Ron Reusch did the play by play for CTV here and in the 1976 and 1984 Canada Cups. Dan Kelly who did the play by play for the 1979 Challenge Cup games with Danny Gallivan on CBC Hockey Night In Canada did the 1987 Canada Cup.
Well, that's the best six players ever to play for a team in the history of hockey for the USSR. The by-product of losing in Lake Placid. It gave VT reign to jettison off of the veterans, bring in Larionov, and dominate hockey for a decade - even after Tretiak retired.
Tretyak was certainly the best goalie the USSR ever had, Fetisov the best defenceman and Makarov arguably the best forward. And the Green Unit definitely the best five-man unit. However, there have been better Soviet players than Larionov, Kasatonov and Krutov, like Firsov and Kharlamov. BTW, the top line doesn't play very well in this game; the Kapustin-Shepelev-Shalimov line is much better in this one.
