Thanks for the great video aimed at the average guy with no special Polaris tools. My tech said the same thing, use a screwdriver with a rag to protect the clutch. The zerk fitting just unscrews if in the way or you can jack up the machine letting the a arm drop. Zerk fittings have been called jerk fittings by mechanics for years, just slang I guess.

If you're a trained Polaris tech, like I am, why would you risk damage to the secondary clutch that is hundreds of dollars, when you could use the special tool that your dealership has already paid for???
Seems like an unnecessary risk that could end up costing the service department hundreds of dollars.

Because last time In I got hit for 1100 and this looks super simple to replace, just be careful.

@@michaelapple2753 next time try a wooden wedge, either cut one from a 2x4 or buy wooden window & door set up wedges. Just push one up in the opening just like yer covered screwdriver, which I would never use BTW.

I know you caught some crap over the jerk fitting and I'm sure being a trained Polaris service tech it was just slip, lol! I would like to know how do you know where not to pry is it marked? If not why in the hell does a secondary clutch have weak spots???

looks like the weak spots are the two holes

Take & loosen the bolt. It spreads, the belt drops down.

Well just testing this on a 2017 Ranger 1000. In a garage not on a lift I find that the "ease" of getting the cover over the Zerk fitting is not as depicted. You must remove the hose from the air box that goes to the carb to increase the amount that you can lift the cover to clear the zerk fitting. When you put the ranger on the lift the suspension drops down and the Zerk fitting rotates down. NOT true when on the floor. Remove the hose from the air box end. That said, if I have to do this in the field, I'm gonna die...

I took a 3/8" open end wrench and simply removed the zerk. Cover comes right off.
