- Mountain bike set up is a very personal choice, everyone is a different shape and size so getting your bike dialled in to maximise comfort and efficiency is worthwhile. XC bikes and racers can take this to the next level, it’s the kind of bike or ride you’ll put hundreds of hours on so having your cross country MTB set up either for mile munching or racing is really important. Here's Rich to show you how.

Glad that you gave us xc riders some attention. Love this channel
We need all the stention we can get!
@@marcalvarez4890 I see what you did there
In a context of XC, calling a Vittoria Barzo "something faster rolling" is like taking a tractor to an F1 race for its "improved handling". It has tons of grip but rolls as well as a cube on flat ground compared tires like the Mezcal or Peyote, or even Terreno which offers superb rolling and way more grip than people think when it's not muddy.
Another XC content! ❤️❤️
‘Crazy contraption Blake comes up with’ cue advert for swych bike 😂
Loving the xc gets more attention lately. Love rich and gmbn. 👍🏻👍🏻 my stem is also a dropper, aggressive posture and more pressure on the front wheel. I did a cycle fit, for me it’s the most efficient position.
I busted my Garmin when mounted out front, as you show, in a crash. I now use the Edge mountain bike mount for my replacement Garmin.
Same here. Scratched not busted. Now on the stem. Less vulnerable.
🤓 >> I'd like to see you guys participate in an XC race using a trail/enduro bike and vice versa - just to see in wich segments each rig is outperforming the rest of the field!
Yes! Yesyesyesyes!
I forget which channel or video it was, but i saw a presenter take his XC bike on his more enduro trails and was SHOCKED to find that his XC bike was faster overall.
After a lot of thought he suspected that the enduro bike was faster down the really rough stuff, but there was less of that than he thought. Basically, his XC bike was more agile and responsive, allowing him to ride around or hop over the worst of the rough stuff.
So, strange, but modern XC bikes are better all rounders than the bikes that claim to be all rounders.
@@marcalvarez4890 I swapped out an Enduro bike for an xc rig this year and I was shocked that it was faster down almost everything except for the really rough stuff. Xc bikes are a lot tougher than people give them credit from.
@@jacksonmalone2045 i use an xc bike on a dh track, so i can say that on places where the terrains is not so rough, it really it is better
@@jacksonmalone2045 Fascinating! Nice to see that video confirmed by your experience.
I know I've ridden my old XC bike with people on new enduro bikes, and i see them struggling to keep up going uphill, and frankly, are no faster going downhill.
I dont attribute this to my years of riding so much as the fact that im only 140 pounds and my bike is 25 pounds.....while they are a more average 170 and on 35 pound enduro rigs. Thats a total of 165 pounds vs 205 pounds. 40 pounds of mass cannot be made up for by a couple extra inches of suspension.
At no point in xc history was a race ever won or lost due to the weight of the chosen grips. In fact, I'd wager that no placing has ever been due to the weight of a grips.
In any endurance event, mental fortitude, focus, and strategy are by-and-large what separate anyone from their nearest competitors (gearing range excluded).
It is not just about the weight alone. A race however could be won or lost due to not being comfortable on the bike. Being in pain due to discomfort can sway the strategy from placing on the podium to one of survival and just finishing. For this reason if a particular set of grips was not comfortable, maybe caused excessive arm pump for example it could come into play.
@@TheAllEngineering A person would have that figured out prior to race day.
@@ianfleischhacker6154 You may think that but I have helped people on a number of occasions where they cannot pinpoint where the problem is. And yes in some cases it has turned out to be the handlebar grips contributing to the issue.
@@TheAllEngineering Fair enough, and I don't discount the importance of the right grips for the right hands. But this seems like an apples vs oranges exchange, i.e. grip weight and discomfort from "the wrong" grips are different things.
Great video Rich 👍
I have Barzo's on my Scout excellent tyres real game changer when I fitted them.
Garmin out front mount getting fitted this week for a 80-85 mile epic I'm riding this weekend 😁
Awesome stuff #GMBN 🤘

Very helpful
Seeing Rich saddle is up high giving me confident on some dh part at xc trail
Very good info especially for beginners 👍. Thanks for sharing
Glad it was helpful!
Cheers dude
I love your bike setup. Gonna do that too to mine if you don't mind 👍
thanks for sharing al the XC info. I liked the info about tires pressures and maybe inserts. Noticed your running the Barzo and Agarro...how do you like that setup?
Nice video sir
Here in the Philippines, you can find a lot of XC bike with 30mm stem and a 780mm bars, no spacers. And they're using it as a road bike
Spotted the Orbea Alma; mine is a lower-spec M25 with XT mechanicals. Just wondering if your air-pressure is based on tubeless (assumption) and how much more pressure would be necessary for running tubes. We have well-groomed trails around the SF Bay Area and I use 28 PSI front and 30 rear. Too much? Can I safely air down a few pounds?
I upgraded my specialized camber 750 bars for 800mm, feel much better with the extra width and rise, I'm a tall rider with log arms lol
Yes plz,
Yessssss
New forks I'm getting rock shock lyrics I'm sure don't have lock out?
XC les goo
I got XC hardtail,27.5 2.25 tires and 50 kg,can somebody answer me which tire pressure is best for me ?thanks.
missed the biggest set up mistake..... the setting of the gear and brake leavers .where on the handle bars and what angle position etc
Isit possible to set up my downcountry bike as a short travel trail bike
How about the drive train set up? 🙂
How about wheel/rim width? 25mm? 30mm? What goes well with what tyre width? #GMBN
I love 28 mm with 2.4 or 2.35 tyres for xc racing
Me in the past: Watching youtube for entertainment
Me in 2021: Watching youtube for educations purposes
Everytime I see scuff marks at handlebar height on trees I'm thankful for my skinny 650mm bars
You guys need to make a video about what type of bike is best of XCO.
is he using poc ventral lite?
I ride mainly on Vittoria tyres (Barzo and Mezcal), it''s written that it's not recommended to use a pressure under 2, 0 bars.
You say you inflate them at 24 psi (1,6 bars) for the back and 22 psi (1.5 bars) for the front, is it safe despite what Vittoria says ?
You can run them at much lower pressures if you run them tubeless never had any problems whit them
It's safe if you set them up tubeless
Can anyone help? Which bike is better and which do you recommend I get ?
Boardman MTR 8.6 Mens Mountain Bike 2021 - S, M, L, XL Frames

