Are Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity Genetic? | “Glucose Goddess” Jessie Inchauspé

  • Levels Co-Founder Casey Means, MD, and “Glucose Goddess” Jessie Inchauspé talked about all things glucose and metabolic health, including how much is tied to genetics.
🧬 Inchauspé previously worked at 23andMe. She notes that some genes do increase one’s likelihood of developing Type 2 diabetes and/or obesity.
👯‍♀️ But studies with identical twins (who have the same genetic code) show that one twin may develop Type 2 diabetes while the other doesn’t.
⚠️ Also, Type 2 diabetes used to be called “adult-onset diabetes). Now children develop the condition. Yet our genes haven’t changed over the past 20 years.
⏮️ Type 2 diabetes can also be reversed.
🍽️ We don’t only inherit genes. Our parents also pass down their lifestyle habits. And many things impact those habits.
✅ We do have the power to change those habits to improve our metabolic health and prevent Type 2 diabetes and obesity.

I am T2 diabetic and it’s completely my fault! Once I found out I am diabetic, a year ago, i took it seriously and I cut out flour, sugar, pasta, rice, cornmeal, and most processed foods from my diet!! I’ve lost 100+lbs, and lowered my A1C to 4.6!

Don’t forget to cut out or cut back on animal fat and dairy. Refined carbs play a large role in diabetes but so does saturated and trans fat.

@@rollingthunderinhoRubbish, Animal fat & saturated fat does not cause type 2 diabetes , Diabetes is elevated blood sugar and nothing more.
Yes Trans fats we should stop & dairy can be a problem for some people.
A high fat carnivore diet cures type 2 diabetes.

I heard a quote once: Genetics is a loaded gun, the environment pulls the trigger. You can have susceptibility to an endless number of things - but ultimately, a proper environment will mean you never face those issues.

She is spot on. When me and my parents started living separetely and I changed my diet to feed my actual energy expenses, I lost SOO much weight that people laugh at me when I tell them my school nickname was a "donut". I'm on my way to become fit and healthy.
Honestly just stay away from sugar except fruits and honey, don't drink sugary drinks, stay away from coffee and cigarettes, do a 2-3 days fast every couple of weeks and there is literally no way your t2 diabetis and excessive weight won't be gone. Having omega-3, L-carnitine and sport-type polyvitamins from time to time also helps a lot in a long run

My thesis was on genetic polymorphism associated with risk of type II diabetes and you have a very good point here but the point of the studies is early detection of problems with metabolic pathways in an individual that may make them susceptible to developing diabetes more easily as comoared to people with no such genetic mutations. I think the studies can be useful but then again, nothing can be achieved without an individuals effort at sustaining a healthy lifestyle.

@@maralfniqle5092 i think researches can be done without Doctors involvement. Also where i live, doctors. Barely ever do researches. Yes, after identifying genetic polymorphism, one can collaborate with a endocrinologist or any other specialist related to the area or metabolic pathways that the polymorphism is affecting to produce targeted intervention for an individual.

If you really wanna get mad, you should check out the American diabetes Association and what they recommend as “healthy “food options which are just loaded with carbohydrates. I’m convinced all this shit is on purpose so that pharmaceutical companies can do what they do best and sell pharmaceutical solutions.

If they keep you sick with unhealthy diets, and the cash rolling in they don’t care about your health If they did, they would inform you truthfully, and maybe the federal government would do something about the Diet that is actually being sold to you as healthy for you when it’s not it’s killing you and they know it, so how could it be anything but intentional pathetic
