    Please let Toyota know that consumers in the USA WANT the option of
    the Touring Sport Wagon version of the Corolla! There is definitely a market for a small practical wagon here. Thanks for all your work, and efforts. Appreciated!

      @szokuspokus
      I realize that but then again we don't get most A class cars in the USA
      only a few like the Smart Car, Fiat 500. Instead we have hordes of people buying huge pick up trucks and they don't even really utilize them for the purpose they were designed. The worst part is that if you drive a normal sized vehicle you can't even see over or past these huge behemoths while making turns at intersections, ect.

    • @Emissary52
      @Emissary52 Před 5 lety +3

      watershed44 - I second your opinion. The Europeans have some really nice wagons to choose from. Here in the U.S., we'll never get the Corolla wagon. Toyota expects us all to buy RAV4s, on which, they make more money. The USA is abandoning the car. SUVs for everyone! It's a shame!

    Driving fast on the German motorway.... I had to laugh a lot. When you take the 3 from Arnhem to, say, Stuttgart or even on to München, you are in a constant StauBaustelle-80BeiNässe-LKWStau-Baustelle-Lärmschütz-6%-Zone, and effectively you can "go fast" about 5% of that trip. It's hilarious.
    Compare that to the French Peage, where you can set the clock on 135 in Lille and basically not brake until Bordeaux, and it sure feels like you go faster on any motorway you can humanly find outside of Germany. :)
    That said, nice review. Quite thorough.

    I had a 2017 C-HR hybrid 1.8 for 18 months and enjoyed it, but recently replaced it with a 2019 Corolla 2.0 hybrid estate as needed more space. I test drove the Corolla estate in both 1.8 & 2.0 versions. For me the 2.0 was the choice as it’s just more refined, quiet & certainly quicker. Battery is not under the floor in the estate as mounted to the side so luggage capacity not reduced like it is in the hatchback.

    Thank you for the very comprehensive introduction to this Hat Trick of new Corollas. Ideally we would have seen the 1.2 turbo in action as well but I understand they were not available when this testing event took place. I am also grateful that you really emphasized the practical deficiencies that result from Toyota's 'style' choices with the new hatch. Toyota's dubious decision to use a shorter wheelbase for the hatch is really difficult to grasp as it severely restricts rear passenger space and diminishes ultimate cargo capacity. Surely the Touring Sports has to be the best choice for a happy, long-term ownership experience. On this side of the Atlantic, we are hoping Toyota has the brains to bring us the wagon to complete the full range of consumer choice. Lastly, may I state how refreshing it is to see a taller reviewer for a change. People who are 5 feet 5 inches tall will rarely have an issue with head or leg room. #SaveTheWagon #WeWantWagons

      @@Grk149 The hybrids don't have a launch gear, they don't need it, the bigger motor handles acceleration with instant torque. The continuous variable transmission is achieved by modulating the power in the smaller motor, so it's even simpler than a manual transmission.

My own car is a Mitsubishi Lancer 1.8 Intense with 143 HP and I always liked it very much and never had any problems with it. BUT, when I drove this TS my eyes got opened. I always was afraid of an automatic, but with this TS it felt like as easy as possible, I must admitt, it took my heart. This is a great comparison, and for me the TS is still the absolute winner, love the design but also love how it drives................AND...........comparison......My Mitsubishi 1.8 uses 1 liter of gasoline in 9 km on small roads, the TS uses 0 (NOTHING)!!!.........However, 41.000 euro's here in the Netherlands, that's a lot of money!! If I did not buy the grandlandX for my wife, And if I settled on cedan (we only have cedan Corolla sold here in Egypt), the Corolla 2020 will be definitely my choice. Although it is only available here as 1600cc naturally aspirated old engine, but it would be OK since here the heat and dusty roads and extremely heavy traffic would be disanvatage for the new high tech engines and transmissions!

    Great review as always! Big step up in just about every way for the Corolla compared to the previous generation. Very nice looking car, my only issue is their choice of headlight design on the sedan. Hatch and estate look much better. I think if I had to choose one, I’d probably go for the estate and usually I’m not a fan of estates. But it looks great and obviously much more practical. I’d probably go for the extra power from the 2 litre hybrid too.

    Thomas and co are the best. No one else points out the finer details like him. I never knew the two tone roof was foil which is pretty lame at the price they are charging, still it’s not an option that would interest me personally as long as the money has been put into quality and refinement.

    Congrats for the best online review on the new Corolla!
    Regarding the 1.8l motor, have you observed the threshold upon which the combustion engine takes charge over the electrical? Is it also 55km/h like in the 2.0l? Thanks.

    The new generation Corolla does look aggressively styled, I was looking to sign for the hatch, but the dealership don't offer it here.

      yes, toyota took an unconventional way of implementing a first gear that helps to launch the vehicle from standstill, thus negating one of the downsides of CVT.

    I quite like the styling of the new Corolla. Especially the hatch looks really good in this red colour. Interesting that Toyota decided to give up some practicality to get this look. Toyota was usually practical but rather boring to drive and look at. They turned it upside down here! :-)
    The interior is quite good, but I feel there is some room for improvement there. I am totally with you with regards to the light interior, it makes things look much better in my view.
