Paul sang the song live on Ed Sullivan's show, {the video you showed), just a moment before he sang 'Yesterday', on the show, a theater worker told him that over 50 million people are watching him. Imagine walking on stage and knowing you are being watched by that many people and you've got to sing all by yourself, your beautiful song 'Yesterday'. He didn't show a single sign of fear or nervousness, he sang from his heart, and won over America, even John Lennon said right after Paul's performance, "that was just like him", John loved Paul's voice and incredible talent. Ever since I heard and saw the Beatles in a 'live' concert, I've loved them as extended members of my family as adopted brothers. You couldn't do better than the Beatles for perfection and authenticity. They lighted up all of our lives. Greatest group ever, and I'm a 100% dedicated Rolling Stones fan too.

The melody of this song came to Paul while he was sleeping.
The melody to “Yesterday” came to Paul McCartney in a dream. He woke up and stumbled to the piano by his bedside to work out the chords. “I just fell out of bed, found out what key I had dreamed it in…and I played it.” ... It could only have happened to McCartney at the place and time it did.

IIRC at the end of the performance, Ringo comes on stage and presents a bouquet of flowers to McCartney, presumbly from a fan. A stage hand was about to assist opening the curtains so nothing would go wrong. He ask Paul if he was scared and Paul lied and said "no". Then the stage hand said "You should be. wherever it was, the piss-my-pants mode was likely true to some degree - IF, in fact, he was playing totally solo when the Beatles were still together - '65 or thereabouts - OR did they just go off stage to let Paul have his solo moment without an orchestra in tow??? One of many top shelf songs from them, this one has a bit of a Tchaikovsky influence I think, with the string swells. "She's Leaving Home" is another melody from McCartney that you won't be able to get out of your head. There's no known cure.

The entire melody came to him in a dream. But the words came later. His working title was "Scrambled Eggs" something about a girl with great legs. Maybe John or someone else nixed that idea but eventually he wrote the classic song we know. I'm guessing it was inspired by Jane Asher. It made people take the lads from Liverpool seriously.
Many years later Kelsey Grammer wrote his theme song about scrambled eggs and tossed salad (strange combo) "they're calling again"
    Good Night Seattle!
