Just purchased one 5 days ago, no previous experience with drones, gotta say, I'm impressed with the price tag and performance. Great tip for us beginners on not panicking if you lose contact. Just chill and & wait for the drone to return. :)
Good choice. Happy flying!
RTH? Good luck on that...Lol!

@@CAPTAINDRONE798 love your channel. Just received DJI mini se. how do the lights show on controller and machine when fully charged? Can’t find on CZcams or google and no owners manual come with it which I think is ridiculous.
@@petropete3122 On the batteries, the lights will blink from left to right and when charged the lights turn off. Same is true on the controller.
Best review of the SE with clear information pointing out the differences. I purchased a DJI Mini SE last week after playing with the Ryze Tello for some time. Very happy with my Mini SE and glad I didn't settle for a 2nd hand Mini.
An extremely comprehensive review, as always. I am still incredibly happy with the Mavic Mini I bought when they were new. I am therefore extremely impressed with the Mini 2 and SE although I have no need to upgrade yet
What about now? Mini 3? LOL.
Nostalgic seeing the Spark!
You’ve succeeded in purchasing Mavic Mini se. I’m still waiting for the official release. Thank you for explaining in detail what many people were curious about the product. It was very helpful. -from one of your subscribers ;)
Thanks for checking it out.
Well done Captain! your review has nailed the differences between the 3 x Minis currently available; I purchased an SE today and out of interest sake, I compared the footage I shot this arvo between the Mini / Mini SE / Mini2 and Mavic Air 2 and Wow! I think there has been a tweak to the 2.7k Camera on the SE as its amazing!
I was impressed with your metal agility myself and having a Mavic Mini, you laid out the important features and comparisons of the two. Cheers mate!
You've packed so much info in this video. Spot on as always.
I will be getting one this week. I’m new with drones so I have to learn a lot with regulations, controls etc. You’ve explained the details easily and impressed what it can do. Thanks to this video!
Glad I could help
Thanks for another great video! As the owner of the original Mavic Mini, I feel DJI has "neutered" the Mini 1 since it was introduced. Myself and others online have noticed that with firmware updates that the Mini 1 doesn't handle as much wind anymore. I used to be able to put it up in some pretty strong wind before any alerts would pop up on the screen and it handled fine. Now it doesn't seem to take much wind for the warnings to pop up and doesn't seem as stable as it used to be.
Agree...... we dish out the big money 💰. BUT the almighty Dji pulls all the strings.....
Fly RC.... I'll let you in on a DJI Secret. DJI places those wind warnings so that they are recorded in the telemetry for the sole reason that if you damage your drone and blame it on the drone itself, DJI will tell you that you were flying in unsafe wind and probably deny your claim for free repairs or replacement... unless of course you have their insurance. With that said, there is no change to how the MINI 1 handles the wind, but now the drone is more sensitive to wind in the prompts it provides back to you.
Thanks Cpt! another great video summarizing a lot of info for us all! looking forward to your next installments! thanks a lot!
I love my SE! Had the Holystone Hs175D, then upgraded to the BUGS 12 EIS, now I'm addicted to my Mini SE! So happy now!!!
Just bought my own Mini SE and, no carrying case, but the flights I've done so far have been great! It's quiet, the range is AMAZING, and I'm glad it's under the 250 gram rule. I had to take a local UAV safety test but it was free and only lasted 20 questions. This doesn't have a place if your looking at it from a pro user ownership perspective, but if you're a first time owner it's is just perfect!
Isn’t the live image quality bad? Like you lose image or it is just low quality?

Very nice historical review of DJI drones. Much appreciated. I’ll look for the older one with more features though heavier than 250 g.
You may face problems finding new batteries though as DJI discontinued production long ago
🙂 Hi Captain, you make some great videos. Always explaining very well, in a friendly way. I like the tip about if your drone goes out of range and what not to do. People will have to watch the video to find out that one. A nice interesting review on the DJI Mini SE 👍
Excellent Tutorial Video Steve! Well Done! I'm hoping to soon get a Mavic 2 Pro and Mini 2. Thank you for your help and hard work.
I bought the SE and it’s been a fenomenal drone, flown it many times and quality is amazing. Just a bit disappointed that it does not have 4K, but otherwise very satisfied
Is 4K really that necessary? CZcams converts anyways and most socials barely do 1080 HD because everyone watches on a small screen
Great review Steve my friend 👍🙂. I have both the mini 1 and mini 2 drones. And maybe one day I will get the mini SE drone.
I'm glad I got the original mini 1 drone, It May not be as good as the mini SE or the mini 2. However it will be a collector item for sure. I got àlmost two thousand flights in two years now whew that's a lot of flight time and fun.👍🙂😀.
Thank you so very much my friend for sharing this video and God bless you always and everyone everyday 🙏
Loved it. Very informative and tons of knowledge all in one video. Thanks once again @CaptainDrone.
Great review!! Thanks a lot, being a Newby that was great advice to have faith that it will return to home... just wait for it. Well off to the store tomorrow to pick up my new Mini SE. Cheers mate!
When the Mini SE was released last month, the price of the old Mavic Mini dropped and made it 26% cheaper than the new Mini SE. The guy from DJI official store told me that was the last batch of Mavic Mini coming into my country so I placed order straight away. Now I have a DJI drone, finally.
That’s great man enjoy it.
Thanks!, Only thing missing or I didn't catch is price difference.
so which is better between them two?
@@PunxTV123 the se because the remote is nicer but it’s still enhanced wifi so buy the cheaper one I’d recommend a mini 2 at least I use an air 2s.

