  • Federal’s new FireStick heralds a whole new way to charge muzzleloaders. It’s an encapsulated load of Hodgdon’s Triple Eight blackpowder in a waterproof plastic hull, accepts a standard 209 primer, and is removable, meaning that you no longer have to either ram out or discharge your powder after a day of hunting.

I own 40 Traditional Black powder rifles. I own over a dozen inline muzzleloaders. All my inline ml's use the 209 primer. There is no need for anymore development in inline muzzleloaders. The 209 system is perfection. This is just a waste of time and money. You either love muzzle loading or you hate it. This is a system for those that hate muzzle loading, but want to optimize on the extended hunting season. If you're trying to shoot 1 inch groups at 750 yards, then get into cartridge shooting. This extending range to ridiculous distances for muzzleloaders is like putting pig on a lipstick. It isn't needed.

Always found that round balls work very well in my CVA wolf. As long as you have a proper patch to hold the ball those things shoot great there’s no need to buy all that fancy stuff. My muzzleloader even has iron sites. I don’t need to put a scope on it because it’s a muzzleloader. It’s funny that people want a muzzleloader to perform as if it’s a cartridge rifle. To be honest, a muzzleloader that the powder charge loads from the breach but the bullet loads from the muzzle is just kind of dumb.

I think people are missing the whole point when it comes to owning and shooting a muzzleloader. Muzzleloaders are not for everybody. If you can’t read measurements or you do not understand how a muzzleloading firearm works you should not operate any firearm. Much less a muzzleloader. Basically this is I’m just going to be nice about it and say that it’s not a good concept because it’s basically a cartridge weapon without being a cartridge weapon. You load a powder cartridge from the bridge, but you load a bullet from the muzzle that just doesn’t exactly go together. I seen the fire stick cartridges in Walmart they’re 20 bucks. It cost two dollars to fire one round out of a fire stick compatible muzzleloader. Me personally, and my muzzleloader I use bullets that I make at home with loose black powder and it literally only cost a few cents to shoot one round. Basically, this is a product that is going to cost. Black powder shooters a lot of money. If you’re wanting to get a fire stick compatible muzzleloader, I’m just going to save you some grief. If you’re wanting it because you’re just curious in it don’t get it get a traditional centerfire muzzleloader if you’re wanting it because it will be easier to sheet black powder just get a modern firearm you’ll be a lot happier because obviously muzzleloading isn’t for you. They try to make a muzzleloader perform as if it’s a modern firearm. I find it very funny.

I have developed a new cartridge for muzzleloading rifles which is loaded from the muzzle but ejects itself from the barrel after use and is non-corrosive. This product sets a new standard in safety and reliability for muzzleloader ammunition in the same way shotgun shells are standardized for use in shotguns. Shotshells have a load of shot and powder which produce a safe pressure in shotguns manufactured by many different companies. The pressure produced by this cartridge can be designed to work safely in the muzzleloaders produced by the various manufacturers. It would also greatly help new muzzleloader shooters with safety, and it would also give them a product which will not destroy the barrel of their muzzleloader due to corrosive residue.

Those who say smokeless powder cannot be used in a muzzleloader may not know “Blackhorn 209” is 83% smokeless powder, based on the MSD sheet for the product. Therefore, the claim that smokeless powder cannot be used safely in a muzzleloader falls apart very quickly.
This cartridge could also be loaded with BH209 or a similar formulation in states which do not allow "smokeless" powder during muzzleloader season, in the same way the breechloading "Firestick" cartridge is now used in the "Nitrofire" muzzleloader. This would be a "Muzzlestick" cartridge which would work in thousands of other modern muzzleloaders, which cannot use the "Firestick" cartridge.
This cartridge can also be removed from inline muzzleloaders by removing the breechplug.
I am now looking for a company willing to mass produce this new cartridge for the market. I would greatly appreciate it if you would pass this information along to those you know who may be interested in this new product.

A link is found below which demonstrates this new product.

@@sethmahnken6278 but the powder isn’t loaded from the barrel it’s loaded from the breach. So technically, it’s a breach loaded weapon. Because if you look at it like this, there are three components when it comes to firing a muzzleloader, there is the primer which is often loaded at the bridge either on a nipple or a whole cut out for the primer to fit there is the powder charge and the projectile. Both the primer and the power charge or loaded from the breach, but the projectile is loaded from the muzzle which is kind of silly. So overall, this is a breach loaded black powder weapon. I don’t care if it’s legal or not legal in my state it doesn’t concern me one bit because I’m not going to buy one because I think they’re just plain dumb. It’s missing the whole point of primitive weapons. Muzzleloading isn’t for everybody. For people that would be interested in this type of weapon. Sadly, muzzleloading isn’t for them. Which I understand it. I would just hope that they would invest their money into a modern firearm and not a breech loaded black powder gun. But for the ones that do were just looking to milk a few extra weeks out of the season.

This is an absolutely terrible idea. I can’t believe that they are able to convince anyone that it is a good idea to pigeon hole themselves like this. Let’s see why don’t we not only create a “muzzleloader” that can only use one type of propellant, lets also only be able to acquire it from a manufacturer that has proven supply issues. I was disappointed when I couldn’t get Blackhorn 209 and I had to develop a Triple 7 load to hunt with out of my favorite muzzleloader, but I could do so. Without Firesticks you have a pipe with a stock and are headed to the grocery store instead of the treestand. I may not always be able to get the components I want but I can get by, anyone with a NitroFire or CVA’s new Crossfire can stay in camp and cook. No you can’t borrow my spare either. As a side note somebody please develop a competitor to Blackhorn 209 and don’t sell out to Hogdon. I don’t have an issue with Hogdon they make, well now they make, all of my favorite powders and it scares me. I really don’t like having all of my eggs in one basket.
