    This would be what I would buy when the time comes. I had a 1995 Silverado Extended Cab, 350 engine. Over 400,000 miles. I sold it and the guy that bought it is still driving it. Bought a 2005 Silverado 4 door in ‘07 with 70,000 miles at the time. It couldn’t be financed so I got a great deal. It’s an LS with the bulletproof 5.3 engine. I’m at 200,000 miles and the only thing I’ve replaced is a battery and a water pump. The water pump was only $130 and I was able to finish the job in right under an hour. I've owned several Fords but I've been highly disappointed with the VCT 5.4.... amongst other issues (which all seem to be common problems). My 04 and 07 F150s were just horrible trucks. I love Ford's styling but I've found more reliability and less maintenance with GM's simple OHV engines. Working on my OHC F150 is a nightmare compared to GMs OHV. I hope Ford has vastly improved them....the 97-03 truck was very solid.

Fuel returns are not good and several with constant waste gate issues (a cable trench company in particular). Ecoboost maybe be a great occasional hauler but maybe not meant to tow heavy loads everyday.

    It's tough cross shopping these trucks because they package so differently and price varies dramatically when you spec them. The Ford ecoboosts seem problematic after warranty and the 3.5na is under-powered compared to the GM 4.3 V6. I'm a fan of the Ford 5.0 which sounds good but not as efficient as the GM 5.3. Trucks are more prone to body damage and steel is cheaper to repair. The RAM is built in Mexico and Hemi engines not efficient but sound really good but I have little faith in Dodge reliability. So many decisions to consider and it's actually great to have these choices. With year end discounts of up to 10k it;s a good time to buy. I like the Silverado 5.3.

      igotwhips agree about the 5.3. I have an ‘05 with 200,000 miles. In all that time I only had to replace the water pump. I was able to replace it myself in just under an hour. My Dad has a King Ranch F150 with the 5.0. It sounds great and is fast but is also much more complex. The thing that drew me to the 5.3 was it’s simplicity. It still uses a traditional cam in block, has an iron block, 4 bolt mains, etc. it’s just an incredibly robust design. In all the time I’ve had it the truck has never even thrown a check engine light. My Dad’s 2012 F150 has needed several sensors replaced and seems to be throwing a check engine light all the time. In its defense I don’t think it’s ever left him stranded though

    This about yo be moved to retro 😆 🤣 😂 I love my truck and it's nasty sounding exhaust 144j and counting. next one will be a 6.2 . If i could change something I lt would be cylinder deactivation as cool as it sounds it doesn't sound healthy when the 4 dead heads cold start while driving. only custom exhaust will let you hear those heads. truck was wayyy to quiet before borla atak catless straight pipes true dual.

    I hear the same excuse from Dodge owners over and over. Why the hell would Ford or GM copy a truck that gets out sold on a scale of about 2 to 1year after year? That is the one of the poorest excuses for mediocrity.

    an aluminum hood ? no thanks, if I purchase a vehicle I prefer that the whole entire vehicle be made of steel including the engine block and chassis.

    • @KiloByte72
      @KiloByte72 Před 10 lety +8

      So you want steel just because it's steel? That's silly.

    • @BeverageGuzzler
      @BeverageGuzzler Před 9 lety

      KiloByte72 The reason I would prefer steel is because it's the most common and abundant of metals produced and thus for helps to maintain jobs and support an industry when used for auto manufacturers and other businesses. Another reason is because steel is known to be a little stronger and a heavier metal than aluminum, that's why I want any vehicle that I purchase to be made of it. Aluminum on the other hand is a lightweight metal used for specific purposes. The Italian auto maker Ferrari for example uses aluminum to make their cars because the company once intended for their cars to be solely used for racing only, before Enzo Ferrari the company's founder decided in 1947 to make his cars available for purchase to the general public rather than just specifically for racers. Ferrari is a car company in which started out as making racing cars only and thus needed the light weight material to ensure the cars performance ability because of it's origin and heritage based on an emphasis on speed and performance that still persists with the company today. Even though their cars are made available for purchase to a broad audience today, they didn't start out that way. Other auto makers such as Ford specifically made some specialty models of their cars to be used for Nascar racing in which most of the cars structure was made of aluminum. One such example is their 1963 Ford Thunderbolt if I remember the name of it correctly, this specific car that was manufactured by Ford was just basically a hot rod Ford Galaxy but by another name. The car's body was made of aluminum as well as the chassis and engine if I'm not mistaken whereas the regular Ford Galaxies that were mass produced for the general public of that year were made of steel. So, as you can see, aluminum is a lightweight metal that's used for speed and performance, that's why most high performance car companies with a racing heritage use it to make their cars. Since I'm not a racer nor interested in speed but just want to get from point A to point B that's all and not having any desire to put the pedal to the metal, I don't see any need to have an aluminum vehicle or any part of it made of aluminum, so steel would be just fine for any vehicle that I purchase to serve it's purpose when I'm shopping for one. Now you understand.

    5.3 engines are oil consumption hogs. These body styles are notorious for Chevy shake. Buyers beware.

    And 6 years later this truck is nothing but a rust bucket with holes above the fender Wells and Rockers that you can see through. Chevrolet does not know how to build a good truck that lasts. Might as well have bought a Dodge.

    Dodge is the better of the truck. It looks better, rides like a sports car, and can tow more then any of these other trucks with that cummins engine. I know so many people who have owned Fords for years who have switched to Dodge.
