    Thank you Alex! I have used bandsaws in the past and was excited to get a Laguna 14bx in 2021. That excitement quickly wanted when I wasn't able to get the results I expected. My machine sat idle as a monument to my failure.
    Watching your video, I realized that it was because my saw was misaligned despite my best efforts with the knowledge I had at the time. Following your tutorial, I switched to Carter guides and am back in action!
    Thank you for the gift of these videos ❤️

    Alex, thanks for this video; as people said previously, it's incredibly helpful. I'm guessing you pretty much work alone on these videos and you can only have so many cameras but it would be incredibly helpful for close-ups on the adjustments on the guides for greater clarity. An angled shot from three feet away only shows so much. I'll be ordering the guides for my 14 BX in the next week or two and hope that I do it correctly. 🙂

    Very informative video. I have a similar saw and keep getting sparks so I'm thinking of that upgrade. One thing missing, perhaps, from the video is a demo of how you have to re-adjust those guides when you change blades. Do you have to fiddle with Allen wrenches under the table to release and adjust the guides? How tricky is that? - Thanks

    My questions were pertaining to your two videos on the Sears Craftsman 12” 2-speed tilt- head bandsaw. You went thru the process of adjustments of the blade, tires, bearings, etc., but no mention of the pulley/belt.
    My question was how do you determine whether or not the belt is slipping and how one would adjust same, if needed.
    My saw is bogging down just trying to saw through redwood two by stock, trying to cut very mild curves.

      @@bandsawlife2660 I figured it out. I assumed the screws were metric, but turns out they are standard 1/4 X 20 and I have that tap on hand. So good to go. I still have a problem to solve on the upper guide install. I have the Laguna LT14SE and the guide mount was drilled at 19mm. The Carter upgrade 20mm adaptor stud won't fit. I either need to get a 19mm adaptor stud, or have a local machine shop enlarge the 19mm hole on the existing guide mount to 20mm. Not sure how difficult that would be so will check with a local shop after the holiday.

    Hi Alex. I take a group of older men in woodworking class eg woodturning, simple carpentry etc (if you have ever heard of Mens Sheds that’s the idea). The guys are breaking my heart by constantly causing problems with the bandsaw (14” Record). The problems include kinking and breaking blades. Most of the work done in the shop is related to wood turning eg rounding blanks etc. There is very little resawing. I watched your video re setting up and tuning a bandsaw and it was great. In fact I hope to get all of the guys to watch it to improve their understanding of the bandsaw. I noted that in your demo you used a saw with a full set of guides to resaw but when using it for non standard cuts you switched to a saw with a simple alignment guide. Might my problems be solved if I switched out the current guide set up to the alignment guide? Any help would be great.

    I am using a 3/4" Resaw King blade on my BX. I was told by Laguna to center the entire blade on the tire. You are recommending setting the deepest part of the gullet in the center of the tire. With a 3/4" blade is that still the case? The back end of the blade will be off the tire, right? Also, would you recommend (when the tires need replacing) to use urethane tires from Carter as well. Thank You. Bill

    • @bandsawlife2660
      @bandsawlife2660  Před rokem

      Never overhand the blade off the back edge. Just back the blade up as far as possible so the back edge is even with the back edge of the wheel. A 5/8” blade is as large as you can go on your wheel. Don’t replace your tires unless they are slipping or coming off the wheel.

    Hi Alex. I'm brand-new to the Bandsaw Life - literally and figuratively! My main purpose for purchasing the Laguna is for roughing bowl blanks, and one thing I've heard is that the ceramic guides help to keep the wet dust from caking the blade, where the bearings don't. Is this true, and if so, does it matter at all in your opinion?
    Awesome demonstrations, and I'm really enjoying your content - thanks!

      The problem with ceramics is they create fiction which destroys the blade. Simply add a small amount of silicon spray to the blade and the pitch won’t build up.
