Technically Zidane is irrefutably superior to Gerrard and any other midfielder/attacking midfielder in football history except for Maradona and Cruyff. His opinion, my opinion and anyone else's opinion will not change this fact. Although Gerrard is a monster, too!

@@danielsan2142 It isn't as cut and dried as that. Zidane did not have the pace and defensive side to his game that Gerrard had, but Zidane had greater flair on the ball. You never see Zidane tackling in any montages, like you do with Gerrard in this video. People never give as much credit to defensive skills as they do attacking flair. All three of the examples you gave were attacking midfielders only. Meanwhile, when Liverpool desperately needed someone to fill in at right back during extra time in Istanbul:

They are both greats of the game, with both having skills that the other couldn't achieve.
Steven Gerard was a generational player. Our grandads has Bobby Charlton, our dads had George best and we had Steven Gerrard.
Excelent job. Even the youngsters know Gerrard could hit the ball with power and accuracy, but many people don't know he was also fast, strong, capable of brilliant skills, dribbling, inteligent touch. Steven Gerrard was a beast. Legendary all round midfielder.

he was really special, Lampard and scholes were great in one position, played always with best teammates but gerrard played many years with a average liverpool team and played many positions, on each position he was world class thats the different between lampard and scholes or zidane

Gerrard was to Liverpool what Bryan Robson was to Man Utd. What astounds me was how he was able to play with so many brilliant strikers (Owen, Torres, Suarez, Rooney with England) and be telepathic with them while playing so many different positions (deep lying, holding, attacking,central midfield and winger, and even started out as a right back)

Facts. KDB can't defend. Hes a good attacking midfielder, but as an all around midfielder, Gerrard can tackle for days and shoot 500 feet rockets while leading the team with the captain armband. KDB is too quiet.

One of the great disappointments during Gerrard's generation... was the way English national team managers and coaches "mis-used" Gerrard. Say what you want about Arsene Wenger, but he was unique in that, when he had a midfielder who could pass well AND run all day (i.e. Emmanuel Petit, Patrick Viera), Arsenal were almost unbeatable. They would often start the play from their own side of the field, often running TOWARDS the goalie or defender with the ball, take it, look long, if not there, go wide,... and then go after the ball and be in position to get the pass back to move it forward, or to the other side of the field. Wenger wanted Petit or Viera to start the play/make most of the passes. A midfielder like that has to be gifted with the ball and have incredible endurance. Gerrard would have been PERFECT in that role on the English national team. Instead, he was moved all over the place, and when in midfield, often stayed on his half of the middle (opposite Lampard) never really finding a "home" like he was with Liverpool. Its criminal that a team that had Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, with Owen/Rooney up front) couldn't achieve more than they did.

People debate about who was better Gerrard, Lampard or Scholes even Keane is thrown into the conversation but for me Gerrard had all the other players best attributes rolled into one. He was an absolute beast of a footballer and for me the most complete player in Premier League history. Just a pity he didn't get the medal his career deserved but just wasn't meant to be unfortunately.
Yes, he has everything + leadership on top of it. He could drag a mid table team the entire time to a trophy. Lampard and Scholes only stayed on top teams. Theres a reasn why after they all retired, Stevie G is still talked about much more than the other 2.

Scholes only has passing. Gerrard also has passing, AND striking, goals, physicality, heading, tackling, defending, grit, versatility, skills, all THAT with LEADERSHIP and INSPIRATION. I dont even know why its a debate. Its only a debate because Gerrard stays true to his hometown and plays for a mid-table Liverpool while Scholes collect free trophies playing for a world class team even without him.

Scholes, Lamps or StevieG, which one is the best? All good but I reckon, get 100 clips from each player and compare. I think Gerrard could/would do more of what the other two show than the other way round. There are certainly more things that Gerrard was able to do and did than Scholes could do of Gerrard etc.
