- Fathis Ulven was an assassin who had the misfortune to work for the wrong client. He spent over a century imprisoned in the darkest depths of the imperial city dungeons, before being shipped to Morrowind. There he eventually became the archmagister of Great House Telvanni, and the Nerevarine of prophecy - a reincarnation of the ancient war leader of the Dunmer people, Indoril Nerevar. Beneath Red Mountain he slew the devil Dagoth Ur, and took the fabled Heart of Lorkhan, using its divine energies to become a god, just as the Tribunal had done before him. Then, however, things suddenly all went a bit wrong...

#skyrim #elderscrolls #roleplay - Hry
I think Lucan's comment about the golden claw's size is meant to imply he'd sort of conflated its importance in his head. It was a big deal to him that his precious ornament was stolen, and then he got all worked up about it, but then when he finally sees it again it's not quite as he'd remembered it. That's more or less how I've always interpreted it, anyway.
I had that exact thought too, like maybe its a bit meta that this quest he put so much importance on, but of course your the one who left with the real treasure.
Or maybe it was similar to gold coins in the past. Hence why there’s a law that states you aren’t allowed to modify coins. Due to people clipping off the edges until they had enough gold. That’s what I always assumed what he meant
Hmm... Guess I'm the odd one out when I thought it was something bethesda poked fun at with the claw maybe being resized to fit into the puzzle door's keyhole...
Could also be that the player sees Alduin not long before the golden claw, and the ornament is clearly nowhere close to what Alduin's feet look like. So that line from Lucan helps to clear up the difference in the players' minds. You may think this is really really dumb and of course you would be right, but this is Skyrim we're talking about. Treating players like braindead loaves of bread is the core of the world.
This is exactly how I interpreted it. I never thought it to be any deeper than that.
Dave trying to make sure Lydia doesn't suffer the same fate as last time lol
In regards to Fathis with long blades.
There's a terrific movie out there called Quigley Down Under in which a frontier sniper goes to Australia. At one point am antagonist taunts him about not carrying a pistol, to which he says he never had much use for them. Later he's forced into a pistol duel with that antagonist and wins demonstrating great skill. As the antagonist lays dying the sniper says "Said I never had much use for them, not that I didnt know how to use them"
"He was no slouch with long blade, either." Ah yes, I recall him favoring Goldbrand. You're on Anniversary Edition, so perhaps another of his treasures for him to recover...!
The stars have aligned. Fathis is never late nor early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
40:05 I think what that line of dialogue about it seeming smaller might be him thinking someone shaved some of the gold off of it or melted it down, took some of the gold out and recast it in a smaller size to cover it up. The former was something that often happened to coins even after the Americas seceded from Great Britain.
IT IS FATHISDAY EVERYONE!
It makes sense that Fathis wouldn't get involved in Dawnguard, the one sticking point being a Legacy Of The Dragonborn spoiler -
.
- if you don't have access to the Forgotten Vale, the "main" questline (the Explorer's Guild) gets stuck on a large cliffhanger, and there's no in-character way to know that the snow elven ruins you need to find are locked behind vampire stuff. At least it doesn't affect Shattered Legacy though, and I think that one is far more relevant to Fathis. But Explorer's Guild is the one that rolls credits.
I'm not sure why fathis wouldn't want to become a vampire lord tbh
Power an immortality were/are his core character motivations and vamp lords get both.
@@jay15951
Well for starters
-Undeath is in this loadorder and nobody takes the good route in that quest because all the good stuff is locked behind becoming a lich. Now lore wise it isn’t said that a vampire cannot be a lich but it makes no sense to have a vastly superior version of immortality to one with a weakness to sunlight. All that being said I say presumably because Dave has a history of not finishing playthroughs or using all the mods in one of his playthroughs if the story has no place for it that Fathis will become a lich at some point.
But Shattered Legacy can't be progressed while an excavation quest is running. (no dialog options) Gopher/Leonard was stuck for 3 chapters until he cleared out Windcaller Pass. So let's hope that Dave doesn't start the third excavation questline by accident.
god i love this series, i’ve watched the whole thing on and off the last week and i really like it, i love the switch between fathis and dave and o really want to see more so keep it up dave it’s really good
Yeah, I really hope he continues the series.
Still so glad you’re doing a skyrim let’s play once more. You been the best and most engaging let’s player since I was a kid and the only one I still watch to this day so thank you for all the amazing content over the years 💕
I agree about the health bar central alignment playing with your perception of how much health you have left.
