    Airline crew for over 2 decades here:
    Etiquette is that middle seat gets the armrests.
    Window seat has one armrest and the window.
    Aisle seat has outside arm rest and aisle access.

      I was once booked on an economy class (USA: coach?) flight from Gothenburg to London. It was an early morning flight on Ascension Day = public holiday in Sweden/business day in England. I was asked if I'd give up my seat, presumably for a full-fare paying business traveller. I was in no hurry to get to London and so I asked what was in it for me. I was refunded most of the fare I'd paid and then flown business class to Brussels where I had to wait an hour or two in the luxurious business lounge before being flown to England. It was great.

    Yes, Trevor! I totally feel you. By chance, I'm having this lesson now. I too resent it when I'm not informed for my consent to any change. But I'm starting to realise this is what they mean by ego. It's not the brash kind but it's still related...like the song goes, "you can't always get what you want". I'm trying to be stoic about it now.

      How is she being inconsiderate or selfish? She was put in the middle; she didn't ask for everyone, including herself, to be made uncomfortable. The sensible thing to do would be to put larger people next to smaller ones, including other people's children. Two issues down with one solution.

      @@injunsun if you know you won’t fit in a middle seat comfortably without impacting others comfort the considerate thing is to forwarn the airline and possibly book 2 seats.
      The inconsiderate thing is to barge on the plane and demand an aisle seat from someone who may have booked that for a very good reason. I once had to travel with an UTI. It was purgatory even with an aisle seat, that I had precooked.

  • @spacecaptain9188
    @spacecaptain9188 Před 2 lety +20

    I've had this happen. My seat wasn't available. They had empty seats, but they were upgraded seats, so they didn't want to give one to me. They made me wait until the last second, telling me I might be bumped to another plane, instead of just giving me the available empty seat. After everyone else was boarded, they finally let me have one of the empty seats. I swear, airlines are not motivated to retain customers, because they know they don't really have any competition.
