    This is such an incredible interview. 4:01 - The timing of his accidental double-entendre, the one audience member's delighted squeal, his charming reaction, and the audience losing it is such a great moment.
    He was a phenomenal artist and truly missed.

    I honestly don’t think George ever recovered from the trauma of that entrapment/arrest. He put a brave face and some humor on it, but what an awful thing to have to go through.
    May he rest in peace.

      He made a record out of it, "Outside", which went to Number 1 or 2 along with a video to it which was one big laugh at the police officer. George coped with it in the way he usually does with everything else - make some music.

    George was so incredibly witty. I loved the fact that he could certainly take a joke about himself and was so open and honest about who he was and what he was all about. He was a brilliant artist and when you combine that with his Humanity he was very rare indeed.
    George said he wanted to leave songs behind that would endure time. There's no doubt that 50 years from now there will still be Careless Whisper and Last Christmas on the radio. Rest in peace George your legacy is secure❤.

    Dave does a good job here with his interviewing techniques. He's showing an essence of the old Howard Stern, where Stern was able to cut to the chase with his celebrity guests and ask the really graphic, naughty questions that the average Joe on the street wants to hear about for entertainment while somehow getting the guests to actually answer them. Dave's pulling that off here (and also being funny at the same time). 👍

      Seeing as that was the only topic, it seemed more like Dave giving an opportunity for George to tell his side of this specific incident when he likely couldn't trust typical entertainment media feeding frenzy.
      It was a huge story in sensationalized media.

    • @bradpreston7779
      @bradpreston7779 Před 16 dny +2

      The show was in 480i until switching to HD in 2005, so even upscaled to 1080, you’re still only seeing this segment in 480i.

    • @Lexarus2
      @Lexarus2 Před 16 dny

      Have a bit hard to believe that and when it comes to technical factors, I doubt that the actual recordings on Letterman, and/or other shows even in the 90's like Friends/Seinfeld etc., are inferior to 480i. You have quality that looks better than this on CZcams even with videos from the 80's that are uploaded in HD in proportion with this foggy picture.

    • @bradpreston7779
      @bradpreston7779 Před 16 dny

      @@Lexarus2 That’s because “Friends,” “Seinfeld,” “Cheers” and numerous older shows that have been upgraded to HD were shot on 35mm film. In the medium of television for about five decades, that was the exception and not the rule. Most TV series were shot on videotape, and videotape is low resolution. You’re not going to get true HD out of it.
      Film, on the other hand, is a very high-resolution medium. This is why just about every surviving movie going back to the advent of cinema is now available in HD, and it’s also why “Seinfeld,” “Friend,” and a heap of drama series from the ‘50s through the ‘90s are now available in HD, as well.
      But most TV shows from the ‘50s through the ‘00s were shot on videotape, because it was much cheaper than film, it was easier to light, and it was reusable. Talk shows (including Letterman’s NBC and CBS shows), game shows, and most sitcoms from that era were shot on tape. You’re just not going to be able to remaster it to HD.
      Also, Letterman recorded his show at about 5:30 p.m. for air at 11:35. You can’t shoot a “live” show on film and have it ready for air in five hours. But tape is instant.

    • @bradpreston7779

      @@Lexarus2 “Seinfeld” and “Friends” were shot on 35mm film, which is a high-resolution format, and that’s why they’ve been remastered in 4K. But most TV from the mid-‘50s through the early ‘00s was shot on videotape.
      Videotape was widely used in the pre-HD days because it was much cheaper than film. It was also easier to light, and it was reusable (which is why a lot of TV as recently as the mid-‘80s is lost forever; ask Johnny Carson’s estate and the crew of the original “Jeopardy!” about that).
      Videotape is also a low-resolution format, so for every sitcom that can be remastered in HD, there’s ten other sitcoms from the era that are stuck forever in 480i purgatory.
      Letterman shot his show every weeknight from 5:30-6:30 p.m. for a same-night airing at 11:35. In the pre-HD days, videotape was the perfect medium for talk shows because, amongst other reasons, it didn’t need to be developed in a darkroom. It was ready for air immediately.
      Simply put, when you see a decades-old TV show or music video in stunning and true HD/4K, it was shot on film. But count your lucky stars, because film was the exception to the rule in those days.

      Good info. :)
      And I am actually very much aware of what you have said, but considering that Letterman was so popular, one would assume that they had better raw material for a certain quality. Especially when American industries are concerned with qualities in show business.
