Eurovision is not at all like the Voice or X-factor. Its a song contest, meaning the songs are original, maximum 3 min long produced and staged for this competition specificaly. Its the biggest annual non-sporting event in the world with an audience of around 200 million (about twice of the amount of viewers for the superbowl). Its HUGE!

Molitva means prayer, and in the song she is singing about how the prayer is on her tongue, but its not the words of the real prayer its just his name(like boys name, right), and the lyric is something like this: Prayer, like embers on my lips is. Prayer instead of words just your name. Heaven knows, just like me. How many times have I repeated that heaven knows just like me. That your name is my only prayer.... Either way she is talkin about love for someone, and then after she is singing about how she can lie to everyone except to god because he knows that she actually loves that person.

I come from a Polish background and Polish and Serbian belong to the same family of languages and therefore have a lot of similarities, so I could understand enough of the lyrics to get the gist of what it's about, which made it even more powerful. So glad it won.

    Prayer
    I can’t close my eyes
    Empty bed chases dream away
    And life melts
And disappears fast, in the twinkling of an eye
    Like I’m losing my mind,
Cause I can’t even notice the real world
I still love you, I still trust you blindly
Like a lunatic, I don’t know where to go
    a new love scares me
    and days, open wounds
    I don’t count anymore
Prayer, like a fire on my lips
prayer, instead of words, your name only
    Heaven knows, like I do
    how many times I’ve repeated
heaven knows, just like I do
that your name is my only
    prayer
But I can’t lie to God
lie as long as I pray
and I lie if I say

Eurovision is the biggest annual music festival where each country in Europe sends own representative. There's a jury and people voting - and winning country becomes a host next year. Now that you've discovered Eurovision, why not react to Italian entry IL VOLO - Grande Amore live. Awesome reaction btw.

    • @frankhenneick9983
      @frankhenneick9983 Před 3 lety +3

That’s not quite correct. The Eurovision Songcontest is the biggest and longest running music competition in the world. It started in 1956 with the idea to reunite Europe after the second world war thru music. In the first Edition only six countries competed. Over the past 65 years it became bigger and bigger. On this year’s edition 39 countries are involved. All countries are members of the EBU, the European Broadcasting Union. And that’s why countries like Israel, Georgia, Aserbaidschan or even Australia are sending musicians with a original song to this contest. So, it’s not a singing contest and it’s not only for European countries! But it is the Original from every single competition show on TV!
And The song wins! Most famous winners over the years are definitely ABBA, who won with Waterloo in 1974 and Celine Dion. She won in 1988 this contest with the french song Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi for Switzerland! Also the world famous Riverdance is a product of Eurovision. Each year the country that won Eurovision the year before has to organise the Eurovision in their homecountries. And for the Grqnd Final you also need an Intervall Act that comes after all contestants performed and the complicated voting system. And for the Eurovision Songcontest in Dublin 1994, they wanted a small show about this traditional Irish step dance. So they created this 7 minute piece call Riverdance, that became a global hit.
By the way: its Eurovision Time at the moment. Tonight it’s The second semi final and on Saturday the grand final. U can watch the all the entires 3,5 hours per show on peacock for free in the United States!

@@AmyLeeForever you wrote: each country in Europe sends a representative. Which was never the case. Luxembourg, Andora, Liechtenstein, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Hungary don’t compete or never did live the Vatican City. Every year there are some European countries that didn’t compete, because it’s too expensive for some countries. Then countries like Israel, Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Georgia and Armenia are Asien countries. Australia is its Continent itself. And it was never a music festival, it was from The start on a competition Show. A Grand Prix. A music festival has never a price to win. These are the differences, so the mistakes you made. 😘

Eurovision Song Contest is a giant rabbit hole to jump. AmyLee Forever already told you about the concept, but here's some more info. The contest has been held every year (except last year, but even then every country had their songs chosen) since 1956 to bring Europe together via music. There have been many internationally big names participating, like Celine Dion and Abba and the contest has introduced many many great songs - although also an insane amount of crap. 😅 But it's a very entertaining event, you should definitely check out more. For example Lordi - Hard Rock Halleluja which won in 2006 (Finland's only winner). The clip you just saw was from 2007 contest in Helsinki. I got to see the rehearsals then and even that was awesome. Some day I will go to see the grand final. 😊 Fun fact: even Nightwish participated the Finnish national competition in 2000, but didn't make it to the main contest although they were viewers' favourite by a landslide. The jury didn't like them then.

Contest shows like AGT have their own versions in many countries, the Eurovision is something very different (and much, much older!) It's more like the Olympics of pop song, partially a giant party where nobody must take themselves seriously, partially a display of amazing talent (that the rest of the world will often ignore to mock the campier, fun aspect ^^;), partially a huuuuge semi-political money affair (le sigh). But overall it's what the people watching make of it, and that's a big annual rendez-vous where Israel and Australia become temporary honorary Europeans! \m/

Oh man, you are in for a ride, Eurovision has been around for a very long time, as some comments have explained already. It's all original songs, cannot be longer than 3 minutes (by the rules) and usually results in a beautiful stage show. I recommend you check out the winner from 2014 next (czcams.com/video/QRUIava4WRM/video.html&ab_channel=EurovisionSongContest) and the previously mentioned winner of 2006. Thank you for your wonderful reaction ❤

There's an English version of this song so you can understand the lyrics. Just type in YT Destiny - Maria Serifovic.
If you liked that then be sure to check out Lane Moje (Serbia 2004) and Oro (Serbia 2008). Lane Moje is for many people the best song in the history of the Eurovision Song Contest.

So nobody in the comments has explained yet, but Eurovision is basically a contest for most European countries, and Serbia won that year - to get away with the confusion here (so it wasn't "in Serbia", it was won by Serbian representative, over bigger countries like Russia, UK, Germany, France, etc...)

Can you do a reaction video to the Common Linnets with Calm After The Storm at Eurovision 2014? They were a Dutch band that came in second. It's a country ballad kind of song. With back then, Ilse Delange and Waylon in it. Would highly appreciate it 🙏 but yes, Molitva was a great winner in 2007.

Eurovision songcontest is a big show with about 42 countries participating, it started in 1956. The Eurovision Song Contest's founding stemmed from a desire to promote cooperation between European countries in the years following the Second World War through cross-border television broadcasts, which gave rise to the founding of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in 1950.[ you can find all video's on You-Tube from all the contests, very interesting to see how simple it was in the beginning and now with a big show. Justin Timberlake and Madonna did a special act some years ago.

Words mean: your name is my only prayer.... prayer is the name of the song. Words are even more powerful then her voice, if that's even possible.

Even though some people explained it- Eurovision is a song contest with juries and everyone, the songs have to be original, and most times written specifically for Eurovision. The participants are countries within Europe, except if other countries get invited. The countries host a competition of their own, and the winner gets sent to participate. The winning country hosts the event the following year and I'm pretty sure people can vote from home for different participants. Eurovision is HUGE, it gets broadcasted live on TV and on CZcams, however many Americans don't know what it is because the only way to watch it is on CZcams, and even then you probably have to use a vpn or some other software like that.
