I hope this video helped you make better consumer decisions. Thanks for all your support! - Věda a technologie
What did you think of the video? What products should I review next? Let me know!
definitely low-profile coolers, sff is quite popular this days
but i'm, personally, more interested in all top-flow models, like be quiet BK020 since it advertised as 220W tdp
Another vote for low-profile coolers and even passive coolers (here's hoping that Noctua passive cooler moves from prototype to product). I'd also love to see reviews of after-market GPU coolers.
Love your vids. Feel very unbiased.
One thing you might consider adding to your CPU cooler tests is the extent to which the various coolers cool VRM's. Admittedly unless you are running extreme over clocking or a very power hungry chip on a mediocre mother board, its rarely an issue, but some coolers run a lot of air over VRMS because of fan over hang etc where some don't cool them at all.
Love all your videos! Probably in terms of coolers would like to see Low Profile or Smaller Tower Coolers
If you could test low end fans it would be great. Thanks for the upload!
That was clearly presented, full of data, yet readily understandable. Well done sir!
i love that you put the information in the description. much appreciated!
Right on!!!! You're back! Thank you!
Wow. This video must have taken hell itself to do. Massive respect. Couldn't ask for more. Subbed ofcourse.
the man, the myth, the legend, is back
3:46 RAM height clearance. Awesome! Critical info that no other videos have shown. well done!
Really appreciate you going the extra mile with the testing improvements. Awesome!
Great unbiased evidence based reviews. Thanks for all the hard work!
I had no doubts, almost 4 years with my NH-D15. 0 problems, still quiet
I don’t normally comment on or like a video but appreciate the timestamps in the description man 👍
Thanks HS, very good content and carefully testing with details on the process and procedure. The graphite pad was a welcomed addition to the testing method.
Based on your videos end up buying the beQuiet Dark Rock 4, and thank heavens, it's blissfully quiet.
Keep up the good work!
Great video, I am really glad you uploaded since it's been 4 months from your last video. I hope everything is all right with you and your loved ones especially with the whole pandemic situation. Thanks for the uploads I really like them, keep it up.
I'm gonna be honest. I'm not really interested in the coolers after seeing them but given the amount of work you put into the testing and all you definitely deserve a thumbs up. Great video. Thank you
one thing to mention, noctua coolers come with a top of the line thermal paste as well. it is not something you could demonstrate in your video for consistent comparison's sake. but it amounts to the end-user experience a lot.
@BrocoliColonist Why though? It comes with the cooler and it's the same if not better than arctic mx-4 tubes. And sure kryonaut might be a bit better but it's like 20$ for a fucking tube for maybe 1-3 degrees better lol.
i would love to see this in aio.
BrocoliColonist why would you use mx-4 if kryonaut is better? the noctua paste is pretty ok also so why even change to mx-4 and waste 5-10 bucks on a tube if you dont have one at home? i think for how long it stays on the cpu/cooler just use the best one available thats not liquid metal because it chemically reacts with some coolers and slowly with every ihs. right now the best paste should be kryonaut and kpx from kingpin i read some articles and quite some videos on pastes and kpx is supposedly even better than cryonaut but just google or search on youtube on kpx vs kryonaut i think luumi (extreme overclocker) has some great videos on the topic. if you want to try liquid metal, conductonaut is the best one out there by far (far in thermal paste land at least with 1-2°C advantage over others)
Paddydapro jesus christ chill man, its all good thermal paste anyway. If people have their own paste preference they might have their own personal reason, no need to push too much
@@kevinsmith5547 A bit better? Kryonaut is a good 50-60% better from a thermal conductivity standpoint and has a price tag to match. However, that doesn't translate to meaningful temperature differences unless you crank the heat load to like 1000+W. You'll see the difference then. nt-h1 and nt-h2 are top tier compounds regardless. Definitely a bit better than MX-4. My laptop tests have consistently confirmed this.
Thank you for breaking down each cooler and, going over very important consumer specs. :)
Nice job; meticulously detailed; time-stampted for convenience, and quite thorough. Well done, sir!
Purchased a NH-D15S yesterday. Still going to watch the video for results. Thanks for the post.
You did well young padawan.
Good decision. You won't regret it!!
Good choice buddy - doubt you'll be disappointed - take a shifty at mine on pc partpicker - I converted it to black Chromax anyway and it works a treat in my tiny itx build which has my CPU delidded & overclocked at 4.8GHz all core - stays damn quiet and cools awesomely : uk.pcpartpicker.com/b/PbCbt6
If space is an issue, then I can see why people would buy the S, but to me it is a waste of money when you can get the real D15 for the same price and get much better performance.
