I have several drones including the Air 2s. There is something about flying my Phantom 4 pro that keeps me coming back to it. Sort of like driving an old Corvette. It is an iconic drone that remains quite capable even by todays standards. I would love to see a Phantom 5. Thanks for the great video!

Yup I have 6 drones and my P4P V2 gets the call every other flight. Its just that good. My air 2s is great for packing it around, but the Phantom is nice right out of the car.

Thank you so much for the history lesson!! An old friend of mine got me into drones back in 2016/2017 and he had a Phantom 4 Pro and I was amazed by it… my very first drone was a Phantom 3 Gold but later I got the Mavic Pro Platinum I would tell him…. “The Mavic is the future for DJI, ill be surprised if they ever make another Phantom” and we would go back and forth on it him loving his Phantom and me Loving my Mavic…it seems my vision was right and even now in late 2023 there is not a Phantom 5. But I still fly my Mavic Pro Platinum and DJI Spark he bought for me all those years ago. If a Phantom 5 ever comes to light he will never see one, so a tribute and a Thanks to you Michael E K. May you rest in peace.

I bought two different off brand drones to practice with as I was a beginner years ago and although I bought one years after the other, neither one worked as well at all… especially the second drone which resembled a Maverick, the first one resembled the Phantom. Needless to say I’m still a beginner but I hope that all changes for me in 2024 as I plan on buying a good used drone and searching CZcams to learn more. Captain Steve, I watched your videos a few years ago and am glad you’re still making quality drone videos so thank you, By the way I have at named Captain.

O Captain! My Captain! This was an super rundown. My first drone was a Phantom 2 Vision+ and I used it to launch my mapping business. I later transitioned to the 3 and 4 models as they came out and finally to the P4 RTK which I still use today as it is simply reliable. I still have my P4P V2 as I often use it with the Goggles RE for site inspections and exploring. While I have a wide variety of drones, I still come back to the Phantom because of its reliabilty and its simply a great bird to fly. Stay Awesome!

Hi Steve, great video as always, I had a P4P in 2017 and used it for the odd job and for fun however by last year it developed a fault and would give me warning about out of range and it was only 50 metres away so I bought a brand new P4P 2.0 from DJI, I researched the Mavic 2 Pro at the time but for the small jobs I do its all about the camera so I stayed with the Phantom, It was also handy to as I had heaps of batteries, ND filters and other accessories from my first drone to re-use.

Also it's low spec enough to make replacing them affordable, we lose soo many due to negligent operators.

Hey Captain, thanks for all that info from way back when. It’s been well over a year since my 4pro+ been out of the case. Think I’ll pull it out when I make it back home. It was great for its time.

This is a great video I really appreciate it. I really miss my phantom three Pro and I know that the drones today have a much higher level of technology but man at the time that drone just did everything I needed it to do. The range was incredible for me. Now I will say I didn’t have duel IMUs and other redundancy and I did have a fly away in couple of times with my Mavic pro I got it back, but the funny thing is today we don’t ever hear about flyaways. CZcams used to be full of videos with drones flying away you never hear about it anymore and that’s probably because of the redundancy they have in the hardware.

I'm still a fan of the Phantom range. Good for flying line of sight. Also good in the wind

Well done Captain!; a great History lesson (did not know what "DJI" meant !!!!) would love to see you do a similar retrospective video / test on the opposite end of the Phantom Series and arguably the DJI Drone that really changed the consumer landscape...........the Spark !!!!

My very first drone was a cheapie Parrot ... that crashed after about three flights ... as I did not know what I was doing. It was fragile and unrepairable. I waited a year and got a Phantom 2 Standard. About three months into using this model, it flew away over a bog area never to be seen again. I waited another year ... the technology was obviously a "work-in-progress." Somewhere in there I doubled down and bought a Phantom 3 and the rest is history. I've had a Mavic. Then moved to Autel to avoid DJI's nanny geofencing, then moved to a Skydio 2 and recently added a Skydio 2+ to the "fleet." I have had a Part 107 certificate since 2019. But, it was the Phantom 2 where I learned the basics of drone piloting and got totally enthused with this possibilities this added to my photography.

Please send me a drone lol! Sorry I couldn’t help myself Steve, the intro was fantastic! I definitely remember the phantom but truly when I was looking at them it was on vacation in new York where I am pretty sure they were imitation phantom drones because they were selling for 300 bucks or so.

  • @gregpostdronephotography6499

I knew in 2014 when the 1st drone flew over me that I would have one someday. Flash forward to 2020 and I was flying Mavic Mini. Mini 2 now and considering Fpv. I’m 58 and about to retire. I don’t need any of your drones Steve. 😂 Although, I do still enter your giveaways. Can’t pass up a freebie. Great history channel stuff Bud!
