I agree, but Waterloo isn't exactly the second best song.
There are two things that makes this win really incredible 1. This was the first time Serbia competed independently (before thsi they competed as Serbia and Montenegro and before that as Yugislavia). I don't think a country has won Eurovision their first year competing since the competition's first year)
2. This one of only 2 songs with no English lyrics whatsoever to win in the 20 years since the rule requiring entries to sing in their native language was dropped in 2000

I loved it on the night. Years later I mentioned it to my Croatian friend and she was totally amazed that not only did I remember it , but I could sing it :) Yes, I know it was the Serbian entry.

Absolutely agree with both of the previous comments. Half my family is Serbian, and I remember when this won, I had random co-workers coming up to me gushing about this song!
They didn't understand Serbian but understood the emotion and power of the song (especially after reading the translation of the lyrics).

It was my favourite from the first time I heard the song and it's still in my all-time top 5. Gives me goosebumps everytime I hear it.
Everything about the entry was just perfect.
Very important about the song is the message and the fact that Marija Šerifović was the first open lesbian winner of the ESC.
I have no clue what the message is but I can still hear that she really means it. Great song.

One of the last songs that won for the simple reason that the song was astonishingly good. Every year after that the winners are just marketing bullshit and manipulated votes. Especially with this year's winner. Such a shame for the amazing songs and singers that took participation in this corrupt contest.

What do I think? In times when Eurovision was overtaken by good looks and stage theatrics, a not particularly attractive women in white sneakers shows up and delivers easily one of the best performances in EUV history.

I was in the hall when she won. The typical Balkan ballad. LOVE IT!. So glad this got first and not Verka's song. Not that I don't like Verka, but then it would have been another bashing on the ESC that it is only a freak show (after Lordi the preceding year).
