I was going to say, “hey, that things arching somewhere” before you showed it. I could hear it over the video. Those double bound coils from OMC seemed to be particularly famous for external leaks. Try the CDI branded units for future reference. I’ve had very little issue with their packs or coils.

Then you also have to carry tools in order to remove the pull starter.

@@BrandonsGarageI really don’t like the recoil starter on the 80s model omc 9.9/15s but I do appreciate the fact that the flywheel and the rope notches are accessible.

Not sure if it's important but a noticeable leak of some sort of fluid that appears in the gear selector rod connection ? right under the "block" from the handle side looking straight on from the side...camera...liking the diagnostic findings

I have this same motor and it runs for 10-15min then act like it’s running out of gas, but i put in a new fuel pump and rebuilt the carb, still same thing, then I replaced the the water impeller and thermostat and tale tale hose and it pumps water better now but still dies, the only time it never died was when it was 35-40degrees out it ran perfect never failed for hours. So I thought it is heat temp related, so I keep freeze spray in the boat and during summer it ran 10 mins and I let it get to the point it was gonna die, then I sprayed the cdi and it started going like crazy perfect again, I did that 5-6 times, every time it’s ran perfect when I froze the cdi! So I bought a brand new Evinrude cdi and put it on and god damn it did the same thing!! I’m an electronic technician by trade and I can’t believe it still did it after replacing it!! Any ideas?

I’ve got a 1978 Evinrude 35 HP outboard but am missing the linkage that goes from the engine to the steering cable. Do you know where I could find one?

  • @coastalcleaningandmaintena2884

I went and looked at one of these and yes there is barely any info on them. The code for the short shaft etc just said gv and that meant special gearbox? So a explanation of that would be nice. I know it was long as hell also Didnt show compression. Very tough to find solid info. And i had the plate with the codes and vin stamp etc. Still nothing.

Hello everyone, my 1986 Johnson 120hp v4 looper engine has a on going wot miss or a intermittent miss around 4k rpm. It will only intermittently start missing at around 4k rpm and a constant miss at wot. I have it narrowed down to a electrical issue. I have a 2 year old cdi power pack on it and one new coil and plug wire the other 3 are old. I am planning on installing all new coils and sp wires. But if that doesn't fix it my other option is to replace the stator and timer base which is pretty costly. Does anyone know how the stator and timer base affect the power pack or is there any good way of testing them? Thanks to all for any assistance with this pickle.
