OK
I always try to douse those buggers if I see them in the comments.
I have several drones including the Air 2s. There is something about flying my Phantom 4 pro that keeps me coming back to it. Sort of like driving an old Corvette. It is an iconic drone that remains quite capable even by todays standards. I would love to see a Phantom 5. Thanks for the great video!
Yup I have 6 drones and my P4P V2 gets the call every other flight. Its just that good. My air 2s is great for packing it around, but the Phantom is nice right out of the car.
Yeah me too, my p4p is my loved one.
I perfer the camera and ability to fight wind with the phantom, the rolling shutter provides better image quality while making moving shots. Especially with low light.
Thank you so much for the history lesson!! An old friend of mine got me into drones back in 2016/2017 and he had a Phantom 4 Pro and I was amazed by it… my very first drone was a Phantom 3 Gold but later I got the Mavic Pro Platinum I would tell him…. “The Mavic is the future for DJI, ill be surprised if they ever make another Phantom” and we would go back and forth on it him loving his Phantom and me Loving my Mavic…it seems my vision was right and even now in late 2023 there is not a Phantom 5. But I still fly my Mavic Pro Platinum and DJI Spark he bought for me all those years ago. If a Phantom 5 ever comes to light he will never see one, so a tribute and a Thanks to you Michael E K. May you rest in peace.
This is just one of the many reasons why I love your channel, Steve! Amazing amount of background/information/commentary of a particular drone/company/model development in an amazingly short time. Love what you do and say! And you do it all in the frozen tundra of the north - in temperatures that would kill us, mere mortals. Thanks for all the content! Cheers!
Thank you kindly
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Awesome Story about the phantom line. I'm still watching Steve, Good Job 👊 💯
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 Steve, now they are asking someone else to text them.
;I wonder what we all won! lol And all they want is my Amex number!
I still own and fly my Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 at least 4 times every week. Love the amazing camera and the ability to fly without GPS on this drone. A Phantom 5 will be awesome. Thanks for an interesting presentation.
Thanks for the history lesson….very cool to learn about these past drones….I’ve got a mavic air 2 which was my first drone.
I still fly the Phantom 3 pro/std. It’s something about flying this type of body of drones that makes it so much fun.
Still flying my Phantom 3 Pro. It was a gamechanger, the whole package in one box.
Now flying it over the sea several times a week. Got 2.5miles at max range.
I think there's room in the market for a p5. Have utility camera options. Base model with a 4k 60fps camera. Options for a 4/3rds camera and even a LIDAR/IR Camera.
Ps: give me your p4 Pro 😃
Dji really needs to bring the tripod flying mode to the mini 2 software!
Thank you very much captain for the historical review of the DJI phantom. Was nice to get memories back when it all began.
This is the first time I’ve ever really seen this type of drone in action. It’s really neat to learn about the history of the Phantom line. This video was very good! Thank you and stay warm up there!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thank you for the comments.
Captain Drone this piece of history of the DJI Phantom was so enriching and interesting! I would love to see more of this kind of learning jewels!! Thank you!!
I bought two different off brand drones to practice with as I was a beginner years ago and although I bought one years after the other, neither one worked as well at all… especially the second drone which resembled a Maverick, the first one resembled the Phantom. Needless to say I’m still a beginner but I hope that all changes for me in 2024 as I plan on buying a good used drone and searching CZcams to learn more. Captain Steve, I watched your videos a few years ago and am glad you’re still making quality drone videos so thank you, By the way I have at named Captain.
Thanks for checking out the videos
Phantom series just seems to behave the best in the air! I have the 4 and I love flying it!
Spot on i live in a coastal area in Sweden and its windy but it is very steady and stable.
Best DJI Phantom history review out there! Excellent work!
My first drone was a Phantom4... and what it killed my desire for it was the size... i love the Air2S so much more... because is so much easier to transport.
I like the phantom series drones. The phantom 4 and pro are the best. Great features and video quality.
Hopefully soon the phantom 5 will come out.
Thank you so very much Steve and God bless you all everyday 🙏. Thanks for bringing back a classic memory
I would love a Phantom! They are what started it all! They are big, heavy, and they fly great in the wind! I think they are awesome flying machines. That is great you have one Steve. Drone envy once again!
🇨🇦Just for fun, I just picked up a Phantom3 Advanced in great shape from a pawn shop just north of T.O. For $150.00 CDN.
Came with two in good shape batteries and the DJI back pack. Back in the day the backpack went for over $200.00 and the Phantom for around $1500.00 I saw it in the shop and said to the owner wow now that’s an antique!🇨🇦
I used to have that drone back in the day and many of my early vids in this channel were shot with it. Great deal!
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 yes, not too bad of a purchase, now I just have to watch out for the “Phantom flyaway” you talked about in another video you did.
Excellent job Steve on the history of the Phantom series. Keep up the great work
Another of your great, concise, informative videos. Really appreciate the history lesson. Cheers.
