- Join Alex as he takes you through the steps to replace the original cool blocks with the latest bearing guides from Carter Products
Replacing the original cool blocks with bearing guides reduces blade friction and wear that ultimately prolongs the life of your blades. Bearing guides are simpler to setup and once set rarely have to be adjusted.
Craftsman Original Saw Tune-Up (1 of 3) - Alex walks you through setting up and tuning a Craftsman Original Bandsaw
Craftsman Original Saw with Carter Stabilizer (3 of 3) - Alex adds a Carter Products Stabilizer to enable some unique scroll cutting capabilities

Cannot thank you enough for this 3 part series. I restored this one owner saw from 1971 he said 2 years ago. Did everything but the guides. Now going to order guides and this while be a good saw should be great for what I need it to do
I am so glad I found this. I will be ordering these today!
Great Series! Thank you Sir!
Great video.
Thank you for these videos. Absolutely amazing and will ultimately save me quite a bit of money. Now that my saw is tuned, it will work for what I need it to do.
I have one question. Do the Carter guides add that much value (they are 210 dollars currently)? Will they provide a smoother, cleaner cut or are they just extending life to the blade and reducing some noise? I want to buy them but I want to make sure they will actually enhance the cut (or something similar that provides that type of value).
Hello Alex
Thank you so much for your adjustment videos. I have my 12“ Craftsman 113.24350 purring!
My only problem is when I adjust my up and down blade guard my blocks and thrust bearing go out of adjustment due to the up and down movement rod not repeating its position when set to different height. Do you have any thoughts on this?
Thank you! Frank
Frank there can be slop in that machined guide, you may have to shim it.
Mr. Snodgrass, thank you so much for all this great info. I’ve recently been working to build up my workshop, and I picked up this band saw. I’m having trouble with my 1/2 blade pulling off. I’ve tried different placements on the wheel tire, I’ve tried 100 different tension points. I tried gluing the tires. I have a 1/4” blade and an 1/8” blade that works fine. It’s just the 1/2” blade that is causing problems for me. I even adjusted the screw in the middle of the top wheel that changes the angle of the wheel. Nothing has helped. I bought some new tires, so hopefully that fixes it, otherwise I have no other ideas about how to fix this. Do you have any thoughts? Also, it looks like you have a cast iron table. Mine’s aluminum, I think. I know it’s non-ferrous. Is your table in fact cast iron, and if so, where did you get it?
The new tires should fix your problem. My saw is just an earlier version so the table is cast instead of aluminum
Good info, would help if there was some close-up shots when installing guides.
Olá tudo bem você tem as medidas da lâmina de serra dessa serra fita craftsman 12 " obrigado amigo
Hey I have been looking for these guides. Do you have any that fit the craftsman 12 inch 113.248320? I don’t want to buy them if they are not compatible with the tilt table
Tilt head not table- sorry.

This is the only guide available for a tilt head.
Hi, Alex. I'm not sure of how to get a hold of you so I'm trying here. I have a 14in Craftsman professional bandsaw and am trying to decide if I should invest in upgrading it. I can't find hardly any information on it. I'm just not sure if it is worth it or if the Carter accessories will work. Thanks-Jeff Winter
I believe it is, message Me your number

Recently saw your upgrade on your Craftsman (King Seeley) 113 bandsaw with Carter guides. I have a Craftsman 103-24280 that I bought at an estate sale, that I just recently rebuilt. Carter says they don't have an upgrade for that saw. I found a generic upper bearing guide but can't find a lower. The lower you installed looks very much like the same as what I may need. Will it work for a 103.? For now I'm using the original lower guide with cool blocks. Do you know of a lower guide (Carter or generic) that will work for this saw. Also will there be a problem running this saw in this configuration. If you get to the Cleveland area let me know. I'd you to see this saw and see what you think and if you have any suggestions.
I don’t believe it will but Carter is willing to work with anyone to try to get guides to work,
@@bandsawlife2660 Anyone to talk to at Carter. Also I have one adjustment no one seems to talk about on this saw. It is a screw with a lock nut that sets the alignment of the upper guide bar. What is the proper to set that guide bar?
Not sure I understand, perhaps a photo of the screw your talking about, my email is Alexsbandsawlife@gmail.com
did you get the photo and information I sent you
I didn’t
I just bought one of these craftsman 12 inch bandsaws in pretty good shape but wheels are out of balance do you have a vid or some advice ? need help bad thanks .......mike
You’ll laugh but put it on a piece of cardboard and tell me what happens.
@@bandsawlife2660 I don"t understand ?🤔
Place the Saw on a flat piece of cardboard and then run it and see if it doesn’t smooth out
@@bandsawlife2660 OK NOW I GET IT .....THANKS ALEX
Is it really worth it to spend $200 upgrading a $50 bandsaw?
Only if you’re going to stay under 6” thick. A new saw is $1000 minimum
Great information and video but why would I spend $200.00 for guides on a $50.00 Sears saw with a $20.00 blade?
Because $250 for a working saw is pretty reasonable these days.