Fun fact about Jenassa: She's one of three followers in vanilla Skyrim that can dual wield melee weapons, and the only one programmed to do so properly. The other two can only use pickaxes in their off hands, whereas Jenassa can wield any one handed weapons in her off hand.
I think the strength of Morrowind’s magic system was that you could cheese it really hard and it felt like a wink and a nod to the developers when you did so. It could also punish you right back and that made it supremely satisfying. I realized with Skyrim the devs felt more like the watchful DM making sure you don’t break the game when, for example I realized you couldn’t create a potion that boosts alchemy or enchant an item that boosts enchantment. But Skyrim’s combat features with respect to magic greatly improved and it really did make it feel more dynamic. I am also very optimistic with how ES6 will perform.
Archmagister of House Telvanni how may I serve!?
Far as I know the lunar weapons have nothing to do with Azura. They are disliked by vampires,so unless she is anti-vampire seems unlikely. The only deity also connected to the moons is apprently Lorkhan.Lore hints Jenassa was Morag Tong, definitely your kind of girl.Combat enchantments don't work on NPCs.Resistance ones do,possibly carryweight works.
glad your feeling better dave!
I think our dunmer friend needs a house to safeguard his treasures...
I think the comment Lucan makes about the claw being smaller than he remembers just has to do with him being money- hungry and he’s assuming a bit of said “solid gold ornament” was shaved off for (presumably) your own pockets
As if he doesn’t fully believe you weren’t the thief yourself, but is just glad to have it back in the first place so he can use it for his own profit
Maybe Inigo would like some moons related weapons :^p
I agree, health bar burning from both end is confusing/annoying.
56:40 just when I was worried your one-handed skills were falling off XD
So glad to see Fathis is back!
Welcome back Dave, and hope you stay well ;)
My interpretation of he golden claw comment has always been that it's a reference to "clipping" coinage - he automatically asssumes you've been trimming bits of gold off "his" claw before giving it back to him. i generally repay the insult by stealing it right back off him, though it only ever gets in the way thereafter ;P
I think the health bar thing would have been easier to judge with a number in the middle showing x/x like on the enemy mod you have.
Fathis was really like
The backpack: His current one
The backpack she tells you not to worry about: Has a potion and a scroll and a soul gem on it
It is here, huzzah!
Sincerely can't wait to explore the Alik'r with needs mods. Having to stay cool and hydrated in a massive procedurally generated desert with hidden gems here and there sounds awesome.
The "seems smaller" comment might be a nod to the practice of coin clipping, which seems like a thing the bloke that stole it would do. At least that's how I always interpreted it.
Same here, or that he was slyly implying you’d taken some gold from it, damned imperials.
I also absolutely despise the center-justified health bars
Y'know, I was JUST wondering when we'd get more Fathis!
The extra long episode is appreciated.
I just always figured Luke and was being snarky and accusing you of shaving down the gold for your own greed. I love all the speculations and could see them all as valid
In case you aren't aware (I have no idea how familiar you are with Legacy of the Dragonborn) the museum has a great player base you can use which has everything you could ever need already built in; a forge, a smelter, an enchanting table, an alchemy table, etc. It would be a great place to "store" any companions you've "collected" that you don't want following you at that time. They'd all be in one place in case you ever wanted to come back to them.
Finally been watching omg I’m so excited
53:08 I use TrueHUD preset based on Nordic UI, it has linear left aligned stat bars, and a linear enemy health bar which I moved to the bottom of the screen and upscaled with less intrusive hud. Athough it also makes the shout meter into a celtic knot circle which looks very nice but is much harder guage remaining cooldown than the linear bar in my opinion.
NPCs benefit from SOME enchantments in Skyrim, though I forget which ones. I think carry weight is one that works.
Whoever made that mod with the beacon shrines must've played DA Inquisition, lol.
I definitely agree that in Skyrim it's way too easy to get rich. I can't remember if I've talked about this in the comments before, I know I've had this conversation with my partner irl though which is Skyrim doesn't have any (repeatable) money sinks in game. There's houses and magic, but once you have those you have those.
Charging weapons you have to do yourself, can't pay someone to do it.
You can't even pay for enchanting services, you have to do that yourself too.
They took out weapon and armor repair (I personally never minded repairing armor and weapons, but I get, it was kinda busy work) so you can't pay anyone to do that.
