    my boss just gave me an abus 165/40 that hes had for years but never knew the code for it and asked me to decode it. i thought about rolling through the thousands of codes that could be possible but decided to watch your tutorial and try it. Thanks to you my boss owes me 100bucks and it only took me 5 minutes xD

    The Abus 165 is actually pretty challenging to decode, very nice job Lock Noob :). Always hard to turn the dials without turning the other ones ;), but quite fun to relax :).

      redcatimaging yeah, I think you see at the end of the video that I knocked the last dial out of a gate and it opens when I realise and turn it back :-)

    Managed to recover my girlfriends BBL lock 🔒 with this , someone reset it by mistake;
    Notes:
    Pull find the lock point, release the tension, and adjust the tightest one gradually until there is another one thats tighter, then finally they should line up :-)
    Thank you @lockNoob

    This Abus at least stalled for time, I have a tiny one in the same colour but musnt have false gates and was embarrassingly easy to open. Thnx for sharing the methodology!

    Hi! I’ve watched several of your videos and I would like a suggestion from you on combination locks... I am looking for a 4 digit combination lock to use on securing some items while I travel. I can see that with enough time all combination locks can be decoded, however, I was looking to see if you have a suggestion on ‘more difficult’ combo locks then the standard run of the mill. Thank you!

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  Před 6 lety +1

      While of course I have an opinion, I would recommend talking to a good locksmith, who should be able to show you a range of locks at different prices and security rating. :-) good luck :-)

      @@LockNoob Strangely enough, in the Cleveland, Ohio area, I have found that many "locksmiths" seem less knowledgeable than the folks who post here on CZcams. At one shop all the locks on display were the same junk the big box store sells. I asked if they had any disk detainer locks. The counter person said, "Disk RETAINER lock, what's that?" At another shop they had a display board of ABUS locks. When I inquired about one, they said they don't stock any of them. They could order it in for me, at a price twice what I could get off of eBay myself. Why shop brick and mortar if they aren't knowledgeable and don't carry the locks?
      I have the same question Kylian has. I've seem lots of vids showing using a thin pick or blade to decode these locks and others using tension and feel. But, it would seem relatively easy to fix those deficiencies if some manufacturer cared to do so. Are there any combo locks that do that?

  • @i11horse
    @i11horse Před 7 lety +2

    I'm not a lock-picker at all, and maybe you answered this, but why are the false gates only on ~1/2 of the numbers? Wouldn't a false gate on every number make the lock much harder to crack?

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  Před 7 lety +3

      There are false gates on all numbers on some locks of this type, so I don't know why. Very good question and I'm sorry I don't have an answer. I guess that 2 false gates would be enough to put most people off??

    • @i11horse
      @i11horse Před 7 lety

      Lock Noob, thank you. I'll have to keep looking for an answer.

    Very nicely done and thanks a lot for the big shout out :-) Haha, were the marks on your finger from long decoding sessions? The day before yesterday I had a day off (old vacation) and I sat just in the sun with eyes closed and decoded locks - a wonderful relaxing time :-) Cheers mate and happy picking.