You are the best. I hope every one telling friends about this chanel. So you keep growing. You deserve it Steve...
Been doing a lot of research before buying my first drone and this guy is just the best, so informative but a down to earth guy is much easier to listen too. I think I’ll be purchasing the mini se when I get my next paycheck lol
Great video Steve! I liked how you included mention of the Spark as the genesis of this class of drones. As I own a Mini 2 (and a Spark), I'll pass on the SE, however, I'm very impressed by its specs and I've been recomending it to newbies. It's certainly worth paying what is just a little bit more for the SE over any budget drone.
How does the spark compare to say the mini-2?
@@s1dew1nd3r4 It doesn't! The Mini 2 is the newer technology and so is superior in terms of flight, radio transmission and camera characteristics.
This is a great question though and the Spark was a very impressive piece of kit in its day - and still is an impressive piece of kit. Yes the Spark has the obsticle avoidance and active track features that the Mini lacks, but I use a Air 2 now for these anyway.
The Spark will complete most missions acceptably. I've had it out over the past week and the only issues have really been with heavy winds where it gets blow off course and terrible transmission from the drone to my remote control/phone display, where it can become hard to see what you're doing. Despite this, it's still a lot of fun to fly!
I just purchased this as my first drone! Amazing 😻
A very detailed video. Thank you very much. With so many videos you uploading, you never get to sleep. Take care. 👍😀
Ive been looking to get a dji drone and so I turned back to this channel. Your videos give me a sense of nostalgia because I used to watch them so much about 3 years ago. Thanks for the review!

I love watching his videos ❤️
First I ever seen about RC small rotary parts
This is maddening! I bought the Mini 1 and 6 months later the Mini 2 shows up. I bought the Mavic Air 2 and 6 months later the Air 2S shows up. I think I'll just sell both of them, wait a year and then buy whatever shows up. Great review as always!
I will keep the Air 2S and forget about Mavic 3 Pro.
Coming soon, Mini 3 !
The best drone reviews so far for beginner like me. Thanks for tip for not panicking when signal was lost. Planning to get an SE soon. Thanks
Best reviews, thank you. As my 1st drone I will be buying the Se for sure
I have the mini se and its amazing😁. This was my first ever drone.
It's the same case you got with the Mavic Mini fly more combo Steve 😊
I purchased one for Christmas, no previous experience at all with drones, I haven't flown it yet but hopefully I will soon. I also bought the Mavic Air for a great price. I really like all your videos, keep up the great work and can't wait for your videos. Take care and keep em flying!!!
Great history and decoding of series features, thank you. Good advertisement for the Mini II (of the bunch), with the new case bought a-la-carte.
Can I use the mavic mini controller if I just pick up the drone by itself?
Great work as always. Still love my Spark!
such a good video i subscribed and liked i'm thinking about purchasing one of these thanks for being you!
Your neighborhood looks beautiful Cap! And your reviews are always top notch!!!
Thank you!
Man, you do the best, most thorough, reviews. I trust your reviews over all others. Great job!
Thank you!
LiPo and Li-Ion use the same battery chemistry, just packaged differently. With Li-Ion the electrolyte is inside a metal cell, while for LiPo the electrolyte is inside a plastic membrane (that’s the “polymer” part.) The plastic membrane allows for more irregular and prismatic battery shapes, offering lighter weight and more efficient use of volume, but this is at the expense of energy density, lifespan, durability, and complexity of replacement. EVs use Li-Ion while phones use LiPo.
Nice review I ordered the SE and can’t wait to take it out thanks for the info captain
I wasn't have any idea to buy the drone you video helps me alot thank you ,will buy Dj mini Se for my husband as a birthday present i hope he loves it ,thank you ❤️
Just started the video, cool shirt. I still have my Spark.
Hi Captain, love your videos. You are always very thorough and easy to understand! Can you recommend a good place to buy extra batteries for the Mini SE ? The one I'm looking at on amazon is $299 but it only comes with 1 battery. Your package came with 3. Better deal somewhere else for the 3 battery kit? Is there any reason to pick the mini 2 over this one outside of 4K capability? (The mini SE is half the price). Thanks!
People who are new to drones would not notice a difference between the SE or Mini 2. Range is what you get with the Mini 2. As for more batteries, I think you are stuck with the DJI STORE or do like me and order from CANADA.
Thanks for the video, Capt. I think you are one of the few who still regularly push out drone news and reviews.

