Trash to Track Episode 41. Rivarossi Big Boy.

- Hello and welcome to episode 41 of Trash to Track.
In this episode we take a look at a Rivarossi Big Boy Union Pacific Steam Loco.
This loco is very complex, and i’ll admit that i almost gave up on trying to get this beast of a loco back into service.
I’m still not 100% happy with the outcome, so stay tuned for a part 2, when i have the enthusiasm to tackle this loco again!

Oi, great job on restoring this UP 4015 Rivarossi Big Boy! Both you and SMT Mainline have inspired me to try and restore older model engines to complement my modern fleet! I'm in the hunt for a Southern Pacific AC12 Cab Forward (4-8-8-2) steam engine. Hopefully you can iron out the shakes with this engine in the future!
That the motor ran right off and all the gears drovers rods ran w out diff is huge. With that the rest is comparitvly, ez.

Great to see a model of such an iconic & historic locomotive returned to working order. Big Boys have held a fascination for me since is was a small boy.
Unfortunately they didn't have a particularly long in-service life, as I recall.
Your cosmetic repairs were also very impressive.

Hi Dan, I have one of these engines from the 1970s. Unfortunately the chassis has suffered from mazak rot and basically crumbled. Never been able to source a new chassis for it. So it is just sat in its case. Nice to see you get your going again.
exellent vid to watch you def got some patients what a beast i think my patience would have gone at your first attempt looking forward to the next session thanks for sharing.

Ciao, greetings from Italy. Looking at your work I noticed that you have not checked and cleaned the connecting rods and as strange as it may seem to you the problem can come from there. It could be dirt between the screws or connecting rods or even that a screw has been tightened too much or replaced with a different one or even that a washer is missing. You mentioned nicotine and dirt, there's certainly some there too. It is certainly not an engine problem and... please note that Rivarossi made in Como cannot be modified. Would you put a Rolls Royce engine in a Ferrari? 😂😂 Rivarossi simply needs to be restored. I hope you will put back its original engine :-)

All camera trickery! I bought the Big Boy in December and Gems or Junk was filmed then. The restoration was ongoing for about 3 weeks on & off! So i uploaded both the play in the same week.
Does Revell sell the smoke box separately or was this just a one thing time thing?
I contacted them and i had to purchase the spare parts.