O Captain! My Captain! This was an super rundown. My first drone was a Phantom 2 Vision+ and I used it to launch my mapping business. I later transitioned to the 3 and 4 models as they came out and finally to the P4 RTK which I still use today as it is simply reliable. I still have my P4P V2 as I often use it with the Goggles RE for site inspections and exploring. While I have a wide variety of drones, I still come back to the Phantom because of its reliabilty and its simply a great bird to fly. Stay Awesome!
Thanks for sharing the history. Great video.
Thank you very much for showing your love for the Phantom. I still love my Phantom 4 Pro, but I also fly a Mavic Air 2.
I still fly my Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 at least twice a week manual mode, brilliant camera. Everything about this drone is awesome. I would love a Phantom 5. Thanks for the interesting presentation.
Great drone story! Fantastic tutorial video and creation! Very informative! Thank you so much for sharing! I wish you and everyone a happy day and weekend full of strength, health and peace!
👍🍀🇭🇺🌞☝️
Great video I loved it. It's so well done !!!!!! Keep making this type of video !!!!
Thank you
I'd just like to say thank you very much for this video, for those of us who are relatively new to drones this was fascinating to watch. If you get the chance to do more history vids it would be very appreciated
Thank you
Thanks for this video and telling stories about DJI's history. Happy Fly!
Hey Cap! You are an amazing source of historical and current information! Then coupled with a demo flight of the 2016 Phantom iteration, really put this video over the top!!! Thanks so much. I really learned a bunch! JP
Thank you for the comment. Glad you enjoyed it.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 The P1 was shockingly successful, when in the first 30 days we were filling a container in Shenzen every 18 hours just for the US. For the crazy true story check out The DJI Story, a documentary that's about to come out.
Thank you for this piece of history!!! :)
The Phantom 2 was my first love. She will always be special to me.
Great and informative video Cap... Thanx
I love the history, awesome job. Really enjoying.
I like indoor Steve 😌 he’s more relaxed when he’s at home 🥴
Thank you for the excellent content on your channel. You were the key factor helping me decide which drone to buy (Dji mini 2 fly more combo). My second drone ever.
My first was back in 2014. Parrot AR 2. 🙂
Keep up the good work
Thanks again Cap! I have a Phantom 2 Vision+ and still learned a lot!
Love your videos👍Keep up the good work.
Great history lesson! Always wanted a Phantom, but when I did finally dip my toes into the hobby, I went straight into FPV and racing mini quads. Sometimes I still wonder how cool it would have been to fly a Phantom....
Great video Captain !!! Enjoyed listening to the history. Phantom 3 standard was my 1st.,
Excellent history of DJI and the Phantom line. I still fly a P4A to take mapping shots. Works great although it does need to be compass calibrated before each flight. Thankfully there are aftermarket batteries available to keep these birds in the air until....
Very interesting upload!
Cheers from Bucharest Romania!!
Great vid as always. Love my P4P V2, fly it with my Mavic drones all the time.
Very nice video Captain
Awesome history of DJI Phantom 👍👍
Thanks for a very nice video - Captain 😀
Nice history lesson Steve. Was interesting how the acronym DJI came about. I never knew that. Wow....glad your your having a heat wave and starting to get back to spring.
It actually means "great frontier" in English
Great video! Thanks
It's been a long time since I left you without a dope drone to step to step to step to
Great vid. Much appreciated
Awesome history lesson.
EXCELLENT vid...great info.
Looks cold have fun
Excellent history lesson of the DJI Phantom & the company DJI. 🥇
A black phantom 5 would look amazing!
would buy a phantom 5 in a heartbeat
Great video Steve. It was fascinating to see the progression of drone consumer/prosumer technology over just 10 years building & culminating to what we have today with my Air2S & Mavic 3 Pro. I wish I could improve at the same rate ha ha.
Very interesting history and great to remember the earlier DJI models. Great video.

Good video and history lesson Steve
Hi Steve, great video as always, I had a P4P in 2017 and used it for the odd job and for fun however by last year it developed a fault and would give me warning about out of range and it was only 50 metres away so I bought a brand new P4P 2.0 from DJI, I researched the Mavic 2 Pro at the time but for the small jobs I do its all about the camera so I stayed with the Phantom, It was also handy to as I had heaps of batteries, ND filters and other accessories from my first drone to re-use.
Always wanted one but by the time I bought my first drone in 2019 (Mavic 2 Pro), there was no need for the Phantom for me. But definitely as you put it...game changer product.
I work as a surveyor. We use P4P all over my industry, It's still good enough to get surface imagery for Topo mapping and we use CAD software to manipulate the point cloud and cut solid designs.
Also it's low spec enough to make replacing them affordable, we lose soo many due to negligent operators.
Thank you for sharing such information.
I can sense Hubsan guys are taking notes while watching this..
Great episode. I own 5 drone and one is a P4. Will never give it up as it is a great bird.
Steve another great video. I have so many drones that I could have bought Ottawa! But besides my Evo 2Pro 6k I love the P4 pro plus. It is a lot of fun to fly. Take care and get out of the snow before you get a cold!!😀
Really liked the piece on the Phantom series. One of the interesting things that was available for the latter Pro models was the ability to record in RAW mode, which the cinematographers would like a lot. One of my oldest friends bought one, much to my astonishment, and mentioned this feaature as a major plus when it comes to the editing process.
