- Well well well... 8 months later, dkoldies finally acknowledges the controversy. But they still seem to be skirting around taking the blame..? They claim to actually be refurbishing consoles now, but are they?

Kinda surprised how positive the comments are on their new short… it’s not like they haven’t lied about refurbishing before…
Edit: I'd recommend checking my community post tab to see their latest post and my response. I've officially decided I'm not sending anymore money their way.
Yea, people should be pushing for quality products from his company.
Astroturfing
This is why I'm starting my own retro gaming business that guarantees refurbishing and the warranty does NOT void if you open the consoles, so you can review the inside and still send it back if it is not to your standards.
@@retrogamer848 Great to see you starting a business, I hope it succeeds and I will subscribe to you! :)
@@BlueCraftXDIsnottaken thanks, opening and refurbishing/fixing is something that I love to do, so I will provide quality products to my customers.
I think you should buy more from them. You also need to make sure they don't find out it's you buying them. This way they can't just send you some clean consoles to make themselves look good.
My only gripe would be, yeah Jacob could buy more consoles that are deemed refurbished, but chances are if they have a unit on the shelf that is already deemed 'refurbished' prior to dkoldies new refurbish procedure, current consoles bought could still be dirty because I doubt dk is going to refurbish units on the shelves. Maybe buy 6 months from now and see.
He needs to buy an OG 360 and see if they replace thermal paste
@@quinto6Yo I know that crossed my mind as well.
nah that will make them richest
Uh no
Finally he did, it’s such a shame customers get screwed over by him. Now he has admitted it.
Well, acknowledged it.
AFAIK he's just a face and not the only one responsible.
@@PrimeRetroGamer Yea, I do know. I just mean the company and himself acknowledging it in a video
screw that dude. they gaslighted us for MONTHS
Joey isn’t the CEO of Dkoldies
Joey is probably getting screwed over by the ceo
I think lawyers are telling them what to say at this point. They were being sued a couple months ago (not sure where that is nowadays)
Even when they're "admitting" to wrongdoing, they're still snaking their way around details, like a "few" dirty consoles and "slighty" higher prices, and using corporate munbo jumbo to cushion their acknowledgment. They haven't changed one bit.
Welcome to the nature of business. Does their shareholders no good to admit any actual fault. Just pretend it's all isolated issues and they're "changing the refurb process" out of the goodness of their own hearts.
What I don't understand is WHY wasn't this the all time standard.. . They're lawsuit scared them so they can't skate by anymore
Would love to see of they're actually doing it this time. Rich from reviewtech USA said he's gonna have to get another one now, so I'd love to see your luck as well with their "new" refurbishment process
Lol no way they changed. Anything with a fan will still be Full of dust.
I'm willing to bet their sales started to take a hit. It took 8 months for them to "address" the issue because, I think, they were hoping that as time passed, people would forget about the entire situation. Well, this may be the proof that their bottom line took a MAJOR hit. I think it's amazing that you, Review Tech USA & a couple others were calling DK Oldies out & holding their feet to the fire. Keep up the good work.
I would hope their bottom line took a hit. paying 200%+ more for a worse condition console than I could buy on EBAY. a PS2 slim for $170. go home DK oldies. you're smoking crack.
I'm just surprised they acknowledged and finally said something

S/o to you and other CZcamsrs for holding businesses accountable and forcing them to improve. W for the gaming community
Now if only game developers would start listening to the community then the true w will be served.
@@jetgames2282most of the gamer content creators are sponsored/payed off and will double down even if the game sucks, saw it with starfield, within a day the game came out all the content creators were giving it 10/10 and saying how good it was but then it turned out to be one of the worst games ever made
The reason they waited so long is probably because they'd recieve a butt-ton of backlash and they were waiting until everyone forgot about them. As you said their comments are relatively positive now, and they def weren't a couple of months ago.
Their views have also declined a lot since then, so that's probably why.
The inspection tag showing what was done sounds to me like that had so e rouge employees in the “refurbishment department” pencil whipping forms which is how the controversy even happened. Now they can track who is and isn’t doing their job. But we will see I guess.
If I were to guess though, they only replace capacitors and/or thermal paste if one gets returned by someone for reasons associated with those items.
Pretty sure they'll still be able to bullshit the inspection forms. This is all a face saving move to keep the investors happy in the light of bad publicity.
The corporate gaslighting is next level from those crooks.
Yeah, I’m also like 99% sure they made a short answering the same question a few days prior, but were defensive like usual and then showed a group of people around a table ‘refurbishing’ consoles. unfortunately i think they deleted it, without anyone downloading it.
