    There's a reason the likes of Zidane and Xavi rate him so highly. United knew what they had, England didn't. The English media and England managers were so wrapped up in the whole Gerrard/Lampard thing that they let a genuine maestro of football slip through their fingers.

      Agreed, he made so much happen on that pitch, never mind statistics, he knew how to open up the whole pitch in front of him, bring players into the game with a pass and take opponents out of the game with a pass. His use of space on the pitch is jaw dropping.

      Agree with every word, because he never put himself out there the way becks and co. Did everyone forgets just how good he was, but ask Zidane, figo, xavi, this man man was never meant to be born English, he is way to technical to be a English player even still in this day and age! Always remember reading an article about christiano Ronaldo at carrington trying to hit this telegraph pole with a ball and had about hundred attempts and scholesy came along one time put the ball down and just like the true maestro he his hit it and walked away without a word

      @@mattyjay3920I can remember watching the build up to a match at the Sapporo dome in Japan. Players were warming up. Scholes and I think Nicky butt were standing in the center circle having a chat and looking up. Scholes got a ball, absolutely smashed it directly up in the air out of his hands. They both stood there for about six seconds staring upwards then looked at each other and shook their heads.
      Obviously they'd wondered if you could hit the dome with a ball. How crisply he struck the ball with such power nearly hitting himself in the face to get it to fly directly up with no side spin. Unreal power and technique.

    I’ve watched United played since 95 and at first I thought he was so boring to watch. Until I started playing myself competitively later then I realized how little I know about the game because of how different I viewed Scholes later on. He’s the most consistent and efficient midfielder in my opinion. His situation awareness and game reading was total world class and his passing was so lethal to opponents. His technique wasn’t flashy but his touches, passing, and understanding of the game made him one of the best of all time.

    • @shellykangten6100
      @shellykangten6100 Před 7 měsíci +6

      Yeah same here. I started watching since 2005 and Supported Man Utd.
      I never really enjoyed his style of play.. back then there was Stevie Gerard, Frank Lampard, Kaka, Fabregas, Iniesta, Xavi, Seedorf, Pirlo etc.
      Man Utd had Him and Carrick. I wanted them to sign any of those players.
      I even wished he retired because I wanted them to have flashy midfielders like Kaka & Iniesta. But when I understood more about the game and particularly more about the midfield, I knew they wouldn’t be able to replace him.
      I watched him during important games and can confidently say he is the player you want the ball to be with all the time. He is like a safe lock. Running the game like he doesn’t know what pressure is.
      To be honest Man Utd squad wasn’t that great compared to their rivals at that time. Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal had insane roosters. European rivals like Real, Barca, Milan, Inter, Juventus, Bayern were Legendary.
      But because of Players like Roy Keane and Scholes they were able to keep up with those teams.
      When Zidane, Xavi and Co said all those things about him.. they weren’t overexgerating it. They played against him, they know it. Man Utd midfield is nonexistent since he left..

    He had it all, the vision to play a pass at any distance, his touch was inesta like, understood the game wonderfully, not to mention he scored some absolute beauties too!
    A UTD Legend and a player we currently lack desperately.

    What he did was immeasurable. He didn't so much as drive with the ball or get the same amount of goals or assists as the likes of Gerrard or Lampard which is why a lot people may forget how good he was, wrongfully I'd add, but what a true master of his craft he was.

    • @brianduru3753
      @brianduru3753 Před 7 měsíci +1

      Um, did you watch Scholes play at all?
      He absolutely got a lot of goals and assists earlier in his career. Before he started playing deeper layer in his career (so from the late 2000s onward), he was easily the best goalscoring midfield player at the turn of the century.

    • @football_forever.1
      @football_forever.1 Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@brianduru3753 yes I'm aware of that, I meant in comparisons to the likes of Lampard with regards to the whole Gerrard, Lampard Scholes debate. Its easy to point to Lampards goals or Gerrards leadership as how Scholes played 'generally' wasn't as quantifiable and therefore goes a miss sometimes.

      That's partly because whole united sqaud was class..it was whole team contributing..such was the talent. Probably that's why you may not find too many goals or assists for a single player. I mean CR7 had so many goals per match for Real Madrid but not for united as Rooney, Tevez were also there. Same with Giggs, Scholes..

    This is EXACTLY why I say Scholes> KDB. KDB usually tries to find the killer pass, meaning he can be neutralised via the offside trap or marking his teammates. Scholes on the other hand, if his teammates are marked, he'll bang one from 30 yards, if he is isolated, he can find the killer pass, if you try and press him, he'll either beat you with a drop of the shoulder, or one-two it past you, and this is also why teams like Arsenal and Chelsea setup their game plans to stop Paul Scholes....

    The best midfielder and passer of the ball we have ever seen, simple as that. Every now and then someone is born to do the most amazing things, Scholes is one of them. When asked what he wanted people to remember him by he just said 'I don't care'. That just about sums him up as a footballer and person. No drama, pure genius.