Thanks to your review because of this I’ll keep my original Mavic mini I probably wait for another 3yrs to upgrade. I enjoy so much the Mavic mini no need to upgrade for now.
Can we call it the Mini 1.5 then?
Steve, will the dji "Pro 3" more expensive from the mavic 2 pro?

Awesome! Thank you!
Easily the best DJI review video I've watched. Thank you for helping me narrow things down 😊
Glad it was helpful!
Great comparison video! I preordered my Mavic Mini back December 2019 and received it in 2020. Although I haven't flown it in a while due to personal issues and responsibilities, I'm still quite happy with it. I see no reason to upgrade and instead will be looking into the FPV space for a drone I can fly purely for the pleasure of flight. Well, at least newbies will have more choice than ever in this sub-250 g space and I hope you do a review of the new Zino Mini when that comes out. I'm looking forward to it!
What problems didn’t allow you to fly it?
@@RiderEJ I've just been busy this year with personal issues and goals. It has nothing to do with the Mavic Mini itself. The drone is very good at what it does and I never fly it when the weather is too rainy or too windy.
I've just been stressing out about my financial future and dealing with New Year's resolutions. It also doesn't help that my favourite pet rabbit died last year so I've been feeling too depressed to go out to fly.
@@The-Opium-Den Oh sorry I mis read the message. I'm sorry to hear about your rabbit my friend. Best of luck.
This was a very informative video, thanks for sharing, also I loved the part about newbies freaking out about losing connection, I recently bought a Mini SE and this is my number one fear, so when that happen I will be prepared, this drone is pretty amazing for the price I can't believe how good drones are today since the Parrot AR.Drone days
I was enjoying your video, then saw your aerial shots near the school and thought "Hey, that's my old neighbourhood!" I lived near there for 10 years and could see that area from my upstairs window. Great video! My wife just bought me the Mini SE for my 50th birthday. Lots of bang for the buck.
Happy belated birthday!
Great review as always, thanks for this one
I find myself still using the Spark more than the Mini 1,its still a brilliant little drone.
In my country the mini combo package. Is about $500 and the spark, on its own, is $800. It's a crazy place.
Captain I’m only 13 so I can’t get money easy nor fast. When I saw the mini se it seemed perfect in terms of price, power and abilities but I want to fly it to an island 2.5 km from land and the land is in the middle of nowhere and very little interference. Another drone flyer from my town flown the mavic mini there fine and I was wondering would the mini se be able to do the same. I presume it can but though it’s best to find out from the best
If the mini one made it. It should make it just fine depending on wind also. A tricky question because it will most likely be out of line of sight. But other then that shouldn’t be a issue I have a se coming in I’ll update you on the this when it does. With way if you’re a beginner you will love it especially compared to other brands the mini 2 is also a great beginner drone maybe the best good luck 🍀 hope you get one ☝️
@@johnpatrick5282 thanks very much, I wanted to start with an easy drone so I bought a dji Ryze Tello and I love it but now I’d like to move on to something bigger and stronger. Thanks for all the info and help
Water van be tricky. It doesn't really reflect the signal as much as absorbing it. And that can very with conditions. Mine dropped connection mile out. On instinct I had random connect drop connect drop... gone lost connect. I was giving up. It had been 25 mind. And it showed up way above altitude it should be. Waited as it flew past, it was lost. As it came down I managed to connect. And brought it down with zero on the battery. Had flown many times there. First that happend. So be aware, hints of bad connection,

Lets say, something that we have to fix. Is there available spareparts from DJI? Or we had to another store?
❔❓❔❓⁉️❔❓❓❓
Yes, DJI has plenty of spare parts, but they want you to send it in to your local DJI authorized repair shop.
I once was flying sideways with mavic air 2, and I flew into a tree. I was able to find a new arm on Amazon for 40 usd.
@@CAPTAINDRONE798 awesome!! 😄😄
I often wonder the mini SE came about due to the current chip shortage affecting the mini 2. (It has different video related chips than the mini 1)
It also maximises on the tooling costs for the plastics for the mini 1’s remote Plus it means DJI can sell more product..🤔