Damn watching this video is bringing me back to the good days of the pantom thanks for this video! And the history! I really want a phantom 4 but christ its like they are holding there value so well...
Great history lesson. This is the second time I have watched it. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
Still looks fantastic!
I had no idea so much went on before I started flying. 👍👍✌️
Great history
My first photography drone was the DJi Phantom 2 Vision and it was incredible for its time
So well informed and very well presented. My biggest gripe was, you would be taking fantastic footage then it would wobble in the wind. But well done, very entertaining, again. John.
Great review as usual captain✊buh it’ll be cool having 360 obstacle avoidance on the phantom 5
I’m poor…give me a drone! LOL. Great videos! Love this channel.
Thank you for the history. I thought that the Da Jiang is the name of the owner of DJI 🦖
Enjoy the weekend
Very nice history report on the Phantom series. If there is a Phantom 5 I would want it to be like the DJI FPV with an autonomous flight plan software built in, a 60 minute flight time, 180 degree gimbal, and all the upgrades Captain Drone mentioned. 🎯
I’m so happy
Awesome video I missed my drone videos covet hit parts got hard to get I took a break from it I got so many I know you do too but I love your videos take care and be safe.
Thanks for a great video, so well researched, especially the fans of the Phantom series.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Get this man to 250 k subs he deserves it love your vidoes captain
Excellent History Video On DJI, and Amazing History How DJI Started and Grew As A Company. I Would Like To Buy A Phantom 4 Pro V2, But Don't Have Te Extra Money Right Now. It Will Be Interesting To See If The Phantom 5 Goes Into Production and Becomes Available On The Market For Purchase, and What Kind Of Changes Have Been Made By DJI For It. Very Well Done Steve! Thank You!
Good evening really great video
Hey Captain, thanks for all that info from way back when. It’s been well over a year since my 4pro+ been out of the case. Think I’ll pull it out when I make it back home. It was great for its time.
km
This is a great video I really appreciate it. I really miss my phantom three Pro and I know that the drones today have a much higher level of technology but man at the time that drone just did everything I needed it to do. The range was incredible for me. Now I will say I didn’t have duel IMUs and other redundancy and I did have a fly away in couple of times with my Mavic pro I got it back, but the funny thing is today we don’t ever hear about flyaways. CZcams used to be full of videos with drones flying away you never hear about it anymore and that’s probably because of the redundancy they have in the hardware.
I'm still a fan of the Phantom range. Good for flying line of sight. Also good in the wind
I really love information everything in terms of drones. Definitely you are the true captain of drone sir. I don't have any drone that's why i love to watch you explaining everything. Thank you so much sir.
Don't do it, the text is spam.
Wow sir very cool drone😍
Captain Drone you are Awesome !!!😁
Well done Captain!; a great History lesson (did not know what "DJI" meant !!!!) would love to see you do a similar retrospective video / test on the opposite end of the Phantom Series and arguably the DJI Drone that really changed the consumer landscape...........the Spark !!!!
Great video... it was an exciting time back then when the original Phantom came out. I miss those days.. the user base was also much different..
How so?
The phantom series was really good... And quite professional as well
I LOVE YOUR REVIEWS CAPTAIN.
Thank you
Great video 👍
Crazy you made a video about this my mini 2 and air 2s is giving me problems so I brought out the phamtom 4 v2..I love it
Awesome video Steve
@UCC0GsHsbuH1gDEwP1IRMp_Q thanks
Try looking up!
Huh? I don't see nothing?
My very first drone was a cheapie Parrot ... that crashed after about three flights ... as I did not know what I was doing. It was fragile and unrepairable. I waited a year and got a Phantom 2 Standard. About three months into using this model, it flew away over a bog area never to be seen again. I waited another year ... the technology was obviously a "work-in-progress." Somewhere in there I doubled down and bought a Phantom 3 and the rest is history. I've had a Mavic. Then moved to Autel to avoid DJI's nanny geofencing, then moved to a Skydio 2 and recently added a Skydio 2+ to the "fleet." I have had a Part 107 certificate since 2019. But, it was the Phantom 2 where I learned the basics of drone piloting and got totally enthused with this possibilities this added to my photography.
Please send me a drone lol! Sorry I couldn’t help myself Steve, the intro was fantastic! I definitely remember the phantom but truly when I was looking at them it was on vacation in new York where I am pretty sure they were imitation phantom drones because they were selling for 300 bucks or so.
I knew in 2014 when the 1st drone flew over me that I would have one someday. Flash forward to 2020 and I was flying Mavic Mini. Mini 2 now and considering Fpv. I’m 58 and about to retire. I don’t need any of your drones Steve. 😂 Although, I do still enter your giveaways. Can’t pass up a freebie. Great history channel stuff Bud!
I really enjoyed this. And i hope one day i can own a dji drone. Great Post
