I bought a street bob purely from watching your original video when they were released. I'm very pleased with it, it is a great bike. It does everything better than my old 48, although it doesn't quite have the same curb appeal or smile factor. Wherever I went on my 48 I couldn't help but grin. It was uncomfortable and vibrated, had no ground clearance and a ridiculously tall first gear but it just made me smile. The street bob is better in absolutely every way; power, handling, comfort and stopping ...... but It feels more like a regular bike. I love riding the street bob but it doesn't make me "feel" and "grin" like the sporty did.

Just test rode a FXDB and a fxbb. I feel like the fxbb was super easy to ride and barely felt like it was on on idle, but for me personally the shakiness of the Dyna and the sketchiness of the Dyna is way more fun. Now if you're going to be commuting a lot on the bike then the fxbb would be the way to go but for around the town fun it felt like the Dyna feels way more fun and badass.

    Great video Matt!
My first HD was a used 1974 FXE Superglide that I bought in 1979. It was both kick and electric start. The old Superglide's had a 3 1/2 gallon gas tank and though it was limited, I managed to ride all over several counties. I lived in Ventura county and went to Long Beach and Santa Barbara all the time.
It was a blast to ride and I wish I had kept that bike!
People used to always say "Oh, those AMF bikes leak oil, never start and were unreliable", but truthfully, Mine never leaked oil, always started by the 2nd or 3rd kick (I could use the electric starter but I didn't want to strain my thumb. lol) and always ran!
My only complaint was that I needed to adjust the chain all the time, but that's a small price to pay for all the pleasure I got in return!
One lesson I learned about a 3 1/2 gallon tank was that once you are on reserve, you better start looking for gas because if you ran out, you didn't need a gym membership! LOL

Although I love my '09 Low Rider & have no plans to part with it, you've put the Street Bob in a good light for me. Certainly looks worth a test ride. Nice job as always Matt. If I ever decide to switch coasts, there's only one H-D dealership to consider, & that's Laidlaw's. Looks like a decent place to work as well!

I have a 17' dyna Street Bob. I haven't ridden an M8 bike yet, but I think my 103 TC is a gem of a bike. Also, just throwing this out there, not only is it my first HD but it's my first bike as well and I am 24. So I feel that my bike is a little more "core HD" rider friendly than maybe an M8, but I love my bike regardless. I have gotten nothing but compliments on my bike, the latest from an FZ07 rider I came up on a couple of days ago. I love my bike, I thrash it hard, and Matt you nailed the point about being aggressive on this bike. I am probably moving up to a touring chassis for my next bike, but I recommend this to anyone thinking about this bike, especially as a first bike over a sporty. I think its got power for days, but its light enough that you aren't going to get yourself into trouble if you a responsible and respectful of the bike.

I just got one and I am really happy with it from every single aspect: style, comfort, performance and price. However, I have added a side black leather bag and front tool leather cylinder bag in front of the rubber shocks absorbance (to hide them). Also, added an engine gaurds that help stretching your legs and a detachable pylon seat and a back folk that adds a lot to the bobber style and works perfectly well as a pylon back support or to fix your backpack. Overall, super happy with everything I’m getting out of it.

That mono shock is placed exactly like on my 05 Buell XB12R, Eric was ahead of the curve 20 years ago. I love my 02 Night Train, 95" built and dyno'd @ 100lbs-ft 97bhp, fun little ripper and wouldn't trade it for any refined, more powerful metric bike out there. Almost all Harley's once they become antiques, start appreciating and eventually become worth more than their original selling price. The fact that Harley is still finding ways to bring more power to the table on an air cooled V twin tractor engine is pretty amazing. M8's sound like a Harley, let's stop with the they lost their sound, not a chance Lance! ( I don't know who Lance is ). Great video Matt, love your content and knowledge you bring to the table.

I'm different than you though, much shorter and lighter so with a corbin seat, some bags and the extended reach risers on a drag bar. I think it's gonna be fine on my summer rides. I love the power to weight ratio and the handling. I find it’s a bit small for me (I’m 6’2”). She has toured with me but she has a windshield, sundowner, cruise control, rack and highway pegs so no problem. She does have to fuel up twice as often as my Road Glide though. Excellent review, once again. Really appreciate your no bull opinion on whatever your reviewing. I was a big fan of the old Dyna Street Bobs. H-D did a pretty good job of bringing them over to the softail chassis. The smaller tank is not a deal breaker for me, but would prefer a 4-5 gal capacity. The absolute deal breaker for me is the gauge. Don't like it at all. I much prefer the old school analog gauges on the Lowrider. I do love that you can get a blacked out model from the factory without spending a basket of cash in the aftermarket isle. Thanks and good job.