I really want this drone i am saving up for it is it a good invest ment? and is it fun to use?
There is a newer model of this drone that can do a bit more, it’s called the DJI Mini 2 SE and I recommend that you get the new one since it has a few better features.
I love the OG mini as it’s lithium iron batteries stay charged for weeks unlike the lipos which self discharge after only a few days. Still imo they are great drones, you can’t go wrong with any of them 👍🏻🙏
They only self discharge to 75 percent after a week. Also, Li-ion batteries? Are supposed to be stored with a charge between 30-50 percent. Soo, yeah. You’re mistreating your batteries. That’s why the new ones self discharge, because people don’t know how to treat batteries.
@@Chimera_Photography No li-on doesn’t discharge like li-po when in storage. The fundamental point here is that li-po batteries are more volatile and when incorrectly stored & mistreated can catch fire unlike li-on batteries where this won’t happen due to the chemical structure of the cells, plus the low cost of batteries means you can leave them charged for long periods of time without safety issues so is a perfect grab n go drone unlike lipos where you need to be a pre-Meditative flyer and plan when you need to fly. My knowledge of batteries comes from flying 6ch collective pitch helicopters for over 15 years during which I manually discharged to the correct storage levels on balance chargers and obviously keeping them in fire proof bags/metal boxes. But yes some people don’t understand how batteries work or how to use them probably. So the self discharge feature is essential especially for newbies who don’t understand. Happy flying
I like Mini 1 too.

Very good and comprehensive video for me the first time drone owner. Bought the SE at my local Walmart today and didn’t have a clue how much I was getting and how to use it. I’m also an air ambulance helicopter pilot. Thanks 🙏🏻
Good choice, enjoy!
Nice review but the SE seems a bit underwhelming when everyone's waiting for the Hubsan Zino Mini Pro, the dji Mini 3 or even an Autel Evo mini.
I am still holding out for V2 Goggle support. Need Mini 3, under 250g, for this holiday season with Goggle support. Would sell like hot cakes! Hands down would give DJI a huge advantage in a highly competitive field. If they don’t, i fear it will be no different then all the others in this category.
Highly competitive..????
@@rogerthat9174 Correct. I just counted 10 different models alone in Captain Drone's video list (in the past few months). Just click his videos and scroll through. He and all other CZcams influencers are all making comments about how this 249g market is becoming crazy crowded, with all similar specs, cheaper pricing, better specs, etc. Hence DJI releasing the DJI Mini SE, in what I believe is an attempt to compete with the cheaper competition, offering same or better specs. Just watch Captain Drones last few videos on the other models (or any others). It will explain all.
Brian Flores I have seen his and other videos..unfortunately I have to disagree with you.. I am not a Dji fanboy.but Dji does not have to be concerned about the competition.... for a long while......✌️.
@@rogerthat9174 can't argue that. But the release of the SE, does show DJI is at least a little nervous IMHO. 😜
@@rogerthat9174 sorry, I'll have to disagree with you on that. There's a little thing called geofencing that Dji loves to utilize and restrict drone flights.
The only model that can be unlocked, is the original Mavic Pro. Otherwise, best spend your money on a company that leaves the responsibility of flight to the user.
The Autel Evo 1 and 2 are good examples of getting the best features for the dollar without controlling where you want to fly.
Thanks for the review. All the tips are helpful and the comparison were great. Very knowledgeable in explaining! Great video

DJI does not add all the features from the spark to the minis because they want you to have to buy the air 2 to get those features
So is the dji mini 3 still coming put soon? Or is that not happening?
Mini 3, like all DJI Drones, are delayed due to world chip shortage.

Great informative content Captain!
I’ve had more than 2km range in my Mavic Mini (1) flying along the river in my city in Australia. At the end I don’t know if it was the interference of all the Wi-Fi networks and power lines etc in between me and the drone but more likely just the sheer distance
As Oz uses the CE band, not FCC, 2km is pretty good. Was this in a capital city or the bush? As well as external signals, you also have to take into account objects such as buildings, trees and hills blocking your radio reception.
FCC in USA, FL.. urban interference polluted areas I'll get about 2 miles. Fields and places with little interference.. at 3-4 miles at least. Or more.........
@@matthewgleeson2121 yes CE band here. I’ll have to check the flight log but it was probably 1900m before it lost signal and did a RTH. Direct line, nothing between me and the drone along a straight stretch of river that I wanted video of but in the centre of a very large city so houses, apartments, commercial buildings lining the banks and ferry’s crossing up and down. It’s more than I would have expected on CE band but maybe the conditions were right on the day. I fly for cinematic video and explore different viewpoints so rarely need to fly too far
