    I've had the utmost respect for the Mazda 3, so my hopes were high for this upgrade. My sense, based on this fine review, is that Mazda has done better than I expected. The biggest surprise for me is the styling of the sedan. It is flat-out gorgeous and "classic" in looks. Well done, Mazda . . . and Thomas.

    Even though mazda is not considered a premium brand,
    They think and make their cars like a premium brand

    • @tmh44
      @tmh44 Před 5 lety +19

      Yes my understanding is that they benchmark their cars against cars in the premium segment (ie the Mazda 3 is built to compete more with a BMW 3-Series than a Honda Civic), so they typically land closer to the premium brands...they are also usually a little more expensive than the Corolla, Civic, etc, but as a multiple Mazda owner I believe the price is justified.

      @LexVVTiS300 Před 5 lety +4

      Have you driven a premium car? Or have you driven a 2-3yr old Mazda? They are not premium! Sure they look that way on the internet and brand new but once you own for a year or two you realize all the style comes at a remarkable cost.
      The build quality and material quality in Mazdas are poor! The screen quality/ back up camera are some of the worst in the industry. The "leather" seats and padding on dash that they give you at such a LOW cost buckles, power seat motors become noisy and crackly, the list goes on.
      And don't expect any dealer to give you too dollar on a trade as the resale value is laughable! You can find top trim preowned Mazdas for same price as similar condition base model Toyotas, even VWs (I guess that's the only thing that makes them a premium car)

    • @peterambrose2148

      @@LexVVTiS300 gotta disagree with all of this. Personally I've owned many premium vehicles including Porsche, Lotus, BMW, Acura, etc. I also recently leased a 2015 Mazda 3 as a daily driver and it held up exceptionally well, zero squeaks or rattles, zero issues, and only cost $150 to maintain for three years. Before leasing the 3 I drove the 3 Series, A4, C Class, XE, etc and went with the Mazda as the ergonomics we're excellent and it handled nicely. The rest was icing on the cake.

    Thanks for the review. I recently bought the US version of the hatch (manual) with 186 horsepower and torque SkyActiveG. Coming from German turbo cars, there have been some adjustments for me to make. At first I was disappointed about the engine performance but after "learning" its Naturally Aspirated engine (and installing a performance Air Intake), I'm having a blast in revving up the engine and getting enough power in all situations. That's the fun factor that most C-Class, 3-Series and A3 cars are missing these days. Also, they say it's better to drive a slow car fast, than a fast car slow!
    Regarding the ride quality, it is good, but it definitely feels less solid and refined than my previous German cars. For example, I can sometimes feel a bit of vibration under the pedals, shifter, etc. Also stock dampers are a bit too stiff around the city potholes and I'm considering replacing them. On the positive side, Mazda parts are half the price of the German ones!

    Great photography. Kudos that Front Assist, BLIS and HUD is standard on most specs! Nice interior quality, and like the bright Mazda interior option. Great driving part, commentary and driving as usual. Lovely manual gearbox, it seems. Mazda3 interior too cramped for me, but snazzy styling of hatchback! Many thanks Thomas and Team.

    I absolutely love the design of the hatchback. I feel like they could possibly add an extra window or wrap the rear hatch window around to the sides a bit more for better rear side visibility.

      @@autogefuehl the 2.0L engine here in our country has 155 hp.. i dont know why its only 122 in the review.. is it really not the same engine or just the difference in measuring HP?

    Great review as always Thomas. I currently have a 3 sedan. But I am now leaning more towards the new hatch. Love the look and stance of it. I can't wait to see one in the flesh when it arrives here in Australia in April. I am glad that blind spot monitoring is coming standard on all models here though.

    I just tested this very nice car. My opinion - C pillar shape is not a problem for visibility, especially for those who drove a lot Focus II hatch )
    In fact, the space behind the C-pillar can be perfectly controlled via the side mirror. The blind spot not visible in the mirror is exactly space opposite to the rear passenger window (as with any other car). Sure, blind spot assist is nice here and useful. Sure, the shape of the C-pillar requires some experience, but the blind spots of this hatch can be controlled the same as with any other hatch.

    Very good and comprehensive review, as usual. Mazda have stepped up their game quality wise. I think the new Mazda 3 looks awesome, especially the sedan. Looking forward to the Skyactiv-X sedan review. Keep up the good work!

    The interior reminds me of bmw e36 , nicely and luxuriously reinterpreted ofcourse. That is a smart move from mazda, considering that the target customers are the 90's kids that use to admire the e36 :)

    i test drove both the hatch and sedan. On video the sedan looks much better but in person it is a bit plain. In person I much prefer the hatch and has an entire different look. Also prefer driving the hatch as although it should be the same experience, the compact sport feel makes a difference

    I love this vehicle. I see some Alfa Romeo Brera influence when I look at the rear of the hatch. I said this before: I think Mazda should offer the SkyActiv Turbo engine, all wheel drive, and a manual transmission on all of its models.

      You see Alfa Brera influence, I see upgraded Alfa Brera with 4 doors. Unfortunately it's not done good imo. The sedan looks more beautiful.

    Another great review coming from Clark Kent on one of the best looking car on the market today. Period. I own the 2011 Mazda 3 DISI 2.0 151 HP with the 6 speed manual transmission and i love it. I am interested: does the new Mazda 3 have rev-matching? You shifted on the Autobahn and the car didn't even blink. Why do you think Mazda went (again) with a naturally aspirated engine with so few HP instead of fitting a Turbo?