Certainly seems like they’re fishing for relevance again😅
They are always relevant because they post shorts showing off hundreds of these retro consoles, its so cool and such a shame that they aren't being cared for properly
@@gavwreckerit's so cool?
My guess on the reason that DKOldies didn't test that PS4 you got back in April was because they probably assume "It's a new gen console, if it looks like it works then it works". Same with their refurbishing, they probably think "if it's a new gen console, how dirty can it be?"
It's also more difficult to take those apart . They weren't touching anything that takes more than 2 minutes to disassemble .
Ps4 isn't new gen that thermal paste is probably 8 years old. Any console that's 5 years old should have their paste changed in the refurbishing process.
@@TechMatticzmaybe he meant a newer generation console
@@bryanobrien2726then they dont do their job then because that was literally their job to do refurb that is the bare minimum
@@dxtremecaliber Agreed . Laziness is no excuse .
Ya Jacob, I would love to see some more consoles from dkoldies on your channel. I always click on those instantly just to see your evaluation on if they actually did a good job "refurbishing"!
I'd love to see a continuation to the dkoldies saga
Glad to be witnessing history. Good step forward.
Would love a continuation of the DKOldies sega. I also agree with you, I remember looking at the DKOldies refurbishment page the other day and I felt it was very vague and potentially misleading on wether they actually open all the consoles and properly refurbish them.
*saga
He has to review the games themselves and not consoles anymore
I ordered a bunch of Genesis games from them this year. The prices weren't unreasonable, but one of the cartridges didn't work. I had to ship it all the way back to the States from The Netherlands, which I didn't like, but I did get the costs of the game, shipping and some extra back. So I was satisfied in the end.
I found it hilarious how the closed caption called them " Decay " oldies. 😂
That's quite accurate, about their consoles, and about the company itself lmao
I think you should buy and review another one. It would help the community make informed purchase decisions based on the new information.
I hope they are cleaning testing and all now they really just need to look at these review video's and think what can we do better and the pricing does need to come down Great Content Man.💯😊
Some here in PA may consider April still winter. May is definitely spring though
Definitely man I would want you to buy some consoles from them to see are they really backing there words with the changes in the refurbishment process like Joey is saying the stickers and verify work they done like Joey is saying just cooperate talk
I totally get you not wanting to give them anymore money, regardless if it's for content or not, but I know I'd be very interested to see some more teardowns.
Would love to see you buy more consoles and open them up!
I would really love to see if they actually are applying new thermal paste I feel like that is one of the biggest things that they have never done, so if you buy another console from them I'm all down to see the whole process
The weird thing is they sell grouped lots of for parts or not working consoles on their eBay account all the time. I don't understand their refurbishment process if they are not able to fix everything or have too much? I would question the knowledge/experience of what they can repair I guess.
tbf we have to give ppl the opportunity to improve and change. It seems like theyre trying and the least we can do is give them a chance. I also appreciate what you do and holding ppl and businesses accountable. its just important to know where to draw the line and remain objective.
Thank you for doing these videos. It’s quite obvious that DK Oldies is a scam and if people see these videos and still order from them are getting what they deserve. It’s the unknowing customer who deserve better.
Yah And I already felt like they charged to much to begin with. And you never really are sure what you are getting. This is why I usually shop ebay if I cannot find what I am looking for locally. I like to see what I am getting in person. But you have alot of dishonest ebay sellers to. But for the most part, I have gotten what was advertised on there. As well as photos. But they don't always do justice.
Give them a try again to see if they are still scamming people on there cleaning and refurbishing policies. Plus I agree with what you said about what refurbishing is in your previous videos.
The only thing I thank dkoldies for, is giving Jacob something to make videos about which led me to finding his channel 🤣 also this whole thing has got me interested in opening up my consoles to keep them clean so they have a better lifespan. Thanks Jacob!
that blur picture towards the ending must be joey face 🤣
I love the subtitles in the short. It says „decay oldies“.
Regardless, even if they actually are finally doing what they say they do....the prices are just way to insane. I do not get why people will pay 3x what something is worth from them.
Is this a repost of the Facebook video? I feel like I've seen this one before with the dkoldies bit at the start lol
Why was the end blurred out lol, its just Joeys face with his forehead being huge.
Gaming consoles would be a good option. However, what about the handheld gaming consuls? Nobody's checked to make sure that those are being tested and cleaned.