I had a Dyna street bob. Test rode the softail. It just didn’t stand out as a upgrade. I thought it felt restricted and I didn’t want to rev it out. The ergonomics were a little different and I didn’t like that either. I was considering the low rider if I was going to trade into a softail. But I got a 2018 street glide special instead. It checked all my boxes for what I like. And it sounds way better and much louder than my 103 or even the 107 street bob. Also doesn’t feel restricted. It likes to rev and sounds good doing it.

Great review. One point I wanted to make is that I had an Iron 1200 and was ready to upgrade to a Softail. Since they both had mini-apes I “knew”’ I was going to love the flickable handling. Surprise, I hated it, it handled nothing like the Iron 1200. It was much harder to turn-in and was much less precise. I ended up with a Low Rider and loved the handling of it.

I should say it was a way more comfortable suspension then the Iron 1200 all day long.

Hey Matt, this is a “worthwhile video!” The ‘18 + Street Bob is a great Ride for $14.5K and one of the best Bobbers someone can buy for the money or a signature: Very Clean! I sell at Harley-Davidson of Ocean County, New Jersey and this bike is our best selling Softail and great to help new riders riding further; more riders need to know: Thanks!

Thanks for the review! Personally I have chosen a used Slim (old softail frame) over the new Street Bob last year when i was purchasing my first HD, being at the same price, the Street Bob just felt too cramped to me and i`m not a really tall guy - 182 cm with 32 inches inseam. However i do appreciate the modern techs of the new softail line and maybe will switch to it one day. Cheers

I was originally planning on getting a Iron883 as my first actually bike that I own because i hated the look of the softtail street bobs. (I loved the dyna street bob) However when I went to the dealership to do some window shopping the other day I looked at the new streeet bob and got to say im definitely sold. Will be picking it up as soon as I can get my down payment together.

@@fabiors10 yeah it's odd, but if they would have gone with the analog style gauge or gauges it wouldn't have had that original raw bobber style, so while it does look weird it still sorta maintains the look, but like he said for legal issues Harley Davidson had to give you something.

Because of my first test ride on the FXBB, I bought a FLHCS. The Heritage Softail fit me better. Both are great machines. It's a matter of preference. My fourth HD and started with 1967 XL and my bike before the Heritage was a FLHTC, I owned 29 years. HD got the M8 right!

I'm looking at Tab performance or a Thunder Header full system that they just came out with. Doesn't look like they have room for passenger pegs. Wonder if there gonna fix That?

Good Day Matt from Australia. Great review as always. Ride a MY18 Iron 883 great bike but I customised it by adding mini apes, sundowner seat, v/h slips ons and screaming eagle bags. Fantastic bike to ride especially with the upgraded seat. The fuel tank could have been bigger. Am thinking of upgraging to the Street Bob or Slim 107. Can you upgrade the tank on the Street Bob to a larger size tank?. If not I would be leaning towards the new Slim. Keep up the good reviews dude. Cheers.

Nice video, i purchased the 21 bob with the 114 and its a beast, although the mini apes got old and decided on a bar swap to drag bars. So far i changed the seat to a Saddleman Profiler, and rear stretched fender and wrapped front fender, so im guessing i dont have a bob any longer.

did not get this bike last year and chose Sport Glide largely because of the narrow primary, in 2019 HD has improved Street Bob so its arguably the best priced Softail. Need to add some stuff - Saddlemen seat, risers with Tbars, road warrior windshield, left swingarm leather bag, VH black big shots staggered, or Rinehart 2 into 1, black gas cap and voila!

Hey Matt! Is there a "Street Bob Special" in the works? Either from the factory, or a dealer project? I prefer mag wheels also, but really like the minimalist digital gauge cluster. But the "Special" I'm thinking of would (continue with the blacked out theme of course) have: Mag Wheels, Forward Foot Controls, 2-into-1 black pipe (Screaming Eagle?), and a Stage IV 107-to-114 Kit. Also change the seat and add a few blacked out style accessories.
And a side question: I saw you move your camera mount from the headlight lens to the fuel tank, your thoughts about that?