VooDoo Canzo Full Suspension Mens Mountain Bik
Have you made a decision yet?
They're pretty similar bikes, seems to me like the MTR comes with a bit nicer components overall, but the differences aren't going to make or break the bikes.
Really it seems to me that you need to decide if you want a 29er or a 27.5 bike.
just set my tires 2.2 in the front and the 2.35 in the back
what's your bar width?
Can seat be lowered?
What is harder?

pointless question
What mtb do you recomend for kids?
I bought my younger kids Norco bikes and am very pleased with the quality. They do outgrow bikes quickly though and my son who is 11 will be between the kids size and adult pretty soon, so he’ll either be too big for the kids bike or I put him on a 27.5 that he’s a bit short for.
@0:46 That's a real person right? (Background)
What is a token?
Hey ..what's your bikes tire size please??
29x2.20 and 29x2.40
What is the size of that bike?
Cwmcarn?
There’s nothing really wrong about using a xc bike on a trail right? ‘Cause I do it, just need to know all your opinions.
As long as you're having fun, nothing is really wrong
@@martijnb5531 You’re right about that buddy, ride safe always!
If you want to ride hard you probably need a proper trail bike I have a hard tail with RS-1 forks 100mm travel and a Nukeproof reactor with 130 and 140 and I wouldn’t think of riding my XC bike where I ride my reactor
I do that dude. You can use on the trail, just avoid big jumps, and i dont like going flying down terrain that is very tecnical.
They go well if you respect the limits of the bike. So just go on the soft parts of the terrain and a little bit slower. This helps in your tecnic too
Full trousers or shorts for cross country?
Both depends on the weather
When you shaving the Barnet ma balding brother Let's go
I'd love to buy a Canyon Lux, if only they made them in a amateur aluminium version. These carbon prices are over the top
I totally agree that there should be atleast one version with an aluminium frame, even if it´s on entry level. But compared to aluminium bikes with similar components there´s not a really big price gap. Lux CF 7 with carbon frame, Oiz 10 TR and Trance 1, both with aluminium frame, all with Shimano XT and and similar suspension and only a difference of 400 - 500 €. Bikes are expensive, not much we can do about it.
@@schmitt258 yeah true. But if you made an alu frame you would have a much better price. And besides that. I don't need carbon. I prefer alu much more
The LUX has no rear pivot.
The seat stays flex to track the shock mount. You cannot flex aluminum like that. So there will be no budget version.
The Lux design is possible ONLY because of the material properties of carbon fiber.
@@marcalvarez4890 alright. Did not know that. Cool. Thanks

hi
Everything functions properly czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Nothing was damaged in the box aside from a decal on the fork. The decal was missing a piece of a corner but I ended up peeling them off anyways. Assembly is easy BUT make sure you tune up the derailleurs. Both the front and rear need adjusting. I'd advise going to a bike shop but I opted out and put in 10+ hours with the help of CZcams. Ended up fraying a shifter cable but all in all I learned from the experience. The Brakes work well but the front caliper needs adjusting or at least mine did because the rotor was rubbing against the pads. Make sure you swap out the seat, grips, and pedals. For the short run you'll be fine though. I've read that this bike isn't built yet for hard trails but I just need it for the city. PA has some of the worst roads and being in a mountain this was a great choice. Worth the investment!
Nino's bar width is 680mm to 690mm ...Nino's mechanic Yanak says Nino uses at least three tokens... 10x world champ. Hmmm...
that blake scene thoooo
Slam the stem like Nino 🥴🚴♂️💨
My xc has 2.8 tires 🤯
Yo second to watch
At work so I'll watch this later
Ok, thanks for keeping us updated. When you do finish it, let me know what you thought of it. And please say goodnight tonight!
: )
Yo anyone got any recommendations for a 700 mm handlebar that's decent and not any longer ?
Generally, when you go longer, it feels weird to go back to narrow, so, 700mm feels a little too short. I use 720mm for XC (but many people using 740mm). If you do Enduro/DH, more like 760-780 would be awesome
@@grooveseeker6269 I don't do enduro and it's funny cause I find 700 mm quite long lol anything above is a bit too much for me
And remember MOST IMPORTANT you cannot install any fenders. If you do you are instantly removed from MTB community.

Can I have that bike for free?😳
First
I feel like you wouldn't want to be super forward when climbing. You want your weight closer to the rear wheel so the wheel doesn't slip
I watched this to set up my enduro bike. I just did the opposite of whatever he said
Set up tip #1 Change out of office pants before shooting mountain bike video.
can i have one of your bike please

Looks like you're wearing office slacks
Guys if you have a bike that is old and never used... Plsss send me one thankyou
Huh
Global bike shortage is making people desperate.
I'm confused as why people want to spend so many thousands of dollars on carbon crapola thats as ugly as a Nike shoe. good video but new bikes are disgusting to me. cheers.