@JacobR
Jacob, my vote is to buy a few systems that are known to be difficult to work on and refub. If they deliver the goods, then they should be praised from kicking it up a notch or two and doing better. If not, they should be called out. But if you're going to do it, make sure they don't know who you are during purchase.
Along with them getting their act together, I believe the best way for DKOldies to really get their head's out of their asses is to start for the main root of the problem, the owner. From what other videos in the past have stated, it's clearly the management having all these issues and the true beginning of the management starts from the owner(s) themselves. Weeding them out will singlehandely help the business.
I definitely want to see you get atleast one more thing to see how it will be.
2:17 yes if see if they actually refurbished their consoles now they said in the short, they now refers the consult
Yeah I’d definitely like to see how their consoles look with their “new and improved” process
Fight this battle to the very end, sooner or later something will happen that’ll cause this mountain of chaos to shake
Does it not make sense for only non functioning consoles to be completely repaired? I'm sure other places don't go as far as replacing capacitors and thermal past on every single console.
Looks like they are just saying the same thing they have always said about "refurbing everything" but this time they just changed a few things and said that that's what they are now doing...even though they said that's what they were doing in the first place.
Don't want to order more but it would complete things if finally you got a good one it's like closing a book
I mean...if you and other CZcamsrs/influencers go and buy consoles now just to see if they're actually refurbished correctly now, they've achieved the goal regardless if they are or not. They're in the business of making money by selling consoles and games. If you and others buy the consoles just to see if they've upgraded the refurbishing process, congratulations to them. They've sold consoles and made money.
Yes PLEASE review more of their consoles
I say wait about 1-2 months prior to buying to not give them any excuse that they didnt have time to refurbirsh tthe items. TThen after a couple of months buy a couple of items to test them on their word.
I don’t live in the US, but I have watched your videos on the DKOldies consoles and I definitely find the responses to be highly suspicious. I think this comes across as face saving tactics. Either way I hope they step up their efforts and make an honest effort to improve.
yes. I want to see it. I want to see what they have done!
About time they realized. Hopefully this changes everything but with Drew, i’m really not sure considering it’s Drew. Does anyone miss buying games from stores sometimes or is it just me? Can’t wait to check out more content though, Jacob R.
Don't spend any more money with them. You've done enough and it's appreciated
Sucks because i spent $120 on them a few days ago for a PS1 and now I realized that they don’t refurbish their products
@@BuffedAcheron yea, that sucks. This company is nothing but a bunch of frauds
Either getting sued or their sales were down. Possibly both
Might need to start checking these eBay refurbished items also Jacob.
They need to be changing the paste on EVERYTHING they get, not just the ones that obviously need it. Little Timmy's old 360 that still has a warranty sticker on it and has never been opened sounds like a jet engine when turned on, but it plays games so ship it out? That seems to still be the MO.
The way I'm reading it is all consoles go through there "cleaning process" which pretty much means there gonna pop the top off and blow all the dirt out but all consoles that are deemed "broken/not working" go through there "repair process" which includes all the previous "cleaning process" plus replacing capacitors thermal paste etc so in a roundabout way no there not doing anything different and they put this up as a safeguard from being sued in the future
The images on the monitor always crack me up.
My question is will they refurb all the consoles they have in inventory ready to sell? I doubt it, that sounds like big undertaking. I suspect this new policy only counts for new incoming consoles, so if you bought one now I expect it will be the same old DKO-like dirty console on the inside
You have to love the internet...so many people/companies get caught out in scams, but the people of internet come together and they definitely do not let these scammers forget it.
Ok a 1year warranty on a E01 or A01 would be lit . Might actually justify price if they replace all the stuff,I'd run it 365 days a year and see if it broke. Then get replacement
Buy a few consoles and see if this is true. I feel that if it actually is we need to give them at least some credit for not completely ignoring the issue and just continuing as they always have but if its still a lie then it again needs to be called out but we can't do that without checking first. Its possible they really did restructure the business which could have taken a while with all their product if that is the case so we need to find out.
How come you didn’t see the replies they were writing to people in the community tab? I haven’t known anyone that used a Facebook in 10 years
if you do end up buying from them to see if the refurbishment process has actually been improved hopefully you can make it look like your just a average customer so they don't just refurbish the consoles because the console will be in a video
i'd agree on get some of the commonly troublesome consoles and give benifit of the doubt if they're finally turning around. (and like before seek out a CECHA01 PS3, Pre Jasper 360, etc.)
