainfather 30L one has a brass coupling which doesn't allow for draining directly but you can remove the brass fitting if you wanted to drain them. Hope this helps 🍻

    Is the glycol tank really big enough to fill that F80 jacket? I can see that needing topped up lol. Looks a really nice dinky glycol.

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před rokem

      Generally when you add a second FV to these chillers you will always need to to top up the glycol mixture. The GF30's need about 400-500ml more added so the F80 would likely need about double that, possibly a little more.

    Hi guys. Great video. Can you see any issues with connecting the GC2 to a fermzilla gen3? Particularly interested to check that the heat pad would be ok on the thin plastic?

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před rokem +1

      Without testing it on a fermzilla it's hard to say but in theory it would be fine. If you have the chiller coil for the fermzilla to attach the coolant hoses with. The heat pad works on a plastic fermenter bucket perfectly so again I see no reason why this wouldn't work but as with all things bespoke you may want to do some research first 👍🏻

  • @joshuapinter
    @joshuapinter Před rokem

    Don't you have that backwards?
    You want COLD IN to go at the top and then HOT OUT to go at the bottom. This way the coldest glycol is hitting the hottest liquid first and then moving towards the colder liquid as it warms up. This should provide a more stable and even distribution of temperature.

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před rokem

      Hey! Just double checked, Grainfather advise for maximum efficiency to connect the cold in pipe to the bottom inlet.

    Hi everyone, does someone know the refrigerant type of liquid used in this device ? R134a, R290 ? Is it able to cold crash one conical fermenter while stabilising another one at 18°C ? (Room temperature about 22°C / 30liters fermenters)

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před rokem

    Nice video, thanks! I'm seriously consedering buying this toy. I have just one question. Is it capable to cold crash 2 GF conical fermenters in parallel (with ambient temperature about 22 C) or would you recommend the bigger brother for this purpose?

    Does the gca heating pad fit on the cone of a miniuni+?

    • @themaltmiller8438
      @themaltmiller8438  Před 5 měsíci +1

      If you had the MiniUni+ hung on the wall, you would be able to attached it more or less but when it's on the stand it might be more tricky. The MiniUni, unjacketed version, it would be fine with but then you have the issue of no cooling option yet

      @@themaltmiller8438 when it's on the stand it might be more tricky. Would it be possible or not?
      I have two gf30's so on my gc4 I have two slots left for hopefully a miniuni+. But all stands or falls wether the heating pad fits.
