It’s been 16 years, and yet fans around the world are still theorizing about the Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of KorraTV shows, but also their comic books and novels. And with the fresh and exciting launch of Nickelodeon’s Avatar Studios, we are about to get even more to talk about for at least a decade or two. The beauty of theory is not always to find answers, but to imagine potential events or even what if scenarios. While The Legend of Korra have answered some of the burning questions we had about what happened after Aang’s victory over Fire Lord Ozai, and after Zuko’s coronation, it also left us with a lot of questions. There’s a huge time gap between the two series, and while the comic books are slowly filling that gap, it’s still far away form answering all of our burning questions. It’s true that we all want to know more about what happened after the Avatar series, but what about what happened before it? The Rise of Kyoshi and The Shadow of Kyoshigives a look at Kyoshi’s life, but we still don’t know how the Order of the White Lotus was born or how Iroh and Bumi became members.
In today’s video I’ll discuss important questions like: is cabbagebending possible? Would Korra kick Aang’s butt in a fight? Why is Mai so grumpy all the time? Alright enough goofing around, here’s 20 Avatar mysteries that need explaining.

@@Distant_View Okay, I have no idea where you pulled that "millions of degrees" statistic, it would probably reach somewhere between 2000 to 4000 degrees kelvin. Also, I don't know how much physics you can comprehend, but a comet can reach that temperature and still stay intact, because think about it, THEY EXIST. If that blatant fact wasn't enough to tell you that maybe there is a flaw in your logic, then let me explain it to you. A sungrazer passes close to the sun, which causes high temperature on the SURFACE. Which means it doesn't cease to exist, but instead it creates a massive ion tail, and gradually gets smaller. Sozin's comet appears to very large relative to other comet, so, like other large sungrazers, it could survive several passes of it's perigee with the Sun.

I originally thought the Giant Lion Turtles were spirits, not living beings.

    • @silvanvanderhorst7366
      @silvanvanderhorst7366 Před 2 lety +5

I like to think they are the gods of the avatar world. Because Raava called the air lion turtle "Ancient One" indicating that the lion turtles are older than her. Raava and Vaatu seem to be the oldest spirits because they represent the two primal forces of good and evil. The world of avatar seems to work on the concept of yin and yang: for everything that exists, there needs to be an opposite counterpart. For example: you have the material world, but as an opposite you have the spiritual world. Every object and phenomenon in the physical world has a spiritual counterpart in the spirit world. I believe that the seperation of Raava and Vaatu made the creation of the two worlds and the spirits possible. Because spirits also have a light side and a dark side inside them.
But I don't think that Raava and Vaatu created the two worlds, because it is said by Vaatu that he was the one who broke the barrier between the two worlds. Why would he need to break a barrier between the material and spirit world if he and Raava created them? That's why I think that it was the lion turtles who created the two worlds and as a result Raava and Vaatu. Because the avatar duoverse seems to rely on duality, I think that the lion turtles seperated Yin and Yang which created the two worlds. The spiritual world represents Yin (light) because it seems to be a world of balance, harmony, enlightenment and the creatures that live there have eternal life, while the physical world represents Yang (darkness) because it is a world of hardships, creation and destruction, chaos and the creatures that live in there can die (which is proven by the fact that when the Moon and Ocean spirits came to the physical world they became mortal and could die, demonstrated by Zhao who litterally killed the moon spirit. And the avatar is also the physical incarnation of Raava on earth who can die, but reincarnates because Raava's avatar spirit cannot).
And by splitting up Yin and Yang, the lion turtles as a result created Raava and Vaatu who are the spiritual representatives of these primal forces. There existence was what made the creation of other forms of life in the duoverse possible. Raava's light was what created the other spirits in the spiritual world and what created the galaxies, planets and life forms in the physical world. While Vaatu's darkness created the dark side of all spirits and what causes organisms in the physical world to die and what causes the destruction of pretty much everything in the physical world, because nothing lasts forever.
Because of this the lion turtles were not gods like we know them from mythology who directly created the world we inhabit, but rather primordial gods who represented primal forces that layed the foundation for later, smaller gods (in this case spirits) to create the world as we know it today. This is similar to the creation story of Greek mythology where you have three generations of gods: the primordial gods, the Titans and the Olympians. The primordial gods represent the primal forces of the universe that were responsible for its first creation. First there was Chaos (nothingness, emptiness and disorder) who was followed up by Kosmos (order) which started the creation of the universe. From order came Gaia (earth) and her son Uranus (heaven/sky) with whom she had a child named Kronos (time). It was foretold that Uranos would be killed and overthrown by his son Kronos, which indeed happened, and after killing his father Kronos set up the rule of the Titans. The Titans ruled over the universe for some time which was said to be a golden age, in which they again lay the foundation for more creation, but the world was still far from how we know it today. Than at last came the rule of the Olympians after it was prophesised that Kronos would also be overthrown by one of his children. To which he responded by eating all of his children, except Zeus who managed to get away because his mother tricked Kronos in eating a stone instead which he thought was his son. After Zeus had grown up he killed his father and freed his brothers and sisters from Kronos' belly. After this a war broke out between the Titans and the Olympians which the Olympians won. The Olympians than created the world as we know it today and created all the animals and the humans that inhabit it.
So in a similar fashion, I think the lion turtles created the two worlds as blank slates and the smaller gods Raava and Vaatu, and later all the other spirits, are what created the world of avatar as we know it. And just like Greek gods I mentioned above, the lion turtles seem to represent the primordial powers of the avatar duoverse (earth, water, fire, air and energy). In this case, I believe that the energy lion turtle (the one Aang met) is the supreme god who split Yin and Yang and the other elements are smaller gods who represented the core elements of the avatar duoverse. Or it could also be that the elemental lion turtles are different representations and aspects of the energy lion turtle, just like how in some versions of Hinduism it is believed that all the gods in the pantheon are actually all just different versions or aspects of one almighty god named Brahman. Or it could also be that they are the energy lion turtle's children. If they are indeed smaller gods and if they are indeed killed off by the humans, this would explain why the more powerful energy lion turtle is still alive. Or maybe, the physical world made the other lion turtles mortal, including the energy lion turtle, just as it made the moon and ocean spirit mortal.