There's the carriages, but those are relatively inexpensive (which is fine, I don't need a carriage ride to cost 100+ gold or whatever)
So there's really not an ingame way to use your money. You can buy potions and arrows and like equipment but there's no services that you can use as a money sink for the in game economy. And eventually you end up with so many potions and other equipment that you don't really need to buy that stuff.
Unrelated but I agree that Dawnguard is Really Long. I've got my problems with Dawnguard, but it does feel like a grand adventure with how long it is.
If three is a crowd, then four is a company.👌
RE the comments on selling potions and already being rich: you've chosen the wrong overhauls with enairim if you're worried about game balance mate.
❤❤❤❤Yay Fathis!!! My weekend was saved! Loved it!❤❤❤
It's back!
Don't worry about forgetting things, we're already used to it!
paper map, there is a mod for that! couldn't resist.
prob a mod for the healthbar issue too.
dawnguard claudius you could tell you weren't enjoying it for the last half it made me feel bad for you.
Sometimes if you've had something for a long time, and then you lose it, and find it again, your mind takes stock of it, anew, and sometimes, especially if he found it when he was younger, the properties of things can suddenly seem different. I figured that's what they were referring to.
I feel like if he thought you were shaving gold off of it, he'd be FAR more upset at you, whereas the comment as it's presented is just an idle, "Huh, funny that..." with no hints of suspicion, so that explanation doesn't make much sense, to me.
2:00 It'd be interesting if Lydia would actually do something about it if you acted in a way Balgruff strongly disapproves of, as far as I know she doesn't do anything about it even if you help the Imperials invade Whiterun.
She will report you if you commit crimes in Whiterun Hold.
Does receiving a sword from a (dead) watery trollop lying in a pond mean Fathis is now the high king?
I like to think Claudius is still back in the skyrim mountains with the Legion lads in this alt. universe.
P.S.
(It occurs to me I may be misremembering his backstory, but damn it I’m not checking)
You're right. He was stationed in the mountains near Bruma.
Hello Dave. Not sure you read youtube comments or anything, and you rarely post channel updates anymore. But is is it safe to say the Jzirr let’s play is over?
Super long term fan of your elder scrolls content. Keep smashing it and of course, if you aren’t feeling it, i totally understand stopping.
:)
I can't speak for Dave but in my experience a series isnt over until it's declared so explicitly. If you watch his Twitch Streams/VODs theres usually a good hour or so of him talking with the chat at the start and thats the most reliable source of how things are going with Dave which informs your understanding of channel output.
I'm hoping to start chapter 2 of J'zirr later this year.
@@SorcererDave Oh okay, awesome. Thanks :)
@@SorcererDavebeen too long since we had a chapter based series we’re all looking forward to it take your time!
Why not using all that newly aquired wealth to buy a storage unit (Breezehome) to put all your books and weighty stuff in, until you get a real library.
40:35 I've just... never really thought about it. Maybe the talons were supposed to embed or something?
46:51 I think for Skyrim it might be more hair-splitting. Like some passive enchantments work fine and others don't. I know Fortify Health works, and I think the Resists work.
48:35 It sure is a skill name, isn't it?
49:00 I'm sorry, after the previous bit about skill names "He wasn't a slouch with long blades" is just funny.
53:08 100% agree. Skyrim started em, and FO4 kept it, and I just don't like them.
56:06 I think most of my characters join the Dawnguard because they get tired of the attacks, and just go "Well, if you're all incompetent, maybe you can point me in the direction of the attackers at least."
1:00:36 As I've said many times, my ideal TES game lies between Oblivion and Skyrim. The magic systems are part of that.
I think that him saying it's smaller than he remembers is him inffering that he's seeing it for the first time. Like he sent you to find what was stolen from someone else. That's just how it seemed to me. A bit schetchy.
Multiple people comment on how his shop was burgled, including a conversation with his sister, which it seemed like they didn't intend anybody else to hear. Would make no sense for him to lie about it, considering the circumstances.
Oof, yeah, the default HP bar sucks and I really can't play Skyrim without a UI mod that changes it to just be a bar that fills one way orz
Nah, everyone hates Skyrim ui. That's why they try to port it to Morrowind/ :/
What’s he playing as a wood elf?
51:22 Why not use a paper map mod?
Honestly? Because I tried a couple of different ones in the Claudius LP and they constantly bugged out or broke. A paper map would be nice but I don't need the stress!
@@SorcererDave I still have the original printed paper map that came with the physical copy of Skyrim back in the day. If you had a PO box or something I'd happily send it to you. Impractical, yes, but quite a fun way to play.
Hope you're feeling better! Rona is no joke, even now.