@@charlieodom9107 But they are the same size, all they have done is shifted the finstack to make room for that 1st PCIe slot. They are also similarly priced so I don't understand why you consider it a waste of money.
i have no regrets in subscribing to this channel
So much effort for this video it hasn't gone unnoticed! Great video thanks
I very much like how you plot dBA to Temperature. Most usefull presentation for quiet pc fans (pun).
Except for the accuracy of the data. His data it's way off from any other reputable tester.
I have a nh d15 and i layed my hands on a macho rt, r1 and be quiet dark rock pro 4, and i can tell you, his numbers are BS.
R1, LGMRT and nh d15 are within 1-2°C of each other at any load. And dark rock pro, starts to fall behind when you push over 150w.
@@TTks124 It looks pretty consistent to me.
@@RH-xm5uk
It is.. since I saw a video of NH-D15 vs NH-D15s compared by a different reviewer. NH-D15S falls short just by a few degrees compared to the original DH-15. The all black chrome is more than double the price of the original. That's price gouging IMO. I will get the brown one, since my PC is always underneath my desk with a solid opaque case. Don't care for looks, it's performance I want.
my fav channel. i wish your videos was 1h long. so fun to watch. like national geographic documentary.
I really enjoy your videos and find them incredibly informative and interesting! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos !
This video is absolutely incredible. Well done and thank you.
I was wondering where you went! Your videos are super helpful! 👍
Hell yeah, time to enjoy this video with coffee.
I really love your content!
Thanks!
Thanks a lot for your in depth approach, I appreciate it a lot
Fantastic work. Answered all the wuestions i ever had about these. Thanks!
Quality video, man! You deserve way more subs for this kind of work.
A great and thorough review of these air coolers. I think you can do a great job of reviewing PSU's. I'll admit, the PSU is probably one of the components I think least about in my build besides its wattage and modularity. Great job once again.
Thanks for making this video. Very helpful and to the point!
Thanks for all the info, seriously helped me alot to decide what cooler to choose. You earned a subscriber and deserve many more
Excellent and informative video, thank you so much for all the effort that must have gone into this!
EXCELLENT video! The comeback of air cooling made this video extremely relevant & useful, and gets to the real-world data points without drowning you in minutiae like Steve Burke's Gamer's Nexus - Gotta love GN though!
But this video is complete, updated, and I think the Go-to video for air cooling connoisseurs.
Seriously high quality content. I love this shit.
Great job my man!
Great video. Helped me to choose the NH-D15 chromax.black
Great video as always waiting for your next video
Very nice work, amazing attention to every detail with a nice presentation. Thank you. Subscribed!
i really appreciate your effort
Can't wait to see your water cooler roundup. Most online reviews often compare the cooler under evaluation to products that are not in their price class, thus making the comparison rather useless (I suppose these reviewers are on the take).
We need more unbiased results like the ones you're providing. I'm using an old ThermalRight Ultra Extreme rev A from 2007 on my 9900KF... Debating between a D15 Chromax Black or a 360 AIO... Cooler topping out at 180w and would like to be able to go to ~250w.
You are really good at what you are doing!
Very well done! My first view of your channel, and now a subscriber.
NH-D15 Chromax Black. Looks awesome. Performs awesome. Bonus: no more worrying about pump failure. I can see it working and don’t need to keep stats on my screen. Love this black diamond
wow great video, thank you so much for all that great hard work you did, saved me allot of time and money, so I went withe the NOCTUA NH-D15,...thanks again.
NH-D15 it is, thank you, great objective and factual review.
You are good at charts.
Nice video. I cannot find these coolers near me for the life of me. I happened to spot a Scythe Fuma 2 and I have been using it for almost a week now. I love it. It has improved my temps. It has cooled it for almost 6c less than the stock cooler Wraith Prism. I love it so far! Also, it was easy to install. Taking apart my computer is a pain in the butt tho.
Excellent review!
Nice video, thanks for sharing. Hope Noctua gives you an NH-D16 for you to compare (when it gets closer to release).
Nice roundup, pretty much what I expected, btw...I have 4 Noctuas in my 4 computers 1x D15 3xNH D12 but with push/pull A12x25 fans, Im all about performance. RGB is poison in my eyes :)
Your voice is so good that i didnt notice that we are done with test procedure
excellent test video!
