The other thing to keep in mind for comparison is that Korra (17) not only had 5 years on Aang (12) in age, but she was trained to be the Avatar even earlier than that. Aang learned an insane amount in a matter of months and definitely showed more creativity in bending. Korra’s style was geared more towards combat, aligning with her more aggressive personality. BUT she did learn how to spirit-bend and metal-bend, which you can’t really say for Aang. In a 1 v 1, where they’re the same age, I’d give the advantage to Aang for creativity, composure, and defensive capabilities.

korra learned how to bend 3/4 elements as a toddler, and was trained from that point as a fighter. everyone seems to think aang wins despite the creators themselves saying korra would win in a fight (although im not sure if they specified their ages). I think people really dismiss korra's character development and discredit her growth, while praising aang's. Her spiritual connection is also stronger than aang's by the end of the series. she's the most accomplished avatar we know of. korra saved the world three times, and opened a new spirit portal. it all just seems like people hate the show so they think aang has to win

He was a master of air and water and was able to fight on near even footing against masters of earth and was very proficient with fire. Aang wins because while Korra has more raw power aang was used to fighting stronger opponents and is very creative. He has been shown to energy bend, he has his connection to the past avatars, and he has seismic sense. Korra had years and years of training and aang still had on par power after a year of his training. In their primes aang claps Korra.

Well fire is an emotional element. And being the Avatar makes it more difficult plus Aang was forced to mature at a very early age. Even Zuko kept on struggling with his bending because he kept changing sides. Korra didn't suffer much from it but she has a shorter fuse. I think Aang's main bending tactic is defensive and fire is more offensive so he uses it less and practiced with it less.

One correction. Aang does not need the Avatar state to take or give someones bending. That is a skill he possesses, Korra needs it because when you are in the Avatar state you can access the knowledge of the past lives, in this case Aang's knowledge. She may have learned it later again from the spirit Raava, but with Korra's connection to Aang gone we are no longer sure if she CAN take someones bending away at all.

There is a very large difference between the avatars. I don't remember where I saw or heard this but I distinctly remember something that summed it up perfectly. Aang is learning how to derive himself from his humanity and become the avatar, yet Korra is learning how to derive herself more from being the avatar and becoming more human. Also, everyone is forgetting that they are both the same person. Same text but in a different font lol.

Even with airbending, it just like *appeared* when her 3 others were blocked, not when she realized sth about the element. For Aang, he was able to firebend after learning the nature of the fire from the dragons. Maybe the story of learning about the elements was already told in ATLA so in LOK they decided to dig more in the spiritual ability of the Avatar instead.

    My assessment:
Fire: The power of fire bending comes with breath. Aang is more calculated and utilizes the power to endure for long. Korra is very aggressive, which might help in a short battle but I think Aang can take her. Also, Aang can re-direct lightning.
Water: Korra is a solid water bender. I think through her journey in four seasons, she learned how to control her emotions really well. This is evident in her water-bending in the episode 'The Day of the Colossus'. It's her natural element. Aang has done great water-bending but is not that as great as Korra.
Earth: Bumi said that 'Neutral position' is important for earth-bending. Someone who waits and listens. Aang has learned the skill from the best and has shown to follow earth-bending in that style. Korra is again aggressive and doesn't really adopt the stronger style. That being said, Korra can metal bend. Hence, I would say that it depends on the place of battle, but Aang would still have some decent advantage with his basics being very strong.
Air: This is Aang's natural element. He is creative, he is a master. I really don't need to say anymore. Korra, it seems still shows a more aggressive style of air-bending. I don't have a problem with that but Aang is just too strong in that department.
Extra skills: Korra during her journey learned a lot of extra skills like spirit bending, healing, etc. which increases her overall skill set. But on the other hand, basic qualities like creativity during battle, using your animal guide during battle, and connection with the spirits, I believe Aang has mastered well.
Hence, in my opinion, if Aang and Korra were to battle it out. Korra would come on strong early in the battle but as the battle progresses, Aang would take the final win. What do you guys think?

without the avatar state korra is definitely stronger. she has shown impressive bending abilities without using the avatar state (like when she froze kuvira's giant robot thing). but with the avatar state i would say that aang is stronger. i mean he was destroying a powered up (cause of sozin's comet) ozai with ease after he entered the avatar state. i feel like since he’s also a more spiritual type than korra it enhances his avatar state more. which is also why korra is stronger with raw power.

Actually we've been shown an avatar to lava bend, for example roku on the fire nation temple island, and I might be wrong but also the other "fire" avatar before him

As fan fanctioney as it would be, I’d love for some way for Aang and Korra to meet, it could be SO COOL

  • @CoolMan1_SonicAndOtherStuff

Both were AMAZING avatars, but I think aang, being the Avatar before korra, is a lot more skilled. Korra showed her skills too. She's really tough and doesn't give up in a fight, she fought someone who can take away people's bending, and she created a new spirit portal at the end of the show.
    But Aang came before her.

Aang became creative and used the least offensive skills and bendings because he tries to be a pacifist and not seriously harm others. Thats why he least used fire and earth. Korra is quite aggressive and relied more on avatar mode.
By Korra's time bending had advanced far enough for her to learn different things from Aang.

@Janken She used it to win a race against children! If that is not overusing, I don't know what is.

@Janken I can't see your full reply for some reason, but she does overuse it. Using avatar state on such a small reason? Also to have fun? It is either a avatar defense mechanism or an offensive one. She is clearly abusing it.

@@tahmidtarique6077 A scene to demonstrate how she needs to grow as the Avatar shouldn't reflect on her overall fighting capacity as "relies on the AS"
The AS has saved Aang _far_ more times, and the writers purposefully made it so that the only time Korra went into the AS in s3 was when she was forced.

I feel like aang could have metal bent because he could use seismic sense. That was how toph was able to sense the earth fragments in the metal

Твои "чувствую" идут к черту,потому что нам в комиксах прямо говорили,что Аанг не чувствует землю в металле,как бы ни старался

Important info I believe should be in there is that Korra struggled with airbwnding just as much as aang struggled with earthbending and that korra only opened a spirit portal because of the energy of the attack combined with hers it wasn’t something she could just will I to existence
