  • Engine was recently replaced under recall by Kia, after about a month or so, it again developed a knocking noise. Customer bought it to us to have us take a look at it and see what we find.

But the engine would not have displayed the P1326 code, am I right? So you are completely correct to keep an open mind and help your customer in a professional way. I would be upset too if I had my engine replaced and now this happened. For all reasons would there not have been additional warranty on the engine replacement? You did absolutely the right thing: Not making any assumptions. Well done!

Error code P1326 occurs due to vibrations indicating excessive connecting rod bearing wear. You can easily detect them using the KSDS (Knock Sensor Detection System). Since severe engine damage and failure are possible, this device notifies the driver about a preceding phase of bearing wear.

ok can anyone advise me??? im so confused, my 2013 kia soul engine is making this same exact noise, it never stopped running ..but i immediately had it towed to mechanic after hearing the noise. it came out of nowhere. my oil had nearly all leaked out or burned off without my knowledge. but there was a wee bit of splatter on the dipstick. i read that even if theres barely any on the stick that doesnt mean its completely out?? idk. car had absolutely nosymptoms til one day, at 101k miles, it started knocking.
my mechanic didnt even go into specfics, he texted me and said something is really wrong. he said they went to look at the engine and pulled the fuel pump out and it fell apart in his hand?
he recommmended total engine replacement but im so reluctant because he said kia doesnt even make these engines anymore. so if i buy one itll have to be used. these engines seem notorious. so how do i know my replacement wont have a similar issue?
so i had the car towed back home. the mechanic warned me it wouldnt start at all now because of the fuel pump or whatever
well that was a month ago now. its been sitting the whole time. tonight i was getting some things out of the kia, cleaning it out..sat in it and turned the battery to see it all was still well there.
decided to turn the key and it still turned over? like ,i probably could have driven away ?
still making the same awful knocking sound akin to the sound in this video
but why did the engine still turn over?
was my mechanic wrong? should i use my last AAA tow of the year to take it to get a second opinion elsewhere??

However in the mornings when I start it it makes this "spinning-kinda" noise for about an hour and then goes away. Once the engine is really hot it runs fine and smooth. Any suggestions? To be fair, the new Kia products have reverted to MPI engines. They recognized the problem with GDI and went back to something more reliable. I have a 2021 Kia Forte with the 2.0L MPI engine, I am finding it easy to get 4.7L/100km (50MPG) on the highway. They are making some of the most efficient gas cars on the market. I also paid $21k for a brand new car in the past year, which is amazing considering the prices of everything, and the Forte isn't tiny, its their mid-sized car. You can fit plenty in it.

That customer got a new engine replaced under warranty, even though it wasn't the problem? LOL! With a water pump replacement those are some major parts, they just got lucky and will have a vehicle that will last them many, many more years. Would be worth replacing the transmission (if ever needed) to keep that vehicle many more years. Throw a new coat of paint on it and its basically brand new again. I'd paint it with real color like bright blue, yellow, sparkling burnt orange; none of this boring/drab white/black/gray/silver nonsense that dominates the roads today.