They're either getting sued or some kind of legal action was taken against them. This doesnt just happen out of the blue. Perhaps an undercover investigator went in? Who knows but its weird.
lol the auto generated subtitles nailed it there. "decay oldies" haha.
That is exactly what is going on. New legal department and legal copy write.
Only way to see if they’ve changed is buy some more consoles to see. I would get something old like an nes I guarantee they don’t change the regulator or paste on it and those get hot
I live in Pennsylvania we do not have winter year round its currently 90
I want them talk about how are Rewards work or Store Credit works bu they never show us cause he never does a video about there customers use them or anything..idk if it’s fake
With the amount of money they bring in, they should have a refurbishing department with its own boss rather it just being a couple of employees.
You should buy the consoles but allow some time to pass. I'd imagine that they would be doing this for the first few months before they fall back into their old habits. I'd say buy from them 3-6 months out and then inspect.
i would wait for a few months as i bet there not going to do any think to existing stock only new in take stock
The ever evolving picture of Joey’s face is why I tune into these videos
"... the insides were dirty." YA THINK!? Took them long enough... As far as caps... most of these caps are over 20 years old or more, even if not most are liquid electrolyte even if modern, the should ALL be replaced... SMH.
I have feeling if you do get a console and it is dirty they would say something along the lines of "Sorry I'm not sure how something this happened. It appears you were sent some of our old stock that hasn't been through our new refurbishment process.".
I’d love to see if they are genuinely replicating thermal paste now
We need you to buy a few and check for yourself and expose them
I wanna see if they really do it know i would love to see a video about it
I rather support local shop. Where im from we have a few but they are stacked to the brim with retro beyond believe. Its unreal the stuff I find for fair prices and you layaway, get warranty, get stuff fixed and even get discount if you buy bulk. Its like going to the avgn basement at times
Hopefully they actually are unlike last time they said they do.
At this point, how can you not buy more consuls and test then?
Looks like they watched the Linus tech tips video and took some notes on damage control...
They made a short saying that the stickers are magically removed now. But neglected to mention the void in warranties.
If you do buy all that again, are you going to be going through the hoops of getting others to order, buying one/two at a a time, spacing out the orders, etc...?
Because with the time it'd take to avoid them just sending you primo preps: I dunno if this would be worth your time... 😬
I'd still watch it though! 😅
The wording of their refurbishing process clearly says to me that they are only replacing thermal paste, replacing capacitors, etc. if the console is having clear issues and needs to be repaired. However, they really need to be doing certain things to all consoles, and the thermal paste/capacitors should be dealt with no matter if the console is “working” or not. It seems like a way for them to avoid putting in the work to truly refurbish all consoles and only do work when necessary.
I think their revenue last 6-8 months have probably went down like 50%, and they know they need to face it to try to move on. I think when doing research when buying a console, ppl see to say away from em.🤷♂️
Please buy something, in their short it says they have a sticker with everything done to the console, it would be infuriating if "thermal paste" was checked without TP being really reapplied.
I think it’s the matter of a small company that blew up. Everybody started talking about them so they had to meet demands and send out as much stuff as possible. In their minds they’re prolly thinking there’s no way they can check and fix everything so they do what they can and slap a warranty on it hoping for the best. Yes this could be misleading but again I don’t think they were expecting it to get this big where they sell lots of stuff. Not trying to excuse it just my 2 cents
Uhm, they were pushing themselves out there with nostalgia bait TikToks even before they welcomed in Joey and further tried to incentivize new customers by showing off their order and including a free goodie for being featured. Even before all that, they ran ads for if you googled where to buy retro games; I’ve even had them come up on CZcams, so I don’t think they were growing at a rate they couldn’t fulfill
@@damian9303 point taken
I thought it was fishy, so I commented on that same video and said, the process changed, to satisfy the customer or to not get sued again??? Lol
If you do decide to buy from them again, make sure they can't tell it's you to avoid any kind of special CZcamsr treatment
wait about a 2 weeks. Then get a OG xbox to see that they replace the capacitor, a early xbox 360 to see if they fix the overheating problem and put new paste, and a OG ps3 to see if they really clean them out
the funny thing is dk oldies is admitting they were not properly cleaning them by saying from now on we will be blah blah blah, me over here like why were you not doing that from the get go.
Very simple answer to this. I expect have just hired a PR team. Now they are in positive PR overdrive.
Like others said, if you buy something else from them just make sure they don't know it's you.
They are trying to use the gap in us talking about them as much to reset algorithms ahead of holiday Black Friday sales because Joey needs a new wig.