You have an Awesome video. With a lot of information. With a great variety of teck. Reviewed against one another. You sir have a new subscriber. Keep up the great work..
Excellent work, Sir. I'm delighted with my NH-D15 (non-black)
Hey bro do you still like the cooler! Do you regret not getting an AIO? Thanks.
@@AlvlUpSavedMyLife No problems or complaints here. I would defo buy again. I have an h100i on a 7700k build from 2017 & the D15 on a 9900k. D15 just wins all round. If you're trying to make a boutique, fish-tank build to wow everybody then this ain't for you but if you wanna cool a cpu at max & never even hear it the D15 ftw. I retro fit mine to an existing build & it was a tricky to connect headers because of sausage fingers & fans in the top of the case but if you were scratch building it would be no problem (this thing is huge, like really huge)
Fantastic stuff, thanks a lot
love ur vids
Excellent. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming. You may want to revise your charting into something a little bit clearer and more accurate though.
I love my NH-D15 Chomax.Black!
you can always swap the fan with a smaller 120mm one to make room works in small cases too
They do fit if you offset the fan a bit, provided your case offers enough space for that. If your case is too small for that, you can always change to a 120mm fan.
It fits perfectly above my R3600 and 4 GSKILL RGB sticks. Yes, maybe a little offset above but no big deal. My case is the Meshify C which also allows for this extra room.
Great tip for removing the letters 👍🏻
Yes that's thats true depending on the case, I could not offset the fan even with a 120mm fan. I could fit a 120mm fan to the left of the heatsink though.
Welcome back Hardware Scientist!!!
Yep, I made the right choice a few weeks ago. Love my NH-D15 Chromax.Black. A blessing for my 2600K I'm still rocking (In my HAF X case). Now it's waiting for 4th gen Ryzen.
Ive got a haf x as well! I had a coolermaster a70 in there but i need a new one cause i dont think its compatible with x570 mobos.
Hey bro do you still like the cooler! Do you regret not getting an AIO? Thanks.
@@AlvlUpSavedMyLife I do. I don't regret it at all, however.... The situation has changed since I bought it. I was going to use it in my new pc build in a new case, but I realized afterwards that the cooler will not match how I want my new pc to look. It is after all HUGE and it will look a bit odd together with my gpu which will be mounted vertically (I'm not sure if will even fit).
So now I'll actually use an AIO in my new build. The NH-D15 is still amazing tho and it'll stay in my old pc, which will still be in use.
Excellent job.
I've been kinda stuck deciding between the NH-U12A and NH-D15S, and this video helped me _immensely._ I'll definitely get an NH-D15S since the second fan on the regular NH-D15 does not fit above my RAM.
It's interesting that the D15S runs slightly cooler than the U12A, but what really sealed the deal for me is that it's _much_ quieter at the same performance. Looking like a 2 to 3 decibel difference at times which is enough to take it from "audible, but fine" to "quite loud, actually".
A note for those in the same situation as me: If you ever do get smaller RAM or a bigger case, then according to the Noctua website, you can buy a separate 140mm or even a 120mm fan for the NH-D15S, mount it at the front, and get the same performance as the regular NH-D15.
I love how the U12A is outperforming relatively huge coolers like the RT and R1, really shows how good Noctua stuff is.
just got one the other day. it makes me all fuzzy inside. so heavy, so durable, so quiet, i love it.
Many thanks for this work
I just requested a d15 for raw power dissipation on electronic equipment
Very good, thanks much!
Best helpfull video. It makes sence and choise. Thump up :)
Thanks for the video 🤞🏻 will be buying be quiet 💥
nice explaination video, keep it up !!
lots of work thanks
This video is the gold standard
The noctua d15 in black was a very easy choice for my 3900x. The black is sleek and sexy, at idle it sits at 30-32c and while gaming at 56c!
Hey thanks for the video. I was just talking about the coil whine on my stock CPU fan getting too loud for my liking.
Awesome review.. thank you. That will help me make a decision on what I want to buy. Subscribed as well..
Good and thorough. Like 219!
Just what I needed
great video, maybe do a more recent version of the best budget coolers?
Thanks for all the videos i was unsure of what to buy and i ended up getting a nh u12s black it cools great and it is very quiet and it looks amazing in my rig
Hey bro do you still like the cooler! Do you regret not getting an AIO? Thanks.
@@AlvlUpSavedMyLife I still love this cooler. I added another fan to it and I never go over 60C and my idles are always around 30C even with my 9900k. I don’t really trust AIOs because I don’t want risk it leaking on all my parts.