Thinking of Evil as the opposite of good is literal Heresy as stated by many many Popes!

Here’s how I think the avatar cycle works:
When the avatar is reborn, Ravva merges with the new avatar. We already know this. The avatar is able to learn all the elements because the ability was stored in Ravva, and being merged with her is what makes you the avatar. When an avatar goes into the avatar state they truly merge with Ravva, giving them all the memories, knowledge, and experience of the past avatars, making them even more powerful along with the power of Ravva, this meaning that the farther into the future you are, the more powerful the avatar state is (yay!) I think it woudl be cool if one time Ravva split her spirit in 2 and created twin avatars.

I actually thought about firebenders doing some type of mind control with bending the electrical pulses through ones nervous system. I only came across this idea because I was thinking 3 bending types can manipulate the body in some type of way. Water- blood bending, air- some type of oxygen bending, & earth- bone bending. That leaves one final thing of will left to control...the mind.
I came to this conclusion only after thinking about Steven Universe's the Diamond Authority and all their different abilities. They all controlled an aspect of a gems being. When put together they controll their whole body their whole will. Same thing goes with bending all the elements are within us. Coincidentally enough just like white diamond being the final and ultimate key to controlling one; their mind...the fire benders seem to also be that final puzzle piece to also controlling the mind through electrical signals or at the very least influence it.
Now imagine a seemingly unstoppable bender and the only way to beat that person is to have all four element benders bend the different parts of the very person's being which leads to full and dare I say complete control. You gotta admit I'm on to something here or at least it's an interesting theory.

    19) Iroh, taking on an ancient firebending right of passage alone is not far fetched.

    17) The comics aren’t the highest writing of the series.
    16) you really want animators to draw frame by frame water droplets?
    15) There is picture documentation of adult Sokka carrying a sword.
    14) the comet flew so close to the atmosphere it parted clouds, that’s enough for a second sun for firebending.

    12) prove Genji is cannon.
    11) Mai and Zuko, it is what it is.
    10) normal animals in fantasy is boring, animals that could pass for Pokémon are awesome.
    8) home is home.
    7) Azula had a hand in killing Bolin and Mako’s parents? Seems a stretch.

The technology of that world is far worse than what we have. In order to make your face known you would need someone to purposefully sit there drawing you. If you want a super accurate representation of you you would need to sit there for hours on end in one spot in front of an artist. Not only that but there wouldn't be much of a printing press that can make pictures, meaning every copy of every picture would need to be hand drawn or painted. It would be somewhat viable maybe to get that rough figure drawn on a poster of some sort but large scale painting production? That would take a lot of manhours.
