“In 1964, The Beatles produced an act of defiance which ultimately made a huge step toward fighting racial segregation. The band, with thousands of people waiting with bated breath, refused to play a show that had split the audience by race without their consent.
Showing their support for the US civil rights movement, the iconic Liverpool four-piece refused to perform to a segregated concert at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. As the pressure of The Beatles’ act of defiance threatened to boil over, officials at the concert eventually allowed the segregated audience to merge together.”
Upon entering the stage, John Lennon said: “We never play to segregated audiences and we aren’t going to start now.” I’d sooner lose our appearance money,” he added.
In 1964. These guys were real ones.

@@symplytraciereacts I’d suggest reacting to blackbird by the Beatles. This is what Paul McCartney had to say about it. “I had been doing some [poetry readings] in the last year or so because I've got a poetry book out called Blackbird Singing, and when I would read "Blackbird", I would always try and think of some explanation to tell the people … So, I was doing explanations, and I actually just remembered why I'd written "Blackbird", you know, that I'd been, I was in Scotland playing on my guitar, and I remembered this whole idea of "you were only waiting for this moment to arise" was about, you know, the black people's struggle in the southern states, and I was using the symbolism of a blackbird. It's not really about a blackbird whose wings are broken, you know, it's a bit more symbolic”

This song is in the Guinness records as the most coveted song in history. It has been covered/recorded over 2000 times. A very beloved song, worldwide. Paul McCartney woke up one morning with this song in his head. He thought he’d heard it before. After weeks of singing it to everyone he knew, he realized it was his own composition. The other Beatles didn’t think they could do much with it, so their producer arranged for a string quartet to accompany him. His producer had a Master’s degree in music, and worked with Paul on the accompaniment. Stunning song!

This is the most recorded (covered) song in history. McCartney woke up one morning with the tune in his head. The working title of the song was Scrambled Eggs. Once it was done, he took the acetate to every one he knew and played it, asking if he had accidentally plagiarized it, because it was so easy to write. Similarly, he woke up one morning after having a dream about his mother, Mary, telling him to just let it be. You can figure out which song he wrote after that.

Paul found this tune running through his head. He thought that it was a song that another artist had done and kept asking his mates ; "what is this tune from? Who did it?" The answer was always that they had never heard it before! Finally Paul sat down to put the whole melody together on his guitar (Paul could not read or write music at this time!). For lyric, initially he used: "Scrambled eggs- I love toast and jam with scrambled eggs..." just to get the melody down. Later he developed the actual lyric for the song. This song is the most covered song ever written in the world! Over 2,200 bands, orchestras and solo artists have recorded this song to date. Quite extraordinary!

"Yesterday" is a singularly beautiful song. What a gift from Paul McCartney! Hey, if you want to have your mind blown, you should listen/react to the very next song that Paul and the Beatles recorded, on the day they recorded Yesterday. The song is called "I'm Down" and it shows you Paul McCartney's range as a singer and composer. Whereas Yesterday was poignant, somber and sweet, "I'm Down" is an absolute banger! It's a rocking rager and Paul's vocal is off the chain! Listen to "I'm Down" next and get ready to ROCK! Woo!

Paul said it took him years to realize this song, which appears to be about a painful but fictional break-up, actually was his way of addressing the death of his mother; she died of breast cancer when he was 14. "Why'd she have to go?" The line "I said something wrong" refers to what Paul blurted out when he heard she had died: "What'll we do without her money?" It took only an instant for him to be horrified at himself, but it was too late; he had said it, because, unusually for the time, Mrs. McCartney's salary as a nurse was higher than Mr. McCartney's salary as a cotton salesman