There's something you're missing when it comes to looks.
When it comes to air cooling, regardless of what someone with no idea of what they're looking at thinks, anyone who does will see a noctua and recognise it for what it is: the best air cooler on the market.
And so it's distinctive looks are actually a plus.
Very good review, that was fantastic.
Just got the u12a, only thing im concerned is, some other reviews (from one of the huge reviewing sites) shows a 15-20C difference between the D15 and the u12a, even at ~200watt, which according to your review doesn't make any sense.. I'm worried whether or not it can handle a constant 200watt from a 10900k, but it seems like it can I guess
Great video as to the tests and efficiency of the heatsink and provided fans. Though if your recommending them to people I feel you have to take into account price and noise more. The Le Grand Macho Rt for example is tied for cheapest, tied for best compatibility, 2nd or 3rd quietest at max speed, voted basically blast it and not be to hot for the sound. But its not in your winning recommendations. I do not even own this cool though I want one lol. Good video either way just thoughts on including more weight to price, compatibility and noise as those are usually the issues most builders will pay attention to more.
Great review thank you, I wonder how the Fuma 2 will stack up to your current selection, or maybe there will be a new video about the 2021 coolers?
ive seen enough - subscribed
Great video Superb graphs, what about AIO water cooling performance compared to these ?
THX Bud. I was looking 4 an air cooler, 4 my 3900X. I settled on da NH-D15 chromax.black. I also subscribed and used u'r amazon link, hope dat helps. 😎✌
A CABA . Makes sure u use the correct plastic spacers. I should have read the instructions the first time. I put on the white ones and couldn’t cool much if at all like 4.0 on all 16 cores(3700x) but being at 92 c. Then I put on the right one and now 4.35 on all 16 at only 87c max
Hey bro do you still like the cooler! Do you regret not getting an AIO? Thanks.
great vid
you are freaking awesome!!!
Good vid.. thanks!
Ahh man, if I didn't care for aesthetics at all, I would opt for the Noctua chromax black (thank you Noctua for finally listening). But I still gotta rock with the Dark Rock Pro 4! Looks and performs great!
Hi Hardware Scientist - enjoyed your latest review here & passed comment on your previous one about my selection of the NH-D15S being your top cooler then. Pity Noctua haven't yet extended the all black to this model - perhaps they will at some point. Either way, as you probably saw from my build, it had to fit in a pretty small itx case, the Fractal Design Core 500, and while I've seen builds in this case with the full NH-D15 inside some issues like bent cooler fins or hitting the RAM sticks ensue, which kind of limits it a bit. As previously mentioned I added optional black Chromax covers anyway and swapped to black Noctua fans giving arguably better aesthetics even than the NH-D15 Chromax that won here. As the cooling performance between the two is pretty negligible (yet I'm toying with the idea of adding in a slim black Noctua 140mm or another Prolimatech to eek the most from it), because of the compatibility benefits, in my case scenario I'd definitely still sit with the D-15s over your winner. For anyone who hasn't seen my build I'll post its links here (I've added a few extra pics) uk.pcpartpicker.com/b/PbCbt6 & builds.gg/builds/black-magic-tardis-25292 . Once again - thanks for your very fine & informative review.
Loved the video and the testing methodology, but where's the Scythe Fuma 2 ? Looks like an interesting cooler (double tower, 6 pipes, counter spinning fans, with the front one being thinner)
I would pick the Dark Rock Pro, this thing is pure magic. It might not have the extrem performance but it's awlays silent even at full load, and it's the most elegant looking big air cooler in my opinion. The intallation isn't that difficult if you take off the whole top cover with Allen key.
great video
Your hardwork are seen in video
I will probably buy the NH-D15S, seems decent enough. I want something quiet yet can cool a decent amount. What do you guys think? Is that a good option for a future Ryzen 4000 8 core build?
Just sold my Noctua NH-D15S because I'm moving away from custom build PCs, but the performance of that thing was consistently impressive during the years I've owned it.
BTW it appears in your tests you used one fan with the regular D15S but two fans with the black chroma edition, they should perform identically with the same setup
NH-U12A is absolutely a cooling beast with two of the fans on it. and is much smaller and have more RAM clearance than most other coolers
I'd love to see all these coolers compared again but replace the stock fans and see how they all perform when using the same fans.
I would like to see this test with all the coolers using the Arctic fan that came in first in your fan tests, especially the Be Quiet since its fans came in near last in those tests.
Goodjob well done
